What an unusually nice man, to make a movie and credit the people who saved his life, then visit the grave and family as promised, and mentioning his name so credit him and show his lifetime appreciation! YOU are a REAL QUALITY HUMAN BEING! At age 60, I was never in the military but have met alot of unappreciative entitled takers, and you are just the opposite. Your family is blessed to have you!!!!! It was an honor to see your movie. Again, you are a special person and the 2 men who helped you would have LOVED knowing they saved such a great man! How you have been in your life, and used that time is also a gesture of appreciation. Please feel good about yourself- you deserve to!
This movie had a different angle on soldiers and war than most Hollywood blockbusters. Although I was sometimes irritated by his honesty, in second thought, I admire the courage it took to actually publish this un-heroic story. Its authenticity shows that not every soldier is equally committed or devoted to aggressive action. They're people, often conscripted or obligated participants. If you're a train engineer, with no military heritage to prepare you for that kind of Hell, and then pilot an aircraft miles above the blood and guts and brutal horrors down on the battlefield, then you very well might not know how to look another young person in the eye and shoot on sight. If you feel morally devoted and focused on your wife and children, and all you want is to get out of there and go home to enjoy them again, no wonder you can look at these people - temporarily assigned by politicians as your enemy - and wonder if they're married with kids. Wonder if they hate the war as badly as you do. Plead with them to just put down your weapons and both go home to your families. Thank you for an honest portrayal of soldiers as human beings rather than some imaginary stereotype of heroic fighting machines.
Even if he is a coward but he always gives credit to both of them, the farmer and especially the American soldier,, he is always saying thank you,, always grateful for saving his life ❤.. God bless
How many of you are combat veterans? I bet not many of you are. Many drafted boys were never cut out for the horrors of war. Many were like this Brit. Too scared to fight. They’d freeze up and get killed and take several others with them in the process. They shouldn’t have been there in the first place. A terrible reality but that’s what you have to live with in war. USMC Nam Vet. 1969
A tale of courage and cowardice. The courageous GI and the Dutch farmer were men of courage. The British soldier was a coward in every sense of the word. Near the end of the movie, the Englishman tells the grave of the GI that he gave him the courage to fight and he didn't think he could. Well, he did not. When faced with an unavoidable situation, he shot the German soldier, but not out of courage; out of fear. There is never anything admirable about a coward.
what a stupid comment...You think you are a hero? You think there are real heros and cowards? some that appear brave are just unimaginative, stupid or really believe they've been kissed on the dick by the good fairy...There is an old saying..he who fights and runs away lives to fight another day...apart from that..the cemeteries are full of dead heros
So many harsh comments? You really don't know how you will react in moments like these! War is never nice, people in the war ere not nice. The story was very upsetting!
The Best of Men? Yes, but this Brit must have been the worst of Soldiers! And the dog tags were for his son, not his gravestone! And the letter was for his wife, as he promised to deliver! O.M.G.!
@brentsmith2475, nah, man. I was in combat. Why would I watch this "just to feel normal"? I don't get you. Why do you not feel normal? I'll tell you why I don't feel normal. I'm on the autism spectrum, with ADHD. I had to learn to fight just to survive as a kid. Is that what you're getting at? Then maybe yes, these war films feel more normal than romance or "chick flicks". 🇺🇲
Both of my Grandfathers served in WWII. One guarding German POWs in Kentucky and One in Patton’s 8th Armored Division in Europe(The Thundering Herd). After the war they both became Milkmen for competing companies. Kinda of a weird Romeo & Juliet American Style story for my parents😂😂😂
It's a pity to be a Beta in chaotic times. All the while it's the weak men who help to bring about those chaotic times... By the way, not finding a family of a soldier when you have his dog-tags (serial number) is absolutely impossible... unless you don't try at all.
I’ll never understand why when soldiers kill someone and either low on ammo or don’t even have a gun why don’t they keep taking ammo n guns from the guys they kill? ( I know the guys might/probably don’t have the same ammo they need but take everything they have,knifes/grenades, pistol’s,ammo, water, med kits,socks,food,whatever.. I don’t get it 🤔
Y didnt they change uniforms, 1st thing i would have done when gotten the oppurtunity, plus take weapons and ammo, n take much provisions as they could
9:32 in the movie... 'Can't go further. 2 motors "Albermale bombers" with upper gun turret as to carry paratroopers, themselves equipped qith a Mk II british "barber plate" helmet? CGI is human thinking, pull yourselves together, get a truthfull historical advisor, may be next time ? :D

With the Soldiers dying breath he asked that the letter go to his wife and the dog tags to his son, and it wasn’t honored.
