I love her. I don’t know about gaited horses (I do NRHA stuff) but she is really good minded and wants to please you. Sweet sweet mare! She will be fun when she gets broke!!
Just like humans, we all need a job, a labor of love. Horses and dogs need this also. It boosts their confidence so much and, they act like, they are so proud!
Boy Tim, this big pinto filly/mare who is likely gaited is really smart. She likes to mentally challenged & given time to figure things out for herself! Nice horse. I see LEO has arrived to supervise!😊
Ya, I'm pretty sure she's a Walker, (head, hocks, brain). I'd be more interested in your theory that 2-3 is optimal. My daughter's mare was not even halter broke at four, when we bought her (for fourteen year old girl) and my daughter trained her totally by herself. Took her to a breed show the next year and came home with several blues. She lived to age thirty and was a perfect horse every minute of it. That "mental aspect" is what we call the duckling stage. A little duckling will follow you anywhere; to some degree that's also true with horses, but some of my best horses were not saddled until age three to four.
Watched this afternoon and saw the cat trying to play with the girth so I could see it being a problem but loving the work with new horse interesting to sse her come along Thank you 😊 ❤
Oh she is clever. 💖 I love watching these sessions, and I love Tim's incredibly awesome insights into what is behind the training. And really, the results speak volumes 💖
Sadly I missed the livestream, as digging ragwort. Real nice filly. She was learning how to think her way out of a bind. That cat is taking over your show🤣
Spotted saddle horse? They run big, were developed from pinto and standardbred and other gaited breeds; they often have a convex facial profile. They amble and can't trot. IDK. It is what google taught me
Hi Tim I want to reiterate that ground work is necessary to educate the horse as when you're trail riding and small tree vines get wrapped around or between the legs they have been use to have items around the legs. Good educational resource thanks Tim ❤
This was a great session for me, I learned a few things. I would love to bring my name to you, especially watching the Hanoverian video about giving a different job.
Great video. We have just started ground driving/long lining it is not as easy as you make it look. I have gotten tangled up in the lines and my horse has too. He just looks and says It is just mom and she has a few things to work on. He is used to me dropping things and being not as coordi nated as I once was.
If I understood correctly you won't take a horse older than three to start under saddle. I'm curious about the difference between 2-3 vs older. Is it that a younger horse is in the perfect window of time (especially mentally ). I know you said you need to watch the behavior of the horse for guidance. I'm just wondering what is different when starting a horse older than three. Thanks for everything you do and keeping you and your wife in my thoughts. ❤
You said you won’t start a horse which is four or older. Can you explain why? I’m guessing it’s related to getting set in their ways and never really relaxing to being ridden. What about restarts? Do you turn them away if they are too old? EDITED TO ADD: Guess you hit on this after I typed my question. Could you go into issues seen in late starters? My wife’s horse had been started and supposedly ridden a several years. Then spent years as a pasture ornament. We’ve had him with local trainers who seemed to like him and rode him well - however between lack of time and poor horsemanship on our part he reverts fairly quickly. He rides OKish, but seems like I have to retrain him to take the bit every time I try. He’s also quite disrespectful lunging which is making me increasingly disinclined to mount up. I’m far too old to deal with disrespect astride! Good news is I’m usually learning something. From better ground work to better bridling and recognizing when he’s getting worked up to buck to turning him out of it. Though fifteen year old horse would be easier, but seems to actually make things more difficult. Oh yeah - writing from Lakewood Village, north of Dallas Texas. Also I have no idea on horse breed.
The issues you are describing is why I will not start them after 3. Lots of people will comment theirs was started at 5 and is fine but have terrible behaved horses and are ok with it. They will always be that way and owners that accept that behavior don't know any better.
A dog chained to a dog house with food and water is the same as a horse never ridden. But, teach that dog or horse something and oh the places they will go! The things they will see, and the joy that will fill their life. Why would you deny a horse that joy?
I love her. I don’t know about gaited horses (I do NRHA stuff) but she is really good minded and wants to please you. Sweet sweet mare! She will be fun when she gets broke!!
The way she moves and uses her back end and hinds make me think walking horse
Also, her good level mind! They are generally hard to rattle.

Normally, I'm not a fan of pinto, but this horse is altogether beautiful! 😍
Love from PA!
She is a big 2 yr old. She seems willing. I really liked this ground driving with her and how nice she responded

She has a lovely personality.

Why won’t you start a horse older then 3 years old ?i am from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
I explained that inches video
If I understood correctly it seems that the mental state of an older horse tends to lead to problems with teaching them.
