I’ll always share a special connection with mamamoo. I got to meet them in person in 2015 before they became big. I got to talk to each one of them personally (which cemented my love for them and for my bias moonbyul). My dad was with me, and it’s bittersweet now because he really loved their early jazzier sound as my dad was a jazz musician. Hwasa was his favorite member. He admired her naturally jazzy vocal tone so much. He passed in 2018 and one of my last memories with him is us watching a mamamoo concert together and the smile he had on his face was everything to me. Cancer took him from me, but I’ll forever be grateful to mamamoo for giving me something to share with my father. While it makes me sad to think about sometimes, it also brings me a feeling of love and joy.

Well, I think they have great crowd control because they used to do the college festival circuit for several years before they got super famous. Every year there are festivals held at colleges/universities and Mamamoo used to perform at every festival to get more exposure and gain fans so they had plenty of practice in front of live audiences.
Agree. Doing three or four shows a day in their early years allowed them to become very comfortable on stage, hone their delivery, and perfect their timing. Like all great artists, they are constantly changing their act and keeping it fresh. Also, they are confident enough to mess with each other while performing. It keeps them from getting bored and lazy.
So to give you a little bit of context, Immortal songs is a korean show where artists perform and kind of compete against each other for the first spot in one episode. Each episode has a guest veteran artist whose songs are usually being performed by the competing artists in that episode. Mamamoo appeared multiple times on this show in the beginning of their comebacks until it kind of became a tradition of theirs. The medley they’re singing here is basically snippets of some of their past performances in the show. I still think that you should watch each performance as a whole to really grasp the greatness of what they can do
A nice simple reaction to some beautiful singing. While I enjoy the more in-depth reactions, it is also nice to sometimes just vibe out. They are always amazing live because they know exactly how to back each other up. On Immortal Songs, they also do a good job of both honoring the original and making their performance unique. The songs in order are Backwoods, Love Story of a Girl, Way to Sampo, You in My Fading Memory, Wonderful Confession, and Flying Into the Night Sky. There are still more songs they did on Immortal Songs 2 that aren't featured here like Delilah. In the past, they have also done some other medleys like hit songs of the year or boy group songs. My favorite Hwasa quote is "If I don't fit today's beauty standards, I'll become a new, different standard". And this is something she absolutely did, as she didn't fit the traditional Korean beauty standard, got shit for it, but carved her own path when it comes to beauty standards and open up others to make their own standard of beauty.
I cry everytime i watch their concert. Their early time was not big like this. They were ignored. There was no recognition. But now they are one of top legends in Korea. To me, their vocals are number 1 beside IU and Ailee. No other girl groups have the vocal perfection like them. And i am very happy they are where they are now. Such amazing women.
Mamamoo have recognition in Korea, but they are not legends. in Korea, legends are groups from the big 3 labels like Blackpink, Twice, etc. and kpop for groups has changed now and dance is more important than vocals, so Mamamoo are surpassed even from 4th gen groups. their comeback in 2021 didn't go that well and weren't nominated in award shows. not even for vocal performance. that's not a legend. a legend would be nominated and win. IU beat both Rose and Lisa in Best Female Artist while she doesn't have massive international fanbase like they do. this is a legend. Heize's album in 2021 got 5 songs in top 10 charts. most groups don't get another song besides the title track, unless it's BTS or Blackpink. this is a legend. in worldwide fan's choice in MAMA 2021 Mamamoo dropped from top 10 in 2020 to not even in top 20.

It was the immortal songs show that they became known and famous..they won quite few time son that show. All the performances on that show were top tier and even more impressive then this. But I've seen several of their live shows (like Four Colours, Four Seasons), and they really are _phenomenal._ Like you said, as well as their impeccable vocals, they really know how to work the crowd... and I don't know if it's an RBW thing (Onewe certainly follow the pattern), but they also _really_ give you your money's worth; the aforementioned 4C4S ran over _four hours,_ and every bit of it is gold.

yes you make a point MAMAMOO is also the best group to interacte with the crowd ,they're so good at it . not many group can do that even amoung the most popular . they're also very out of control and crackhead so they're unpredictable .
I like that you mentioned their interactions with fans! I got to go to their S/S Fall Seasons Concert in 2019 (they performed this medley!!! it happened like 2 hours into their concert and they still hit everything perfectly, it was so insane) and they're really such generous performers, they create so many little moments with fans and you get this sense of love and eagerness that they have to give their fans a good show and make them happy... imo there will never be a group that can match them in putting on a show like this. It's great to hear what you said about Hwasa and her confidence and beauty. From the beginning she has gotten a lot of hate about her looks. She was told by an evaluator that while she had a unique voice, she was fat and unattractive. There were people who tried to get RBW to get her out of the group because they felt she didn't fit the idol image. One of the guide videos has her talking about this. She said after the comment about her being fat and unattractive, she went home and cried all night. The next day she woke up and told herself, if she doesn't fit the current standards of beauty, she will become her own standard.

