For me the biggest thing that stops me is that I don’t know the pathing
When I tank I just passively memorized the path doing low keys with guildies
Same here donno what group to pull to get 100% at end
A tip that was useful to me. Run some dungeons as dps and check other tank's routes. That helped me so much that as tank i was doing routing with close eyes 👀
I was in same boat but i just play dps and that gives me an idea of the route so its easier when i tank
@@robinenbernhard i suggest just start using dratnos routes.
I used that together with a weakaura wich automaticly marks the packs i have in my route. After that its just doing, doing doing. Am sure u can do it.
The problem with being a new comer to Tanking is the amount of pressure from the group alone, the expectations are high and knowing the mechanics of every encounter are vital. Honestly its not easy it takes time but hopefully people are less judgmental in the new expansion and learn together rather than judge the player, remember its not only tanks but there are also people moving away from DPS into healing too.
The problem I have with dragonflight is dps melee they go in pull cleave before I do as a tank I know I can aggro but it pisses me off I enjoy tanking and been playing prot paladin even tho its the worst tank at the moment I am enjoying it
@@SauteKing8760 Same here, I play all three specs at the moment and enjoying them just as much
They won't, especially destruction warlocks and shadow priests. Worst dps to play with, always crying cuz they can't spread dps properly.
Thanks for taking the time to put this vid together & share it with us! :)
If you were wondering whether or not you can just queue up for normals and just go for it, you absolutely can. I did that and everyone was very understanding
Instant sub. I haven't mythic tanked since WoD and want to do it again, but it feels like a brand new role to me even though I did it well back in the day. Thanks so much for this! Prot warrior all the way!
Man that was a fast reaction from when I suggested it 😂 great vid man, good tips. It's always great to make it easier to welcome new tanks to the ranks. I remember when I just got started, it was a BIG step for me to be a tank. Took last of vids, guides and such.
I would add to talk with friends/guildies that you are friendly with and try out some dungeons with the class you are comfortable with. Just the pugging in itself is hard for some people.
I just started thinking about what I would recommend, and next thing I knew I had a script started so I knew this video was going to be fairly easy to make. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll be something soon regarding gearing for the start of dragonflight and dungeon scaling (which was another thing you suggested)
Starting tank here after 6 years away from WoW.
Great channel, you earned my sub 👍🏽
i started tanking in wotlk as a paladin. i had a core group wanting to get all the cheevo's for the red protodrake. i became very confident, learned every dungeon, knew when to pop cds, etc. coming back to wow i feel like a fish out of water. i want to tank but my lifestyle does not allow me to just brute force learn because i no longer have a team support me. even dungeons where there is nothing on the line i get shat on trying to learn how to pull properly, using my cds to get threat back on me, but even losing threat for a second i am clowned on. feels like shit and just makes me want to roll dps tbh man
Got pushed into tanking a +5 shadow moon burial ground as my first mythic dungeon of the season yesterday... felt like a wet tissue in some packs and relying on others for the path was stressful needed more information, I now have more information. Thanks
Side note, there are weakauras that will put an arrow above mobs heads that are included in the route contained in MDT.
Name of the WA?
WAT dat name?
As a new tank as of Season 3, I was extremely nervous when I started. A few wobbly pops helped but that wasn’t going to last as I’d have to do it sober eventually 😅.
I worked my way to KSM on my tank in S3. When I first started out, I did quests in tank spec to get a feel for the rotation, worked my way up to heroics (super nervous the first few times) and eventually I began doing M+. Believe me, once your comfortable with you class, know the routes (via practise as mentioned) the nerves go away. Having tried all 3 rolls, tanking is by far the most rewarding. You can also put in the description “new tank, learning routes” or something so the players go in knowing you’re learning. Or just go as DPS first and watch what the tank does 😂
Sha mentioned getting flamed as a tank for making a mistake but I didn’t really have that problem. We didn’t time every key I did, groups fell apart but never did I get flamed.
In the end, tanking is great fun, rewarding and who doesn’t like an instant invite to almost every group?
Fantastic video. Been tanking for awhile but still glad i watched
Appreciate the content thank you did a pretty good job. I just switched from Druid healer to a paladin tank I will say I think it’s the most fun I’ve ever had
The bonus advice is probably the most important :D Sometimes i help the tanks pulling the correct mobs when i am not tanking. Many appreciated that. Also read chat. So many times tanks just pull way to less or way to much. In lower content most people are understanding, but if you keep refusing to listen for advice or keep on making the same mistakes thats where the toxicity will roll in. So also be open minded for advice from the other members of the group. You're not the god of the dungeon right away and some people might know more than you do. Once you get the hang of it it's the most fun wow has to offer imo
Great video! I am happy to learn and practise, but my challenge is that I am over sensitive to other's comment when things go wrong
Glad to see Darkmech made it on the list, he’s been doing tank content for who knows how long
I wasn't going to make any alts this time... I'm now levelling a "Protection Warrior Bluffwatcher" and your videos have been insightful, being new to the class. I'm having a blast levelling up and greatly looking forward to DF. Thanks for the videos. Subscribed!
