On this channel, I share #slowfashion and #sustainablefashion tips that center around how to #shopyourcloset, and restyling pieces you already own. I also spotlight brands that I believe in every now and then. I believe in #creativityoverconsumption, and that we all have the power to be conscious consumers.
Slow fashion looks different for everyone, and I'm so grateful you share this space with me!

My parents went to Italy when I was young, a few years before my mother died. She came back with beautiful sunglasses that she wore for the rest of her life, they are in so many pictures from her final years. She told me she'd spent a fortune on them. I asked why, and she put her chin up with dignity and said the man who sold them to her made her feel beautiful.
We had very little money but we'd gotten an inheritance. I'm so glad she spent the money that way.
What a lovely memory of her!
..."the man who sold them to her made her feel beautiful." I don't know why that remark made my eyes well up thinking of my mother and sisters, whom I miss so much! May we all have a moment or two when we feel impossibly gorgeous, and may the memories of such days not soon fade,
I absolutely love this story. It made my day.
What a cherished memory 😊
That’s a great story. You should write about your experience with your mom. I think it would be an interesting book.😊
Thanks for including photos of women of all ages! That's very inspiring 😊
I love your philosophy of "We're not saving lives here!"☺ Makes styling a lot more fun!
I’d love to see more of how hair is incorporated in Italian fashion, with headbands, scarfs, natural, clips, sunglasses, etc.
"We're not saving lives here!" Had a good chuckle over that comment, Love it!
You can tell Alyssa is Canadian just from the way she apologises to the watering-can for moving it!
Love how none of these tips refer to dressing to look slimmer or covering your wobbly bits; just chic accessories accessible to all. Great ideas as always. Grazie!
Ciao Alyssa, I am an Italian girl, I live in Pisa (the famous leaning tower). I've been following you for many years and I'm happy that you made this video to celebrate the Italian summer style that I'm very fond of. I agree with everything you said, I would also add a scarf or maybe a straw hat. xoxo
As a person who lives in a hot climate I loved this. I hate that all hot weather videos are like “vacation” clothes. Like…people live where you vacation. Work, date , etc. and they need clothes and outfits not just vacation clothes. Does this make sense?
I also find that in many videos even if I really like the clothes the influencer is wearing, when I go to look at buying them I find they are polyester, nylon or acetate, or some other mix of horrendous synthetic fabrics that I wouldn’t dream of wearing, especially in summer, unless I wanted to turn up somewhere looking like a sweaty and smelly mess! 😂 So many short polyester dresses with massive long sleeves and high necklines that would just be suffocating in the heat. Dressing for a normal day out, supermarket shopping, cooking, cleaning, commuting and working in very hot and humid climates is definitely a challenge!
totally agree - couple of weeks back I was working as an examiner in a non-airconditioned room and it was 39 degrees C outside - had to choose outfit and fabrics very carefully!
Alyssa, this is a great video. My philosophy for many years has been that a good bag, good shoes and a good blow dry can take you just about anywhere. When I'm short on time or it's just too hot, I sub the blowdry for a neat bun. I think some lipstick and a pair of sunglasses is about all the make up you need in the summer as well. Enjoy your trip.
Of all the gorgeous aspects of Italian style, when I think of the defining element it is their way with accessories. Really distinguishes Italian from other European styles. These folks are not afraid to make a point with accessories!
To me, it also seems that the Italians have fewer age-related fashion rules, as you will find older women wearing sexy looks in showing a bit more skin (shoulders, etc.), that older women tend not to do in the states.
Italians hold onto their sense of feminine sexiness and seem to find a lot of fun in expressing it.
Really enjoyed this. I'd love to see how Italian women over 50 dress, is it different from UK/Canada?
As a Canadian in Europe.... absolutely, there's a huge difference.
Raised in Dublin, lived in London, now in Vancouver, I find most Canadians can't be bothered to dress well or appropriately. Athleisure wear, a sloppy alternative, has taken the place of everyday, and there's very little that's stylish going on. There's also very little choice between fast fashion (Zara, H&M) and the high end, (Max Mara, Kors, etc) It's a testament to the lack of fashion sense, that so many retail clothing stores either close down, or won't even take the chance of opening a store here😢 To be fair, I'm speaking of Vancouver, so it may be different in Toronto, and I've heard that Montreal has more of a French vibe so things may be better there....
