In February and March 2014, Russia invaded the Crimean Peninsula, part of Ukraine, and then annexed it. This took place in the relative power vacuum immediately following the Revolution of Dignity and was the first act of the wider Russo-Ukrainian War.
The events in Kyiv that ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych on 22 February 2014 sparked pro-Russian demonstrations as of 23 February against the incoming Ukrainian government. At the same time Russian president Vladimir Putin discussed Ukrainian events with security service chiefs remarking that "we must start working on returning Crimea to Russia". On 27 February, Russian troops seized strategic sites across Crimea, followed by the installation of the pro-Russian Aksyonov government in Crimea, the Crimean status referendum, and the declaration of Crimea's independence on 16 March 2014. Although Russia initially claimed their military was not involved in the events, Putin later admitted that troops were deployed to "stand behind Crimea's self-defence forces". Russia formally incorporated Crimea on 18 March 2014. Following the annexation, Russia escalated its military presence on the peninsula and made threats to solidify the new status quo on the ground.
Ukraine and many other countries condemned the annexation and consider it to be a violation of international law and Russian agreements safeguarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The annexation led to the other members of the G8 suspending Russia from the group and introducing sanctions. The United Nations General Assembly also rejected the referendum and annexation, adopting a resolution affirming the "territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders", and referring to the Russian action as a "temporary occupation".
The Russian government opposes the "annexation" label, with Putin defending the referendum as complying with the principle of the self-determination of peoples.
The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People has come under the scrutiny of the Russian Federal Security Service, which reportedly took control of the building where the Mejlis meets and searched it on 16 September 2014. Crimean Tatar media said FSB officers also searched the office of the Avdet newspaper, which is based inside the Mejlis building. Several members of the Mejlis were also reportedly subjected to FSB searches at their homes. Several Crimean Tatar opposition figures were banned from entering Crimea for five years. Since Russia annexed Crimea several Crimean Tatars have disappeared or have been found dead after being reported missing

This song is about persecution, which was monstrous. The Soviet government carried out the deportation of an entire people, which today is called genocide due to the monstrous conditions and the huge mortality rate among those repressed. We have a day of remembrance for the victims of the Crimean Tatar people.
You did a great job on the song, I didn't like the original, but your edit is nice to listen to. Thank you so much.
This song is in Russian, there are also songs in the Crimean Tatar language. I don’t understand their lyrics, but I remember the song from the Eurovision Song Contest Jamala - 1944, it’s about the events that I wrote above.

The deportation of the Crimean Tatars began because of their cooperation with Germany during the war, they were considered traitors so that they could atone for their guilt before the Soviet people, they were given a new place of residence where they had to develop agriculture and industry, as a result, many remained alive, some then returned back to Crimea, and some remained in the place of resettlement.

Другое дело крымские татары, народ составлял 54 000 человек из которых примерно 50 000 сотрудничали в той или иной степени с врагом. Разумеется современные крымские татары не виноваты, но они являются потомками предателей