Glad to help Thanks :)
I'd like to highly recommend Tactyks as one of your listed tank streamers too. Streams on twitch under that name, but also puts out RUclips vids also by that name.
Really helpful guy with them, and is currently putting out a RUclips guide to each of the DF season 1 dungeons followed by a more tank specific one, includes links to his routes, details on tank busters, etc.
Excellent video, thanks
I found just playing the role and being open to learning and growing, just works. Sure some people might be rude at first but who really cares. I don’t regret learning to dps/tank/heal it has broadened my understanding of the game and improved my gameplay
If I never learned to tank, I would have never become as good of a dps as I have become. Now I understand all the small things I can do to help out the group, things I never would have thought about before.
Tks. Great content.
I want to get back into tanking this expansion. I tanked a heroic guild in Mist of Pandaria, back when that was the hardest content, and I really enjoyed it. But I had stopped playing when Mythic Plus became a thing. However I really enjoyed the ridiculously overtuned Cataclysm heroic dungeons, so I've always felt M+ would be fun for me. I think I can do it!
Good tips, thank you. I also follow Mazorrok, Darkmech and Tactyks for tank stuff.
One little side note. You shouldn't care about deplets, out of times and intimes. Try your best and you will do it at some point! Also, You can record your runs and watch back the parts that you are unsure why did you die OR why didn't you die. 🐼 Have a nice!
What is the program that you record your m+ runs?
My main tank uses hekali to do high keys it basically gives you suggestions for mitigation and damage as it happens and you can turn certain skills off for bosses. It's only suggestions obviously you wouldn't pop rune blade when a boss is 1 pull away. So it still takes some management on your part. But it works for him
A few tips I have for new tanks is to let people know before starting a run that you are either unfamiliar with the dungeon, or new to tanking, if you say this, people will be way less judgmental, and maybe willing to help. I would also say to keep an open mind to new strategies. I’ve been tanking since WoD, and my Strats are constantly changing due to input from dps who have done the dungeon we are running with a more experienced tank and has a cheese strat for bosses and stuff. That being said though, don’t be afraid to tell the dps you are uncomfortable doing a new route or strat in a high key without learning it in a lower key first. Most dps players will tolerate a bad tank if the tank is trying to improve, they just hate bad tanks that refuse to learn new things or get better.
Last but not least, just because your a tank, doesn’t mean you get to slack off and not farm out BIS gear. I see this a lot with raid tanks, they think that because they aren’t dying they’re fine to not do any extra m+ in their free time. Do not fall into this trap. Tank damage is important, taking less damage is always important. Don’t feel as if you can slack off because you aren’t competing for top dps, eventually the guild or group hits a wall because of your laziness and it breeds a lot of resentment from the dps and healers who ARE putting in the work to gear, only for a lazy tank to ruin the run for them.
Literally where have to seen tanks slacking on gear in a Guild where no one else does?
That is my go to strategy.
As the count down for the M+ start, I always type, i don't know this dungeon. Lead the way. So yeah, its to late for them then.
I decided to try tanking on my warrior which I created a new one just to learn the tanking party even though I have a near Max warrior. But I created a macro that I hit the instant we get inside an instance announcing that I am new to have patience and to let me pull so that I can learn the class and the mechanics. So far I've not really had any pushback from other players.
Don't tell people that you are new, they will just flame you even faster
I feel like MDT is really important, but also that it’s dropped in importance once prideful was done.
Very true.
It’s maintained it’s importance throughout shadowlands, it’s awesome to be able to make custom routes that route out to a perfect 100% if someone in your group sucks at certain mechanics of some mobs, and with shrouded, it was super nice to customize routes with how many shrouded guys you want to pull, without being over on %. It also always maintains its importance since allowing the dps of the group to know your route allows them to save cds for pulls you might do that others don’t that you need cd’s for, or wether or not to save pot for invis skip. Prideful made MDT even more important for sure, but if you’re tanking and don’t have MDT you’re starting off at a disadvantage
For me as a newbie tank in S3 it was still helpful. I played following Dratnos routes, but if I went way over count or was under count or whatever, I could look at MDT after we finished and try to work out what I pulled extra or missed pulling. It made it easier to have a practical lesson from routing mistakes rather than just having to say oh well I'll try to pay more attention next time.
