  • Japanese Black Pine from the "Grow It" Bonsai Seed Kit (from gift republic) has now grown enough to have the trunk wired and shaped.
It looks funky, by this is a long term project. I also pruned it this year to start building its structure.
It was started form seed in early 2020.

Hi Ian, good to see this JBP doing well. I'm always surprised at how long you can leave pines before repotting them!

@@BackGardenBonsai that was supposed to say “looking forward to another good year, Brother”.
I shouldn’t be commenting when taking care of my 1 year old…hehe

Go big on the next repot...let the leader run with a single bud to thicken up that trunk. My little pines are a year behind yours...

Pretty astounding growth for one year. I thought Japanese Black Pine were warmer weather trees, but yours has responded wonderfully to bud pruning. What are this year's plans. More wiring or let run?

Cheers Sue, yeah i think i would like more heat/sun, but it seems happy enough. plan is more of the same. a little prune, a little leave it alone to grow ... but i will be repotting it

Dang, our grow it seeds started about the same time but mine look feeble. Ended up with 2 black pines and 3 sequoias. Sadly the two bristlecones were ete during year two. I just wired the two pines at New Years.
