    I know the feeling of paying to work. I worked at farmers markets for a long time selling vegetables and stained glass everything. When the weather didn't cooperate you were screwed in a lot of ways. I make brass sculptures, stained glass, water color, paintings, prints and clothing. I also built speakers into sculpture now. Colorado is a tough place to sell art. We have some extremely talented artists out here. Like next level and it's hard to compete sometimes. Santa Fe boulevard in downtown Denver would be a great place to sell your art by the way. I've sold many many pieces down there. Go one a first Friday art walk and talk to the owners of all the galleries I'm sure one of them will let you in for pretty cheap. You should think about doing murals on the side of businesses like veterinary offices and pet care places. I think that's where your art could shine and I think that's where you can make the most money with your style. Say out of the mountain towns. It's bougie as fuk up here. I've built a name for myself in Colorado doing stained glass. I live in the mountains of Colorado. The cost of living is ridiculous. There's a lot of very exclusive groups that help each other out here as well so don't feel too bad. It's a different animal out here. Don't let the arrogant artist of Colorado hurt your feelings either. Colorado is full of angry, nasty people. We're not all like that. Like you said let it inspire you to do better. Work on that part of your art that don't look like anyone else. The part that screams you. Good art can only be done by one person. It's almost impossible to replicate someone's soul. You have one obviously! Don't give up on Colorado. You just need to know where to go.
    *I kind of met you at one of the Colorado rock shows a while back. I think you and your friend thought I was trying to hit on you guys or something. Maybe you thought I was trying to sell you something. I had a big smokey quartz I was trying to hand you. I was the crippled guy on the knee scooter. The dashingly handsome one 😂. JK. I was trying to give you a rock for healing because I was aware of what you went through in the past but you guys just giggled and nervously walked by as fast as you could. My intention was innocent and good for the record.

    With your vast knowledge, I’d like to ask a question about screen printing shirts with cheap acrylic paints .. Which gel medium would you suggest for the best success chances?

    • @KrystleColeArt
      @KrystleColeArt  2 месяца назад

      I wouldn’t suggest this, why not just get some proper screen printing ink for the shirts? It’s not all that expensive. You can buy it online lots of places. I mean, if you’re going to go to all the trouble to actually do the screen printing, you might as well use ink that will definitely work out well.

    My first art show was a couple weeks ago. It was a complete failure. I followed all your tips but no one wanted to buy, the last day I lowered my prices a bunch and made a couple sales.

      Sorry to hear you had a bad show, there are a lot of factors involved in being able to make good money at art fairs - matching your art to the right target market, the quality of your art, the way you talk to people, your display arrangement, plus there are things that aren't in your control like what your booth neighbors are selling, where your booth is located at the event, the weather, time of year, and more.
      Try to identify some things you learned from it. For example, with regard to the artwork you are trying to sell, pay close attention to the artworks that people were most interested in (even if they didn't purchase). And then identify which ones did sell for the lower price. If most of your work matches this subject/style/medium/etc, then you don't need to refine the art you are making to sell. But if you're finding that you sold one type of item, and you only have a little bit of them and mostly other things in your booth. You might want to make more art similar to what you sold so that you sell better next time.

    Hi. Quick question, how would you know who the audience is at this event? How would you know at any event?

    As an artist and art teacher, what you are saying is common. Art is a business. To do a business you need a "business plan", before you loaded your truck! First you need to know and understand your target market ... not guess. I would have gone to that show to just look and see what was and was not selling. What was the general prices of what sold? I have had works sold world wide to my target market group. You want to sell cards, painted tee-shirts ... go to a school fair. You want to sell $2,000 paintings go to the Lincoln Centre for Arts or rent a gallery. an example; I was asked to put up some paintings for a Private Catholic school fair here in Sydney (I'm a Yank) ... I realized that such schools had many immigrants from deeply religious backgrounds and not a lot of money. They want to help their school.... buying a painting does that and they also get a token of that support. I priced all my work and local landscapes under $200 and did very well. As I told my students at college, selling art is a business, making art is creativity ... making that distinction is hard, and takes either help or a lot of time and experience. Thank you for your time to post this issue.

      Considering the distances many artists have to travel for art fairs, the time and cost would be prohibitive to visit every event prior to selling your artwork there. There are other ways to evaluate whether the event is good though I discussed some of that in this video and in more detail in my playlist about how to do art fairs ruclips.net/p/PL6-RwCzCStOS2biW5LgtAk-Kka1ibXjE0

      @@KrystleColeArt Really ... I moved to Australia after 9 years in US Army (I'm a Vietnam Veteran 2/502 Infantry, 101st Airborne), before taking a teaching position here in Australia... really far from Washington, Chicago, Wisconsin and Tennessee ... I asked other artists. I called art supply stores and companies in those areas. Even my American Art Director would check out things... I sorry if you thought driving there was the only way... my mistake I should have expanded on that issue.
      I made my living here in Oz (Sydney) for four years just selling art, mostly at fairs, before taking up teaching at college part time, plus I ran workshops for places like Sydney Opera Company, Disney and FOX studios.
      I like meeting and doing shows with other artist as it helps me develop see what they are doing, so part time teaching was fine.
      I'm friends with different artist from around the world. Just got back from England last year after visiting a place that restores Gypsy wagons and all the ornamental art work involved. My wife did a five glass art class with another artist friend I have there in London. We also did a tour of those river boat homes with all their art work designs....