@@mmcs4973sadly, the same in the US. Even in Washington, DC I find that most are solely dressing for comfort regardless of age. I am surprised at the number of positive comments I get on my very casual and understated outfits that are nothing more than a bit of styling, classic jewelry, and a deliberate approach to hair and make-up. All low maintenance and comfortable but with intention.
@BeauOnTheGo_DC Yes! The same here. I'm frequently asked where I'm going "all dressed up" in regular clothes, styled a little with earrings and shoes. Funny, but a bit sad..
There are several older women in the slideshow. White dresses and bold jewelry seem to be a trend.
Show us more Milan! (Thrift shops!!)
I would love to join Alyssa on a thrift tour in Milan!
Italians are simply the best dressed! I agree how eyewear can set the vibe, its a key accessory
Italy always looks good on you 💕
Italian language sounds so incredible, like a music ☺️💖
Love love love this video! I could stare at pictures of women in Italy all day long lol definitely love style of older women in Italy. All over, but particularly in northern Italy. Milan is such an incredibly elegant city. Can’t wait to see more from you on the trip.
It’s not Sunday without Alyssa! You never disappoint and always give me something to think about! I have a few pairs of bright tennis shoes and will start wearing them 😉
Love when you speak Italian even I do not understand a word…
I love your videos when you’re in Italy. I have a friend who went there every summer for a month and she would bring me back beautiful jewelry. I have some that is made out of acrylic and it is gorgeous. They were clip on earrings and then a ring , was very unusual and it is somethingI wear to this day. she always came back with designer sunglasses and she still has them. She used to tell me that the women in the summer would wear the acrylic jewelry because it was not hot on her finger. These pieces were big and bold but not obnoxious.
Love your content, Alyssa! I do have to comment on sunglasses as fashion. I wear prescription sunglasses, so they are about sight and eye protection for me. And they already cost a lot without putting the lenses in designer frames. I have a classic frame, and that works!
Joining you in the blind as a bat club. I have one pair of sunglasses bc my prescription is complicated (read expensive). I would love to add a pair. Maybe I’ll save up….
Sunglasses look so good on so many people. Bummer that prescription sunglasses are not in my budget.
@@calleachbeare5173 You are not alone...Prescription sunglasses are not in my budget as well. That is okay, one less pair to lose or misplace.
I need a prescription too, and after years of steadily worsening, my eyes have reached a plateu and have stayed the same for 2-3 years. I never wanted to purchase sunglasses because every year my eyes would get worse and my prescription would change. Finally splurged and my sunglasses are heaven sent! I feel so cool when I wear them and I don't get as many headaches from sun glare.
But my goodness, they were so expensive 😂
@@user-cz7pt8hn2f I am so glad you are relieved from headaches from sun glare! That must be a game-changer. I bet you look great in them.
It would be cool to see curvy Italians and chic style… just to see how curvy girls wear Italian style.
I have never seen a single curvy Italian woman, at least in the northern part. Must be genetics 😅
@@user-im3os5xf8i um I have?
Check out glamorous Italian film star Sophia Loren in her younger and older days.
Love your videos! Please do a video just on sunglasses, like which ones go with sporty outfits and which are dressier, etc. and how to use them effectively in different outfits. I have many many sunglasses but don’t know how best to wear them. Thank you for considering.
Alyssa, you so come alive in Italy. You just glow and look so incredibly happy. Love your gorgeous shirt, that blue is perfect. As for fashion in Milan, it's absolutely beautiful. The colour, the individuality, I applaud the diverse age range wearing outfits with flare and above all confidence. Would love to see more about Italian style on your channel, anytime. Safe travels. Thank you for your amazing content ❤
Looks like the Navy linen shirt from Power of My People that she has featured on one of her videos. I actually bought it and it’s lovely!
Loved this video! And what a calming backyard backdrop
You’re my favorite!! Sometimes I get so confused about style when listening to other video’s of do’s and don’ts!! I love your simplicity but elegant style’s!!
I absolutely loved this video! I live in a subtropical climate so it’s warm/boiling hot and humid for most of the year! Therefore styling videos that work on layering to convey your sense of fashion simply don’t work here. Thank you so much!!! ❤
Fashion is about experimentation, we are not saving lives here😂, great comment, Greetings from Switzerland
Italy looks good on you Alyssa! I love your linen button down with the stacked jewelry. I love to accessorize! Thank you for this video ❤😊
I was in Paris in April - and it was amazing how low key the street wear was. Lots of black, sneakers there were big too. Lightweight longer puffy jackets were also a big staple (conversely there was some leather wear too, but so much puff). And there the jewelry was super delicate and layered. Funny how different it is!
