About the United States Marine Corps:
The Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. Within every Marine is the willingness to engage and determination to defeat any adversary, and it is this fighting spirit that allows us to fight and win our Nation’s battles.
The mission of the United States Marine Corps is made up of three promises: We make Marines, we win our Nation’s battles, and we develop quality citizens prepared to fight and win battles.
You don’t join the Marines-you become one, forged in the crucible of training aboard our recruit depots on Parris Island, South Carolina, and in San Diego, California, or through the dedication required of officer candidates at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. Beyond the physical requirements, aspiring Marines must prove they have the honor, courage, and commitment to face and defeat any obstacle.
Today, more than 180,000 enlisted Marines and 23,000 Marine Officers serve in active duty or reserve forces on bases and in communities around the world, proudly carrying with them the core values of the Marine Corps.

Years ago had a flat tire on way back to Ohio from east coast. A guy calls his buddy if he can help an Ohio guy. Sure thing. I drive on to his property and see the Super Fi decal on his car. Thank God, I thought, a US Marine will help me. And he didn't stop until he did. I offered him some cash for his hard work. He just smiled, politely declined, and said, "I did it for the sake of the good deed."
Bless these men and women of our armed forces, and a special shout out to our Marines, the pride of our nation.

As the son of a WWII Okinawa Marine, I’d have to agree with the statement, “the Marine Corps is different”, but in a good way. He taught me everything I needed to know & stood up for his men afterwards, getting only 1-2 hours sleep after a 16 hour shift. I miss him everyday, and didn’t realize his impact on me till many years later? Luv you Dad, RIP!

Becoming a Marine was definitely one of the greatest moments of my life. The sense of joy and relief during the Warriors Breakfast is second to none. The realization that you really made it through something with people you end up becoming brothers with at that time is special. That hike to the parade deck took everything outta me, but when we got there, every second of boot camp was worth it. I would 100% do it again if I could go back in time knowing all that I know now.

Our Instructors were making us Honor Platoon. We knew it. I was going to get a meritorious promotion for being a squad leader. I knew it. Once we were done with The Reaper the weather was cold rain. Our Warrior's Breakfast would be served in the chow hall. As such we had to shower first.
In the squad bay our Senior says he knows about the rumors. You eat all you want and they smoke you afterwards till you puke.
He promised us that we would be allowed to enjoy our meal because we earned it.
I ate 5 steaks and an unknown amount of eggs and potatoes.

Being Honor Platoon was a nice achievement for me. Being meritoriously promoted for acting as 1st Squad Leader since Week 2 was a very proud moment for me. You know HP gets to lead in the graduation motivation run. When I saw my family I could see how proud they were too.
They knew already. My name had an asterisk next to it in the program.
I still talk to some of my boot brothers.
I went on to invade Iraq with The First Team as a Son of Chesty [1/7] and then visit for 2 more extended vacations. I saw some out in the sandbox of ancient wars. T'was good and merry in a bad place. I talk to them still upon the innernets.
I would do it again. I'd go back to boot but I need the same guys and same instructors.

As a retired Seabee Chief with 23 years active duty, my fondest memories were with the Corps. The one thing I admire the most about the Corps is the brotherhood outside of the Corps. While former navy doesn’t care about each other, the Corps is totally different. It’s common to see Marines taking care of each other outside active duty. The other services especially the navy couldn’t care less. Try walking into a navy recruiting office as a retired chief and you’re lucky to get a hello. Walk into a Marine Corps recruiting office and you’ll get immediately greeted with “How can I help you!!!” My son saw How I was treated hence why he went in the Corps. Semper Fi Marines 👊🏻

Daughter of a Marine, here. My daddy had his flaws, like any human being, but there were things in his daily behavior that always showed that he was a Marine. If he saw a car broken down on the road, especially if it was an older woman or young woman and kids wide eyed and scared in the rainy night, Daddy was NOT one of the dozens that just passed by. He always stopped and helped get them on their way again. We were late for things plenty of times but we were ok with that. If he came upon a funeral procession, he absolutely showed respect...even if the sun was blazing and he had some place to be. If he found an injured deer dying in the road( sadly, not uncommon where we lived), he stopped and put it out of its misery. He saluted the flag and instructed us on flag ettiquette and the proper way to fold it. If one of us kids had a broken tricycle, he treated getting it fixed as seriously as he took keeping the farm equipment in excellent repair. ALL his tools, machinery and vehicles were good quality and IMMACULATELY maintained, just like his guns were. You could see yourself in the shine on his dress shoes. We had to answer him with "Sir!" or "Yes, sir!"...when I was a toddler, I actually thought that "SirYesSir!" was his Christian name(he was a Sgt) and was surprised to learn otherwise. You Marine kids out there know exactly what I am talking about.

Always loved Marines. Best jokes and always had a way to cheer you up when you're down.

My uncle was 1st Marine Division at Okinawa. My father was UDT 4 in WW2. He was at Saipan, Guam, Leyte and Okinawa. I served with the 82nd Airborne. They are ALL different. They are all fighters, but unlike the Froggies and the Marines who face their enemies, paratroopers are often surrounded by the enemy.

Proud mother of one Marine son age 26, and two Navy sons ages 29 and 23. All were active at the same time. Navy sons are still serving. Then, I have a Marine brother who served in Vietnam.

My surrogate grandfather was a Marine. He fought in the Korean War. He was one of their cooks. I learned from him plenty of things (there's this one story where I was boasting about winning a hundred yard race track and field in Junior High School. I told him how I kept looking at my feet and the feet of my opponent during the race.
He said to me: boy, never mind who you are racing against! Focus on the goal and the finish line..")
    I do miss him sometimes.
I was denied by the Marines several times due to past mistakes. I am too old now to join the Marines. But, if ever there was a draft I'd be first in line.

You can tell who put this together. Each branch has it's mission and the mission dictates who goes first. I have major Respect for each. Everything he said each branch trains for.

    Marine since 1967!
Quote from President Reagan: "Many people go through life not knowing if they made a difference.
The MARINES don't have that problem."

1st Fire Team! Sgt deployed the 2nd and the 3rd Fire Team to flank the enemy and his reaction force to join our Cpl atop the Hill dominating the area.
Overwhelming firepower he called down on them and turned them into a leaderless rabble.
    OUTSTANDING!
CAPTURED ARMAMENTS enabled us to dig in to repel all boarders.

I will be 75 in 3 months. Served in the Marines 70-76. I have lived out in the country for over 20 yrs. now and there's not a lot of neighbors around to "socialize" with. But there's a few of us guys that get together occasionally just to have a few beers and shoot the bull. Of course, there's quite a bit of joking around that goes with that. Some have also served in the military (Army or Navy) and occasionally tell stories or kid around about their active duty years. It may be my imagination, but it seems that none of those jokes are directed in my direction. Instead, it's more of a tone of respect. Not only due to the fact that I was in the Marines, but also due to the fact that I was the only one that was in the military during a war. There's certain things you just cannot joke about. Semper Fi to all my brothers and sisters, past, present, and future.
