1 of two things is happening. Either the league is telling Sides to level off CCs shine, or Sides is leveling of her upside to appease other players. Nobody makes such bad coaching decisions and keeps their job unless ii's part of something else.
This HC is super sus. There are a bunch of other possibilities. There's already been at least couple of games that have been thrown they were favored to win. Other people have already mentioned this, but it would be very easy for HC to have some other people cash in on the betting odds.

Bottom line: Sides is an absolute JOKE!! Mitchell doesn't care about the team, just herself, and Wheeler pretty much the same. With that combination this team will never be successful.

No rebounds, assist, steals, blocks, she doesn't pass. 43% shooter 16.0 points a game. Trading her to get Paige would be the best move for the future. Let her cost her next team wins for not knowing what a pass is. Caitlin is shooting like crap, but does everything else, assist, block, steal, rebounds. So her shooting a little bit lower is worth the trade off. Watch some bball before comments on the team.
Mitchell is a gunner, she’s actually good in that roll, you just don’t want her to have the ball early in an offensive set. Wheeler cares a lot, watch her on the bench, she’s all about the team, she just don’t fit with CC as a player.

It’s unlikely they’ll find an all star caliber player to replace Mitchell and unless you can find a quality player that fits better you just have to take the good with the bad with her.
And yes, Sides needs to go but not because she’s sabotaging the team, she’s just not a very good coach. That last play was drawn up for Clark, it was just a really bad play.

Dude, you’re spot on with so many of your points. They never run pick & roll with Clark & Boston, never run off ball screens for Clark, their defensive strategy is non-existent, Sides doesn’t know what she’s doing. It’s like Clark is running an offense that is meant for somebody else. And this idea of subbing her out on defense is ridiculous. Clark’s numbers are impressive, especially when considering all these handicaps. Sides has to go.

It seemed Christie Sides was a little nervous and uneasy yesterday at the post game press conference. I think she knows what's coming. Her ass is getting fired during the Olympic break. And Lin Dunn needs to go too.

This is what needs to happen, Sides takes Clark into her office, closes the door, sits down at her desk, asks Clark to sit down, takes a deep breath and asks - Caitlin who do you want to start the game with - listen - then do - and after the Game Caitlin will give her the credit - simple solution if you think about it.
Her ego won't allow that. I remember a press conference early in the season, when the media asked her about all the social media posts criticizing the players. She interrupted him and said, with a smirk, "...and the coach?"
Sides is doing this on purpose. I can`t make anything else out of it.

Watching from Philipines..retired here. This video of the last 16 seconds actually misses the real screw up. CC was pushing the ball toward 3 point line and the defense was in disarray..still getting set….Sides called a time out. Fever sucks at set pieces anyway. But the defense gets to get set up also. So the end result of timeout was to take the balll away from CC ( the hot hand) and give it to the guard who is cold and who never passes. So in the last 16 seconds only one shot and it didn’t even hit the rim…

The fact that CC was on fire in the last quarter 3 pointers, steals, she sped up her play if only they played this way from the start. The ball just needed to go to CC ,Boston should screen and and then push in for the rebound if CC misses but she’s the best chance.
Sides has absolutely no idea what she's doing. She is not capable of strategy or adjustments or just drawing up a late game play. She's just bad.
You make an interesting point about how little Sides was involved with the 4Q comeback. Was Sides penalizing CC with that awful final play? "Baby girl, this is MY team." Regardless, Sides gotta go!
With all that Clark did to bring the Fever back, Coach Sides doesn’t trust Caitlin to get the shot or make the right play, she runs the play for Mitchell who shot 0-8 from 3. Sides is clueless.
What I don't get is, the Fever had the Big 10 defender of the year on the roster, and only gave her a few minutes, really seconds, of playing time before she was cut for "business reasons". With playing time she had, it is impossible to evaluate her as a player. If they'd given her a fair shot, I could see a lineup with her, Hull, Boston, Samuelson and Clark as starters. Two good defenders would help on the defensive end, and, with Smith and Mitchell coming in off the bench, I don't think they would need an all offensive first team to put points on the board.

I really didn't watch pro basketball until the 80s when Bird and Johnson came on the scene. Part of that is I was only 11 in 1980, but the NBA game stank on ice back then. It was basically the same game the WNBA plays today, guards feeding the ball to bigs on the inside...ie, boring. Bird was a forward, but he had assist numbers like I guard. Part of that was the Celtics system, which Ms. Sides should study every night, but mostly I think Bird just wanted to win at all costs. I see a lot of him in Ms. Clark.

I think Sides is afraid that if Clark wins one at the buzzer, that she (Sides) will be put on the sidelines and all credit will go to CC. Sides wants to take all the credit for herself. There is way too much jealousy going on in this league, IMO. Dunn is also a problem as she is the one that brought in Sides and she probably wants to get credit for hiring a "genius coach".
This is not the question to ask the question is why isn't she gone yet ?
It’s looking more and more like the head office is in cahoots with the woke commissioners. There’s way too many instances where CC could’ve broken records or won games but was stopped by the “ coach “.

The coaching ability of Christie Sides has been on full display all year and is horrifying. Once again, she literally took the ball out of Clark's hands in crunch time. The hottest player on the floor who single handedly just brought you back from 21 down and the coach literally took the ball from her. This is another loss that is completely on Christie Sides. Not the first.

The only option is for Caitlin Clark to ask for a trade or Fever change their head coach. How many instances that this type of situation arose and Sides could not even make a simple play strategy? It is very obvious that Sides has preference for Michell and Wheeler even if it will lead to losing the game, LOL.
The coach is lost with 3 Allstars smh…. Her philosophy of just showing up apparently is not working… it’s time to go!
For comparison go back and watch the last second shot Clark hit against Indiana in the season finale in 2023. Brilliantly drawn up play by Coach Bluder with a double screen for Clark and other options for the inbounder (Kate Martin btw). The contrast in coaching and player execution could not be more profound. And also that was the ONLY time Iowa ever used that play in a game time situation. One could even argue that that moment helped propel Iowa and Clark into the stratosphere of national popularity.