Ehi Sha, great video, i've started tanking from season 4 of shadow, and i'm quite enjoying it also ur tips are helping me a lot. I was wondering what weakaura u are using to see ur hp bar and see ur shields going outside of it. Could u share it with us it would be so cool if u can. Thanks a lot.
This is why I'm glad I have an IRL group to play with this xpac. I tanked solo through SL and man was it a headache. This time around I have my wife as a healer and good friends as dps, and its their introduction to WoW so I'll be having to teach them how to play the game in general on top of dungeons lol
Typically I just don’t tank until after I have run every Mythic+ dungeon at level 10 or higher as a dps.
That way I know the routing, what packs are the most dangerous, and when to use utility or cooldowns.
Helps a ton.
Nice sample at the end...makes me want to free style
Drogoh is a great tank to watch as well. He interacts with viewers and also has a discord he answers questions in.
Except tip no 2, yea, nice little pieces of useful advice. 2nd tip though, I don't know how I feel about it. For me it leans more into lose fun/win efficiency and that's a trade I'm not willing to make generally speaking.
Nice vid though, keep it up, you've been nailing them!
“Either unknown or hated.” 😂😭 Factual information.
Ouch Sha! That hit to Arcane mage really hurt! LMAO. Seriously, great vid as always!
Hi man which tank do you recommend for dragonflight i have always played the monk do you recommend that or to change?
Mostly Mythic Plus game
Hey, love your content! Thank you for such a nice and quick guide, especially for someone like me who only plays casually nowadays few hours a week, this is great as I always used to prepare thoroughly to raids and dungeons, it has stayed with me and I will always make sure I am prepared!
I noticed another thing that you have that caught my eye, which is the circle around your mouse where you are pointing. Would you be so kind as to share some light on that? It looks cool and definitely makes it more visible. *edit. I found your weak aura for it :)
Great vid explainjng that theres so much more to tanking than walking backwards. Take a 👍🏼 and a 🔔 . I would add a clean IU with just what you need, yours is a great example, and keybinds that you practice over and over so its reflex.
you should start leaving a list of your add ons, im sure im not the only one who would really appreciate it. thanks for the tips homie
I started a tank 5 days ago after buying the game for pvp and playing that exclusively for a month. No prior experience with wow. I have no relevant add ons and this is the first video I have watched to try and educate myself.
I gotta say though: it isn't hard or scary. I've been flamed once or twice starting my journey into m+ (how was I supposed to know being immune to damage cancels aggro?!), but today I did a +9 with randoms no problem. I understand that I have a million things still to learn, for example: I still haven't done a raid. Some dungeons have really oppressive do or die mechanics that you just have to know to succeed.... but I'm having fun and it feels like I am succeeding. Don't be scared people! If you wanna tank, just tank.
Edit: thanks for the informative video. You got my sub. Now for the love of god please tell me what add ons you're using!
If I had a little advice to people wanting to tank...
1. Play what looks fun to you
2. Play blood dk if you arent sure because you can keep yourself alive easier lol
I play bk cause I can brez the healer :)
@@vanguelisk we are the healer 😎
I start tanking with Blood dk. I dont reccomend new people pick Dk.
I recommend prot Paladin and guardian Druid for new players. Prot warriors and BDKs are a bit more complex
I have tried pretty much all tanks except DH and the only one I have "married" too is Blood just because I dont have to rely on the healer. And going down to a couple % of health to full boost the dopamin ;P
one azeroth tv is a dude that almost exclusively streams and posts pug M+ runs. Great content for tanks and other players alike
I want to try tanking for quite some time, but i was always "too scared" and nervous so i never tried
2:14 - Can you tell me what shield and mace you're using for transmog?
Can’t wait to get into tanking again! What’s the link for your weak auras please?
How do you get the circle around your mouse, been trying to figure it out.
It's a WeakAura from Wago.io
Here is the link: wago.io/H1ZiNu_Yf
Isn't there a "play" button in MDT for mob pulls within a dungeon. Been a while since I've used it, usually at first season start, but was key to knowing my route and what the next mob pull is.
In my case torgast was my training ground. Seems it worked. Only wrong decision i made is that i was a Blood DK 😅
As someone that started tanking very very late into SL season 3 and got KSM. Its really just about doing it. You can prep all you want but until you get out there its all in vain.
Lmao. That arcane mage jab was hilarious.
Totally agree, knowing the standard route for a dungeon and repeat it multiple times. I'd advice against jumping keylevels, instead do +2, +3 etc all the way to your goal.