Thank you, Alyssa... What a treat to find you here... In Italy! I loved hearing your observations. Keep them coming. Also, loved the background you chose (with or without the watering can 😉). Just watching made me feel like I was on a mini vacation. Have a wonderful time!
Appreciate the reporting from the destination! Sometimes the tension between packing to look good vs being comfortable is hard to navigate. Selecting open tote bags (theft-prone?) where I keep my wallet & phone and flat, unsupportive sandals (ouch) are not my thing even for everyday living, but the other items are exciting options as they are so doable.
Ciao from Milan...Michigan. 😊 Enjoy your travels & thanks for your wonderful content as always, Alyssa! ❤
Absolutely loved this video Alyssa, 10/10! 👌😘 I totally agree that Italians are the best at accessorising. And the images of Italian women showing the different accessories and styles were fantastic! More of this please, and love your videos of going to boutique shops and pre-loved fashion shops if there are any near you. ❤❤❤ Enjoy your time in Milano, bella!
Alyssa , I'm from Sicilian ancestry, dark eyes, eyebrows big hair! I wear sunglasses year round up here in the Pacific Northwest never with our them, love your Italy vlogs! 🇮🇹
Loved this video and loved hearing you speak Italian! Beautiful language and country!
Italians are the best in accessorising every simple look❤
Love seeing Italian style...I love style that speaks to my accessories obsession 😊 I find accessories more inclusive also, not so dependent on body size, age and or budget or fashion so they have longevity and they don't wear out so fast!! 😘 Thanks for sharing Alyssa your style is impeccable.
Any ideas for sandals for women’s with large feet?
Always enjoy your content! Thank you so much for being you and offering valuable advise
Italy is a bucket list item for me. I agree accessories in the summer can help put you and your outfit together. One thing I do believe in is get a bag for the summer. I think the bag that you carry in the winter is just that it’s too heavy for the summer season. Ciao!
Love your content ❤ so on point about Italian style!
I really enjoy your perspective on fashion, Alyssa!
That was a great video and super useful for anyone with travel plans - thanks Alyssa!
Loved this from Italy since I was there in May. I am totally embracing the accessories for summer. From simpler, smaller handbags to my new large basket bag from Sézane. Sneakers, too, are a big must for me in cool styles and embellishments. Oh, and always a great array of sunnies. Love it all!!❤🎉
This was so cosy and insightful! I loved all the examples. Thank you Alyssa ❤️
That was fun! Thanks, Alyssa! Have a lovely vacay!
Ciao Alyssa! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this lovely content!
Thank you! You are such a delight and a great resource! ❤
Thank you for this video, Alyssa. I always enjoy your style perspective. I am wondering who makes your shirt. It’s the perfect amount of polish and chill. Thanks!
It is one of her many Power of My People, a Canadian brand, available online too.
This was great. Each item focuses on individual style and preference, which gives both endless options and narrow focus . Well done.
Yes! Every summer I've visited Rome, the women are always in dresses. Have you noticed a particular style of dress? Love your content!❤❤
Love these travel vlogs. It's great to look outside your own environment and see what other people on the street are doing. Winter where I am, cold, so it's nice to look forward to warm weather. As it happens I have been layering a lot during the summer with light open shirts as a shacket (hope this is spelt right) to keep sun off me.
Great tips, as always! Happy trails!
I love your Italian videos sooooo much ❤
I’d love to see some photos of store windows to see how they are putting the summer styles together !
This was a fun one!
Love this video! EXCELLENT observations in Milan. Love your shirt.
Hola Alyssa, maybe are you able to show us what people on the street are wearing? I always have my sunglasses on, all seasons 😎. Enjoy your time in Italy 😊
Brilliant 🎉🎉🎉🎉 10 out of 10 love some pi’s of style
Ciao Alyssa and grazie mille per un altro video molto interessante! How to be and dress like an Italian once out of Italy - this is an interesting subject as well!
Hi Alyssa, great video! ❤ I’m originally from Milan and you just made a great analysis!
Hi Alyssa, love your videos
Loving this darker blue shirt on you!
I love to hear you speak Italian. Italian dressing is so interesting to me. I’d like to know what they typically have in their wardrobe. For example, what are the staples pieces they have? Have a wonderful time on holiday Alyssa ❤
Agreed on all points.
Great video!
Thank you!