I love this performance, but it is from one of Mamamoo's live shows. It's a medley of songs from their 14 appearances on Immortal Songs since 2015. It has the feel of a victory lap, and it is more relaxed. In my opinion, the original Immortal Songs appearances are much better, because it is a competition show. The members of Mamamoo are very competitive, and they absolutely shine when the pressure is on. For example, if you watch their first Immortal Songs win, a performance of "Backwoods" in Episode 223, the energy they produce onstage is overwhelming. It would be cool to see you react to a few of those.
I get what you're saying, but I prefer this performance to the Immortal Songs performances, even while agreeing that they are more relaxed here. I think they are performing for the audience instead of the judges, and that's better, IMO.

You get it, which is nice to see. By the by, you and I belong to a small club of males who love Mamamoo because it's reported that easily 90% of their fan base is female. I guess a lot of men just can't deal with women who refuse to adhere to a certain stereo type, that push the envelope on what's normal, that don't stick to one genre, that are goofy, silly, strong, loyal, warm. Just the fact that you have a band where the members appreciate each other, support each other on and off stage, respect each other and care for each other and it isn't an act or facade... that alone tells you a lot about them. On a side note, that live band was bad-ass... and that drummer is a beast.

Unfortunately, I've never seen them live in person, and at this point, I doubt I'm likely to. But I've seen several of their live shows (like Four Colours, Four Seasons), and they really are _phenomenal._ Like you said, as well as their impeccable vocals, they really know how to work the crowd... and I don't know if it's an RBW thing (Onewe certainly follow the pattern), but they also _really_ give you your money's worth; the aforementioned 4C4S ran over _four hours,_ and every bit of it is gold.

yes you make a point MAMAMOO is also the best group to interacte with the crowd ,they're so good at it . not many group can do that even amoung the most popular . they're also very out of control and crackhead so they're unpredictable .
I like that you mentioned their interactions with fans! I got to go to their S/S Fall Seasons Concert in 2019 (they performed this medley!!! it happened like 2 hours into their concert and they still hit everything perfectly, it was so insane) and they're really such generous performers, they create so many little moments with fans and you get this sense of love and eagerness that they have to give their fans a good show and make them happy... imo there will never be a group that can match them in putting on a show like this. Talent and charisma and playfulness off the charts.

It's great to hear what you said about Hwasa and her confidence and beauty. From the beginning she has gotten a lot of hate about her looks. She was told by an evaluator that while she had a unique voice, she was fat and unattractive. There were people who tried to get RBW to get her out of the group because they felt she didn't fit the idol image. One of the guide videos has her talking about this. She said after the comment about her being fat and unattractive, she went home and cried all night. The next day she woke up and told herself, if she doesn't fit the current standards of beauty, she will become her own standard.

I love this performance, but it is from one of Mamamoo's live shows. It's a medley of songs from their 14 appearances on Immortal Songs since 2015. It has the feel of a victory lap, and it is more relaxed. In my opinion, the original Immortal Songs appearances are much better, because it is a competition show. The members of Mamamoo are very competitive, and they absolutely shine when the pressure is on. For example, if you watch their first Immortal Songs win, a performance of "Backwoods" in Episode 223, the energy they produce onstage is overwhelming. It would be cool to see you react to a few of those.
I get what you're saying, but I prefer this performance to the Immortal Songs performances, even while agreeing that they are more relaxed here. I think they are performing for the audience instead of the judges, and that's better, IMO.

By the by, you and I belong to a small club of males who love Mamamoo because it's reported that easily 90% of their fan base is female.
I guess a lot of men just can't deal with women who refuse to adhere to a certain stereo type, that push the envelope on what's normal, that don't stick to one genre, that are goofy, silly, strong, loyal, warm.
Just the fact that you have a band where the members appreciate each other, support each other on and off stage, respect each other and care for each other and it isn't an act or facade... that alone tells you a lot about them.
On a side note, that live band was bad-ass... and that drummer is a beast.