Sides did say in today's shoot around interview that there is more lineup changes for next game. She said she wouldn't talk about it though.

Sides has to go, she has no idea what she is doing or how to manage CC. Dump her at the break so the team has some time to adjust to the new coach.
Coach Sides must not keep track of the game. BTW, Catlin has been in more of these high-pressure do or die situations, game on the line situations than anyone on the team, including Coach Sides. So, at the end of the game, you take Catlin out, and the last play you set up the play for Mitchell, who went 0 for 8 on three pointers. It's just sad...the coach and Mitchell still disrespect Catlin. Plus the referees were horrible the Fever post players had 14 fouls called against them VS 7 against post players for Mystics.
Only one post players for the Fever shot a free throw VS 6 for the Mystics.
If I was Caitlin Clark and Sides pulls me in the 4 th period and teammates that are not shooting well and I am and they don’t pass the ball to me , I am jumping to a team that’s going to have me play the game .

Yes, good for Sides. She needs to run this team like a business! She needs to be respected by the team. It was a great move. I actually hope Smith doesn't start again tonight. Her benching is not why they lost. They came out flat and paid big time for it. They can win without Nalyssa Smith, and her online antics with her girlfriend from the Connecticut Sun are truly unprofessional and unnecessary. I'm not a huge Sides fan either, but she did the right thing in this case.
They need a real coach in order to win.
As a leader, in any field, you have to suck up the ego bruising and delegate to others who have more talent or expertise in any and all aspects of your field and facilitate them doing their best to advance a common goal. You have a generational talent who sees all other 9 players on the court *and* has the ability to anticipate by 0.5-2 seconds their movements independently of one another in space. That is an underutilized offensive weapon, for certain. But, those same skills and abilities translate conversely to defense, hence the steals and number of defensive rebounds to start breaks she is grabbing and energizing the team defensive effort to build offensive runs, with critical contributions from Hull in terms of defensive focus and intensity in passing lanes and Boston rim-protecting. So, subbing CC offense-for-defense instantly drains the momentum out of the run by disrupting the cohesion, flow, and energetic focus that they have on the court. This travesty of a strategy is also taking place in Indiana, where they pride themselves on basketball IQ, fundamentals, and team execution, so I cannot for the life of me understand how it continues unabated unless it is motivated by tanking for draft picks, or a misguided attempt to ‘instruct’ CC on how WNBA offense is different than NCAA. Buckets matter more than a hackneyed philosophy from an instructional video, which is what it feels like when watching. CC is playing aspects of B1G women’s and men’s basketball (see e.g. Izzo teams pushing pace off of made baskets as a fundamental offensive principle) that would translate well and bring them at least a few more made baskets, if not generate huge momentum shifts. The Fever have the players with the talent and intensity to be a winning team, but the rotation pattern and a philosophy of what to do on the court when the (poorly designed 😮💨) play is broken is lacking. It’s the toxic attitude of someone who is convinced and determined that their power lies in controlling/micromanaging the situation rather than in taking perspective and creating the circumstances that allow your Thorobreds room to run. You know what happens when you try to control Thorobreds, they spook and try to run through barbed wire fences-i.e. broken plays with no individual player agency /autonomy to make decisions on the court because you’ve effectively taken the frontal cortex offline through systematic de-skilling, so that everyone defaults to their rote patterns instead of seeing and playing the game as it is in that moment. Tragic.

coaching is not good enogh the lack of not working as a team is insane, everyone is standing and not knowing what to do 1000, unless all hitting shots and transition then they win or re in the game.

She kept the Smith controversy in-house, but she shared the Clark text with the world. Maybe she is learning. Maybe she protects certain players and not others. I lean toward the latter explanation.
She has to go, but they really need a complete rebuild, GM, coach, and several major player changes.

Having said that, the Fever still leaves a lot of points by missing easy layups. The Fever need to play fast pace with players who can run and catch CC passes and play defense. This type of play is what gives them a chance to win. Play up tempo and use players who can run. Use the lineup that they had to beat the New York team. Wheeler is an okay player, but she can't be on the court with CC. She can't play up tempo. Hall should be starting the next game. Or at least play a lot she fits with Cc's running style play Mitchell, Boston, Smith, Samuelson, Hall and even Dantes maybe Febanelli & CC see if you can sign a free agent who can run and shoot. They need practice of fundamentals - screening, passing, pick and rolls, and just getting in physical condition to run.
The Fever need to play defense and run run and run if they want to continue to win.

in the game where Ogumbawale throws up a shot at the clock violation she should have been charged with double dribble. When she lost the ball it was after she stopped dribbling, and no one touched the ball but her.
we are stuck with sides just hope sides has more time for preparation for gms i think she never preps her players think she’s always late, gms,practices, she should stay home take care of kids bottom line thats the reason team not prepared , she’s not running game situations, during practice , so they don’t know what to do .. get with it coach stay home or get into the game ….

In college plays are already scripted and practiced a lot just for game ending needed baskets.
Yet I see these so called professional basketball coaches with their crayon and Etch-A-Sketch drawing up a play.
Even Caitlin said several times after close games in college.
They practice that game winning play a lot for her to get the shot.

My speculation on Smith is, might of missed practice due to party time with the girl friend. You miss practice, you don't start the next game.
I saw Mitchell early in the game get hit hard by a screen and it looked like she hurt her back. It may be the reason she had a bad game.
