It’s crazy to me that in season one he was so hard almost cold with his emotions. Not that he didn’t have them, they just weren’t really surface level. He kept to himself and focused on the job at hand. She was meek, timid, kind and soft and ready for her first day of work. She knew what she was doing and tried her best to fit in given the circumstances. And now, here in season 7, she’s hard, cold, and he’s soft and warm. It’s the best character arc any show can do. Especially since Liz did have Tom for 5 seasons. To write that type of detail into a show that doesn’t have to be openly explained and can be picked up by just thinking about it…chefs kiss.
(I'm only on season 7 rn but) they've all changed and evolved with the task force. Raymond starts to learn that maybe just maybe love and compassion are more important than loyalty and fear, like when he cannot bring himself to kill Liz for her betrayal, forgives Dembe covering for her, or when Dembe is ready to betray Red's secret in order to save his imam's life. The whole talk that he's given, mostly by the imam but then by (I can't remember who else but it was about Liz) seems to really have shaken him and his beliefs. With time, he also seems to care a lot about people on the task force, even if he oftentimes disguises it as favors and conveniences. They can come to him when they need him, like when Samar wanted to disappear. Ressler becomes more comfortable with showing his emotions but also begins to believe that sometimes, law has to be bent because there are things where it doesn't apply universally (like when he perjures himself in court). Keen as you said, becomes much more hardened and oftentimes doesn't play by the rules and I'm not sure how much it's on Tom and how much on Red. Aram still is very emotional and compassionate, but he also can be hard when need be. He's been in the field, he's killed, he knows how to handle himself. After his "phase" with Elodie, where he'd go and break a bunch of laws with her, he still does what he believes is the right thing when he's convinced she murdered her husband. Cooper is just chef's kiss of a boss and basically a parental figure to all of them on the task force. Like Ressler, he becomes more "comfortable" with the idea that the book sometimes doesn't have to be abided. Literally willing to sink with the ship every goddamn time there's a need for that, for his team members, because they are HIS PEOPLE. Not just as a term for his employees, but they really are one family, which is being expressed even explicitly numerous times, like when he tells Liz that Rostova and Reddington may be her blood, but they are her family. What's amazing to me is that while Keen seems to to a degree have lost part of herself that was there in the beginning, while becoming much more cold, calculated and also comfortable with just disposing of bodies (like in this episode), Ressler, Aram and Harold still very much have their core characteristics, despite learning to be able to go against them. Harold doesn't allow them to just let Reddington intercept the cheap guns shipment, despite knowing that some of them are gonna illegally get distributed to street criminals and be used in killing of innocent people. Ressler still pretty much believes in playing by the book and is only ready to bend it if it's about survival of his or someone he cares about (task force, his brother in this episode) or I guess maybe when it's a really black and white moral thing involving people's lives and the law is on the black side(?). Aram is still seemingly the only person who grew up in a healthy household and doesn't seem to have ANY problem with letting his softer side out in front of the others. Park's only been in for a bunch of episodes where I'm at so idk about her. Anyway, bottom line is, that's what every good story needs. Characters changing and evolving with the events the story throws at them. And the way they evolve with the Blacklist, despite the show oftentimes being just dumb in terms of its plot and plot conveniences, is a really neat messaging and may or may not have helped me, too, to come to terms with all the love and friendship and unicorns thing. Edit: also sort of off topic but I need to say it: I know Keen and Ressler eventually get together but I cannot express enough how I love, love, LOVE the fact that they didn't rush it. The two of them really do develop a beautiful friendship in the meantime and I'm all here for it ❤.
it is a such sweet scene. i am not talking about ship or endgame here, but I really like the vulnerability between these two here. the dark theme of the show intensifies scenes like that and I love ressler and liz (their characters). they don't open easily after what happened to them in the last 7 years. it's not a be smater than everybody or survive or be manipulative more than Reddington here, it is just a moment between two characters, two canon friends opening to each other. i love that this scene is not about Reddington but we still get to see a deep connection, a real moment between two characters.

I really hope they use this relationship (and Liz/Red ofc) to salvage Liz's character next season. The writing for her has been awful and it's sad because Megan Boone is so lovely and could have created an incredible character if the writing wasn't so annoying. But I do hold hope for her because these two are adorable and she could be badass, rather than annoying.
And that's why she saved you, you might be an island of calm cause there is not much going on in that brain of yours, but you still are, predictable, reliable, loyal and with a weakness for her right from the start even back when he was miffed about her getting the spot he thought he deserved and he did not trust her....
If it happens it will be because she let it happen. Her decisions took her there. Red gave her a million ways out of that storm 🤷 I'm not sorry for her. I'm sad because I'd appreciate this scene more if I didn't think she's contradicting herself.
