@@moodybluefarmstead3448 I was actually looking into that, thank you I think I’ll look further into it.
It's a large turnover for ALL clinical positions 😅😅 pick your poison lol
Exactly
Yep nurses and all people are just wore out
True dat! You're right about that
In California an experienced surgical tech with deep expertise in the more challenging specialties, willing to leave LA and SF can make $40-60+ an hour in 2023. Travelers are making even more. If you're looking at that number and thinking I want that job, it's one of if not the hardest job in the hospital physically. You deal with vomit, shit, piss, blood, viruses and disease, burnt out surgeons who think they're God and poor hospital administration. Not to mention working long, long hours (on call you can be working 24 hours+ straight, nobody to help you, no breaks). Also not all techs are equal so if you don't get good at the job and can only scrub the basic cases, they'll pay you a lot less than someone say who can scrub orthopedics and hearts. To the newbies, LEARN YOUR ANATOMY
Thanks I really appreciate this comment !
I second that!! or you could and will get thrown into a case that you have never scrubbed before and are clueless, like total knees or total hips, hemi arthroplasties...it's nothing but go go go all day and take all the verbal abuse from shitty surgeons!! hell, I could write a damn book about this! good luck naive ones!!
I second this!! I know first hand! you are exactly on point!!!
@moodybluefarmstead3448 yeah my fren have a learning disability and he told me doctors was calling him names in saying he to slow for this job
@@kekeorinc2952 I believe that! I've heard doctors say horrific things about their patients while under anesthesia!
So, yesterday was my last day as a student surgical tech and let me tell you, she is not lying. You really don't realize how stressful this path is. We had to do 9 hour shifts 5 days a week during our clinical rotation. It was like a real job (though most employed techs do 12hr shifts) and it is not easy. You have to get good at it or it (healthcare in general) will eat you alive. Learn the procedures (because some doctors won't tell you what instrument they need next and some can't look up from the surgical site to see what you have in your hand or what you have on your mayo stand), learn anatomy, learn instruments (more than just the general instruments in the book), and know aseptic technique. Get good shoes, get compression socks, and stretch (because lead aprons, full case carts, and heavy instrument trays are going to really put work on your back). But if you get into this and you see that this job is not for you, don't be afraid to admit that and find something that works for you. It does not have to be SPD or being a nurse. It can be something else in the medical field. If I had to say I would prefer something that has to do with diagnostics or even dental.

I even asked just to have me as a volunteer and no one is calling back. I tried surgical centre too they need 2 years of OR experience 😅. What I don’t understand how can I get experience if I recently graduated and the only experience I have is my clinical experience and I have recommendation letter from the OR manger/Nurse and my program director.
Best thing to do is to find out a hospital’s hiring events and for the next one, try to go to multiple hospitals you will get on the spot interviews. I felt this, It really is hard in FL as a new grad!!
Apply anyway. It's also super weird that you can't find anything entry level. Maybe try looking at a different state? I know my state has a shit ton of entry level ST jobs. That being said, I wouldn't expect you to be able to get a CSFA job with zero experience anywhere. There's a reason people say to wait a year to two years before getting the CSFA certification.
Cna spd tech im actually both and I’m in a Surg Tech program at the moment 😂😂

It would be nice if people werent required to go to school, but get hands on training and then take an exam/training material. Cst and spd make about the same so I just studied for my bachelors in hca and maintained my CRCST cert for job stability.
Its definitely not for everybody, med surg field is not for the weak lol. We are all standing and busy all day long.
CSTs are needed nationwide!
I came out of HS with a ST cert and worked two years (18-20) before I quit to become an EMT. Then became a medic to get that patient care experience. My experience was alright since I worked in Renal and some General Surgery.
It was the fonky old a$$ nurses that helped me decide. The docs were cool because I was going to college for eventually med school.
Mind you, this was in the late 80s/early 90s.
Best thing I did to maintain composure and not get fired was to befriend the docs no matter their personality-networked with other STs at surrounding hospitals and went to the meetings. They liked that I was interested in the department business and went out with respect from my peers.

There were times I wished I could go back to being a CNA 😂 This girl I know is a surgical tech...definitely more stressful then being a CNA.
