  • Some call it deep sea fishing but either way get asked a lot what set ups to use for rockfish and lingcod. So in this Video I go over all the tips and techniques that I use for them. What lures to use for rockfish is touches as well.
    We go over the fishing knots that I use to catch rockfish, and there are links on how to tie those knots specifically. The best for leader connection in my experience has been the alberto or RP knot some call it. No matter what you call it, its tied the same.
    Best rod and reels that are needed to get the job accomplished.
    These rockcod techniques will work everywhere in California and pretty much any location from Mexico to Alaska for both Rockfish and Lingcod. Just keep on moving from spot to spot till you locate the fish.

    I've got a boat up close to the Oregon border and I fish a ugly stick tiger, a tr100 with 60# braid to a swivel and then 5' of 60# mono with a 2 to 4 oz led head and plastic scampi, also with a big shrimp fly half way up the leader with a chunk of bait on it. I can barely break off the 60# mono, that's how I like it. I use a 100# set up for dropping heavier weights and plastics or going for pacific halibut.

    What is the best color braid for bottom fishing

    • @CckfNet
      @CckfNet  5 лет назад

      Doesnt matter, your leader is gonna be the only thing that the fish would even see. usually the water depth is gonna make it so color would not matter

      I deckhanded out of bodega & continue to fish lings every yr. Scents - for lings really arent necessary. Live bait is best sand dabs some party boats catch 1st then go fishing with them, ask around these cant be beat. Next Id rate mackeral if you happen upon a school, catch them with white fly rigs then skin hok em and drop em to the bottom w a 8-12 oz torpedo wt, stout hks and 50 lb test minimum ldr, next down the list of top baits, octopus that fish cough up - get em on your hk and back down. Next I take squid heads (frozen) hk em between the eyes and get 1 on ea fly on a 2 white fly rig - never fails and catches other bottom fish too (tastier than blacks and blues) after that a gd 12 oz jighead with a paddle or grubtail body with brown and red or orange in it or rootbeer but the briwn orange or brown red kill em. Any live or frozen bait you use drag it through the teeth (scratch) of a ling already caught, this always gets bit. Hope this helps. As to the mackerel, rigged 1 we caught that day hk thru mouth and a stout treble stinger in belly area (made b4 trip just in case) gave it to my buddies 14 yr old son (1st time saltwater fishing) caught a 35 lb ling!

    Howdy...do you always use a snap swivel to attach your tackle on a dropper loop?

    • @CckfNet
      @CckfNet  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, mainly due to the fact that it prevents some twist and keeps the lings teeth off the line some.

    • @jeremymclenithan441
      @jeremymclenithan441 6 лет назад

      @@CckfNet cool... I'm trying this out tomorrow at Leff. I put a bit of a twist on it though. I started with a hook strung through with some 80lb nylon coated cable with a bead to stop the hook going through the squid. The cable goes through the squid to a bearing swivel halfway tucked into the body. Thanks for the idea!

    All the videos I've seen online none of them complete the process of tying the leader line to the main line can you make a video on that? Do you use a uni knot or do you use a snap swivel?

    • @FishNinjaY
      @FishNinjaY 6 лет назад

      lots of videos out there for braid to mono or braid to fluoro.. Check out FG knot, or RP (Royal Polaris) knot, but many still just do double-uni

  • @roypalomino1329
    @roypalomino1329 6 лет назад +1

    I noticed in the video that you were using snap swivels on your dropper Loops is that just because of the line you were using to make the video or do you prefer to use snap swivels?

    • @CckfNet
      @CckfNet  5 лет назад

      Yes the rod phenix is a great combo for casting smaller swimbaits, but you can even go with a lighter rod if you would like as well.

    Which rod did u pair the lexa 400 with?
    Do u have any videos on fishing on jetty in so cal? Newport Beach/seal beach/LB/los alamitos..
    Would a lexa 400 work with a 9ft medium rod?

    • @CckfNet
      @CckfNet  6 лет назад

      Evz K i would say the lexa 400 would be fine on that rod. I have it paired with a phenix black diamond inshore rod. Dont have any jetty fishing videos from down that way.

    Hey, im looking for a daiwa lexa 300 high capacity, there is different version of the lexa 300,
    Should i order lexa 300 WN or lexa 300 CC?

    • @CckfNet
      @CckfNet  6 лет назад

      have not used the 300wn but if your really wanting more line capacity than go either with a 400 or put FINS 40G braid. It is really thin for its line rating. 65lb test is like 8lb test diameter.

      yes, rockfish and lingcod live on the structure, I have found not all structure holds the same quality or quantity of fish, and some days the bite is just not on but getting out on the water is the key.

      Rocky Hale all depends in the species, groundfish which include rockfish and lingcod you are limited to 2 hooks. Ocean other then a couple other species you can use as many as you want. Sand dab gannion are up to 10 hooks. Freshwater is limited to 3 hooks however.