Darkmech is a good tank-alcoholic, he plays all of them well and has good info/tips
I started as a holy priest, but in 2006 I started tanking with a warrior. Until 2017. I love tanking especially with a warrior. I really enjoyed the early vanilla days, all the best tanks come from that era. Today’s tank rely too much in adding, we didn’t have that until later.
WoW at Night puts out some decent tank content as well.
I can speak to the play the tank you enjoy take... I've been a tank since I started playing have tried them all I played brew s2 and s3 got really good at it but brew didn't look great coming into season 1 so I played warrior cause I pug and wanted to get into groups I hit my wall at 2700 and hit it hard and just didn't enjoy playing it I picked monk back up after the buffs and far surpassed my warrior within 2 weeks and haven't looked back sense
Thumbs up!
I feel like the solution to this is so simple. A solo instance with no rewards or exp where your health is buffed and enemies die very easily. Players can learn the layout of the dungeon and boss mechanics before joining public groups. It doesn’t have to be exactly this but I’m demonstrating how simple it would be to let people learn how to play before they get flamed and kicked for hours on end.
Meanwhile me a new player who plays DK seeing other DKs with 30k more health despite being 4 level below me
Doesn‘t mean much but every time i see something like that i always feel like i‘m doing something wrong
Hey, recently found your channel and it's very helpful. I'm looking to get into tanking in DF. Previously I have healed and dpsd hc raids and +15s. But my guild I played with for 4 years died in Sanctum during the lawsuit. But I'm getting back into the game after 18 months or so (played some classic inbetween). An IRL friend that has lead a mythic guild invited me to start a guild together with some friends of his (heroic raiding and some m+). We have 7 players so far and 0 tanks, and I have some small experience with it in retail and a lot in classic. So I volonteered, it will be fun.
Not sure what to play though. I was thinking that VDH was looking rather easy to get into and that was my top contender for last few days, but not sure. Can all 5 tanks be maintanks comfortably? Seems monk and dk are hardest to play, and with me beginning the role those shoud probably be avoided.
Anyway, rant over. Good video!
VDH is definitely a great tank to learn on! It has an easy rotation but solid abilities and cooldowns for raid and Mythic Dungeons. Any of the tanks are fine though if you decided to play something else!
I would go with Warrior/Bear/Pally in your case.
End of the day though play what looks fun to you.
I played protection paladin in BFA (only m+) and for shadowlands i started out with a blood DK, however i swapped to monk for my guild (mystic touch) since i went into heroic /mythic raiding and i have enjoyed the whole expansion with my monk as my "main" for most of the time... (changed things up with warlock / rogue)
I changed for season 2 to a VDH as we had a monk dps join the guild and i have a steady group to gear up with.
i have a little experience running low keys with bear aswell...
but for me Protection warrior are super fun and also quite good right now, as it's the last tank class i have experience with and is going to be my main for DF.
you can probably all of the content with all of the tank specs, but they all have very different playstyle... play what playstyle suits you.
also, as a tank in mythic + it is somewhat "expected" that you set the pace and route for the dungeon, so learn them routes and % counts... Mythic dungeon tool addon for import /export of routes found on the internet for each dungeon.
TLDR; They all decent, pick whatever looks interresting.
Blood DK - healer panic (pug)
BRM - healer dependent
Bear - boring talents (alot cant be used in bear form)
VDH - cool spec, strong, a little dependant on meta
Pala- Builder spender tank
Warrior - gigachad
I relearned tanking with VDH in shadowlands after a long hiatus and had a lot of fun with it. Personally looking at Pally this xpac. Levelling a warrior now to see if i can vibe with it
Once bloodDK always blood DK, every other Tank just lacks excitement and engagement for me. It’s just the whole package. It’s a bit daunting to get into but it’s really rewarding once you get comfortable. Be a goblin (for the haste as well) and get ingi speed and you don’t have any mobility worries. And from the point you start using grips and long range kicks as a tank, you never want to go back to the useless clump that is prot warrior :D😂
I’d add Naowh to the list of tanks to watch. (Tank for Echo)
It is like my martial arts teacher used to say back in the day: "practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect." The point he was making is that many times folks would put half-assed effort into their practice, which does not make perfect.
What about the last two guides for m+ dongeons?
Any way Go get my hands on the shown ui + weakauras? Really clean
What's the addon at 6:06 just below the character?
That's a WeakAurs package I've constructed for Brewmaster Monk
Naowh, Nerf, and Andybrew are good tanks too.
