I don’t think Tom cares if they imitate his style. That’s a huge compliment. The problem is when these same people comment trash behind his back at the same time. He’s so genuine and authentic that it baffles him a bit. He’s not like them. That’s part of the reason why his following is what it is. His extreme work ethic and talent is also a huge part of his success.
Finally …getting away from the music industry in “beast mode” PUSHING big breasted “chickens”, big cars, big guns, big drugs, big jewelry, big houses, and big headaches from big bullet holes.

I believe he lived in Crenshaw, not Compton, not that there's much difference. I lived in Inglewood in the early 80s and it was the same back then. We were the only white people for blocks and blocks it was mostly black, and some Mexican. But we never had any problems. They all looked after us.

Was there political rap before Tom? Yes, there was Publiv Enemy for example. However, all the past political rap was actually more cultural, and fighting a cause.. The things Tom raps about and his approach is actually political and he's the first to do it.

It awards verification based on numbers of albums and singles sold through retail markets, they represent the music industry and only count what they feel should be counted. You touched on something very significant. Battles are a main staple of original hip-hop. There would be beefs, then some back and forth, and when it was settled, the artists could still show respect to each other and move on. These days, there is no mutual respect. It has become a method where one tries to completly cancle another... About the same has happened to the genre itself. It used to be about fighting a struggle and how to become a stronger better person. We don't hear much of that anymore. We hear about ways to live life that is damaging the listeners.
Your story of your girlfriend needing to come to you from Compton made me laugh and reminded me of a story my friend told me of his friend dropping him off near his sisters in a bad area of town and how she said I’m not slowing down - jump and roll if you want to get out haha