Please show us vintage and thrift shops in Milan or anywhere in Italy! I love Preloved and vintage and Italians do it the best ❤you look beautiful in navy blue and so relaxed
Your blue blouse is fabulous
Always enjoy your channel and I agree that Merivale Vision Care has a good selection of eye wear (as go there myself as am a Nepean-ite). 🙂
Fun video!
Love your style aesthetic. Happy Canada day from Richmond Hill. Very excited for my upcoming trip to Italy in October (unbelievably, my first time in Italy!) Any suggestions on what to pack? carry on only of course. Ciao bella!
Love this! How do you pack/travel with a wide brim summer hat on a 12+ hr flight?
Always seemed to me anything goes in Italy - the one thing that always strikes me is that women live to dress & unique style is encouraged 👍
Hi I love your video and I agree with you in everything.
The point is how we fell every body having different personality differente style the most important is you need feel beatiful with self confidence and really good with your own style that is the key .In my opinion less is more .
Thank you so much .
Greetings from Utah .
🥰🥰🥰
Brava, hai colto l' essenza dello stile italiano. Enjoy Milano e la Sardegna
can you share your necklace selection. love the look
Very fun, darling Alyssa, thank you. Grazie mille! Love when you're in bella Italia! Be happy, you're awesome.
P.S. Really liked the watering can in the background. So PUT IT BACK please, hahaha... Love you!
Ciao! Another typical thing are shirts, men&women wears tailored shirts, linen in summer, but always well tailored!
and I wear then too even at the sea like a cover-up 😉
Well tailored...until you go outside and that linen wilts, gets wrinkled and sweaty.
Ciao bellissima!!! Adoro tutti i tuoi video!!! ❤ secondo me un‘altra cosa importante da dire é che gli italiani d’estate stanno attenti ai tessuti! Privilegiando cotone e lino! Come la tua meravigliosa camicia in questo video 😍 ciaoooo 💖
Alyssa! Traveling to Italy in July, this is so helpful! Traveling with my children. What are moms and children wearing?
Wowza❤️
Hi Alyssa, Great video! I loved the focus on Sunny's and accessories. Made me think about regular glasses and wonder what the cool ladies in Italy are wearing inside. Would you please, please consider doing a video about regular glasses. I think the super heavy frames are on the way out in Europe. Is that true? My very chic cousin from Danmark talked me into some great round wire frames. I feel like I'm ahead of the curve. What do you think?
Hope you are having the best time in Italy! xxoo
Could you do a video on over 60s dressing?
Hi Alyssa,
Have you ever thought of organizing a fashion tour through Italy? Rounding up a group of people (probably would mostly be women) and visiting vintage shops, thrift stores an flea markets and maybe just some regular retail stores? You seem very familiar with the terrain and know all the cool places. I'd be one of the first to sign up!
I was looking at organising tours in the UK a few years ago. If you arrange transport and accommodation etc you are classed as a Tour Operator and there are all sorts of insurances and laws you need to abide by.
The only way around it is to say to everyone meet me here in this city and you book your own hotels and flights etc. It would be fun. Can you imagine, shopping then dining Italian style in a group.
Ciao Alyssa! I have enjoyed your recent post! And yes, Italians have undeniably fantastic style! Per your request, perhaps you could showcase in a future post a short walking tour of any of your excursions in Italy? - Rossi (Philadelphia PA USA).
Grazie mille!!! Ti amo Italia!! 😍Di Uk
Thrilled to know Im at 3/5. 😊
Ciao from Friuli..Bravissima sempre❤
Are you planning to come to Turin any time soon? Greetings from here.
Where'd you get your button down top? It's the perfect color!
Hello from beautiful Roma! Alyssa you're right sunglasses can really make the difrence in an outfit, the problem is....they're really expensive! I have a classic turtleshell pair that I use all the time. Also because I'm short-sighted wich makes them even more expensive.
More from Italy please!
This might be an odd comment, but could you do a video addressing how you style your button-down shirts with such a plunging neckline. Not being judgey, love it actually. Just wondering how to make it work when walking around and moving and such.
The summer is very hard to dress for. I’m pasty af so I always have to be mindful of sunburns even though it’s too hot in the southeast US to be able to wear pants or long sleeve anything
hey, like your outfit. what are you wearing with that blue linen shirt?????
Ciao Alyssa, mille grazie per il tuo video e saluti dalla Svizzera😊 - have you ever visited the textile district of the city of Prato or the city itself? I've never, but hope to do so one day...have a wonderful time in Italy❤