I hope I can use this information on any server of wow xd
I personally don’t feel tanks should be required to have any addons. But I definitely see the usefulness in it
I would say start with easier difficulties, so you get the hang of it. Then greadually increase the difficulty at your leassure.
I tank because when I’m soloing and leveling alts tanks access all content instantly and are constantly needed. I don’t really enjoy tanking but to get the gear I’ll do it. I always tell groups I’m a novice and if anyone has the audacity to kick up a fuss I always just tell em have fun waiting another 20 minutes for some other random and potentially worse tank to turn up
I usually tell people not to panic, it's way more feels-craft than anything else. Don't pull huge unless you feel comfortable with it. Whenever you see someone playing the class better than yourself, ask questions to improve (outside of streamers).
And I typically half-jokingly tell people: go into the dungeon knowing that you have the biggest PP and the baddest mf'er to walk into that dungeon.
Chugging an elixr of giant growth on my zandalri troll blood DK definitely helps.
How do you feel about Naguura? Is she more than just a pretty face?
ilvl350 Pally. should I start normal, heroic or what ya think?
MYTHIC ALL THE WAY !!!! Start with mythic 0 the challenge is ridiculous and when you feel comfortable do higher .
Ahh yes, another vid from the Sha. Seeing you on Ticklecream gets me all hot beneath the collar.
My biggest problem is shaman doesn't have a tank spec, and its the only class I like all the specs of.
U say it! Track mana of your healer😍
Ive always madey own route its always betweem 1and 2+ deoends on how high key is
Except a 20. For that id copy a route and play it that way and learn it in low level keys
You do realize that it was a lot harder to keep aggro in OG Vanilla than it is today, right? Like.... a lot harder. We disn't just stand there and take damage, we had to move the mobs around, just like we do today. The differences is today there is a giant red marker telegraphing what is coming, and even a bell, and text on the screen, which was a rarity before.
I have one tip: use your CDs early and often.
love your nameplates. This is Tidy plates?
The addon is called Threat Plates - you can find it here:
www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/tidy-plates-threat-plates
@@Sha_IRL oh. I use threat plates, but I found the setup quite different. That's why I thought it was someone else. Liked it
What tank is the best at pulling multiple Enemies towards Themselves and keeping Them focused on Themselves? In my eyes a true tank is selfless being a shield for Their Allies having the Enemies focused on attacking Them and taking on the pain and punishment so Their Allies don't get hurt and I want the tank that best reflects that.
It’s always the rogue and mage that has something to say….but the nail on the head for sure
Man how you going to do naowh like that? haha I think he should be added to this list of streamers xD.
Naowh is literally one of the best tanks in the world.
Biggest part of tanking pugs is pugs pulling to boost dps numbers u pull u tank😊
Who would be a good Guardian Druid to watch on Twitch?
For anyone scared about pathing and what mobs to pull.
A small trick I do is I (as an rdps main and tank alt) record my m+ runs and then I save on a different folder the runs where the tank performed really well and I study and memorize his path.
Then when I log into my alt to tank I just copy his path and it works well
Thing is if you start playing late, you can't really learn by just doing normals and heroics since everyone is so freaking overgeared.
i dont even feel like playing after watching this
great video but idk how you didn't have in tank list best in world tank Asmongold
Best thing to do, is jump straight into it. Learn from your mistakes. Fuck up a route? Learn from it? Fucked a boss pull? Learn from it. Ruined some guys' key? Learn from it. Get vote kicked? Fuck em'. Learn from it. Every mess up is a lesson. Eventually, you will be a pro.
I watch Darkmech and Nerftanktv a lot for tips and tricks
Nice to see Tattman getting a small shoutout here. Watching the guy almost made me forget how shitty prot warrior was for almost all of shadowlands...
Tanking is fun.. It does run the risk of toxic players encounter every so often..
I don’t remember tanking being this many steps to tanking lmao
Nerftank, Darkmech for tank streamers.
I'll add them to the list!
Darkmech is great, watched alot of his vids!
@@Sha_IRL Another vote for Darkmech, he's been my go to for all things Blood DK since Legion.
Excellent tips, thanks Sha!
I saw all tank streamer classes except Prot Pally. :(
first tip should've been dont read chat.
Tank/Healer have so much responsability in key to be timed dpser will never understand and you should never listen to these low iq huntard😅
Always read chat. Critical thinking and pure logic makes the difference. Communication is key.
while these are great tips, sadly the playerbase is so toxic anyone who stuffs up even once is abused. Can see why the tank situation is so bad and the players only have themselves to blame
Best tip for New tanks? Get first 100 dungeons Hard flamed, after that go in again. Everything Else comes with practise.
