I grew up reading silver-age comics. You must remember that the material had to adhere to the Comics Code Authority at the time. (Even though some weird things occasionally occurred.) They were indeed written for children. I do not relate to modern comic books. I do not enjoy reading them. Comics are like music; we mostly appreciate what we grew up with. The opinions on his topic would make an excellent discussion among comic book fans. IMO

Collect your way is 💯honest fact. Not every story is for every person. That's part of the journey, finding what you're interests are. RUclips or social media in general is a different beast and finding that audience is a different journey all together. Sometimes it might not have anything to do collecting or the books, just the communication. Cheers to you sir. Keep on trucking.

I can definitely relate to not being able to get into silver age comics. Reading early X-Men, Spider-Man and FF comics for me is extremely painful because of the exposition and constriction to 6 panels on every page, it’s a real slog. I also didn’t grow up with that stuff so maybe that’s why I gravitate toward modern and ultra-modern titles such as SIKTC and TNHOTL.

I’m 36 and have been reading comics the past 21 years of my life. I’ve always been very fond of superheroes as I watched the cartoons, older movies, and had several of the toys. I basically liked Batman, X-Men, & Spider-Man as a child. However I did not get into actually reading comics until around 2003ish. I’m the middle child and like many younger brothers I often copied my older brother and it’s because of him that I started to actually read some comics that he would get.
When it came to actually reading comics I got deeply invested in DC as I noticed that at that time anytime a list of the Top 100 comic book stories of all time would get published by critics and professional websites that DC would dominate. It also helped that at this same time I joined a comic book forum and became very active.
So I essentially started to check out a good deal of said DC top stories and then read majority of Batman’s stories and as I got more curious and more proud of being knowledgeable about DC’s legacy and continuity I would branch out and try more unique and less popular books. I was astonished by how much I had grown to love the DCU as a whole. Then I started to check out Vertigo and other publishers and such and went from there.
There’s never a certain way to do it. Each person’s journey is different. Kinda odd and sad how you interpreted the fandom and hobby, but it led you to where you’re at now with the hobby so hopefully you can enjoy it more now.

Hey man, I'm ~30 and appreciate you repping the copper-modern 🙌 I feel the same way about old man books! Hopefully this helps out a new collector or even RUclipsr that finds themselves in the same position, maybe even save em some money 🙌
I've had fun chasing keys but it's stuff I genuinely like, first carnage, first cosmic carnage, first Cletus, first Knull, first Miles, first Harley, first Spider-Gwen etc
More frequently than searching for keys I find myself looking for issues to complete stories I love. Trades and omnibus copies are cool and feel nice all collected, but flipping through floppies really does hit differently.
Ok so, the Deadpool movie recently came out, I like Deadpool but I love Carnage- so I picked up the issue I was missing from Deadpool vs Carnage and grabbed the full Absolute Carnage vs Deadpool mini series... It's not spec, but it's still having fun off the hype, ya know?

It was a fun childhood, but just buy what you like. In ‘95 I starting getting the Hot Wheels I had as a kid. Like comic books I don’t buy because other people say it’s hot. I just buy the cars I like, my comic book tastes have changed over the years. I like Strangers in Paradise, I like the Sandman, I like Shade the Changing Man…I still have all my old books. I like buying Absolutes and Omninbuses. All I can say just have fun, stick to books that keep it exciting for you!

The 1976 Overstreet Price Guide wrecked my love for comic books as cool to read and enjoy. Comics became a commodity at age 13. I used to take my momma's big lunch bags and put a comic book in, fold the bag over and tape. I tried to not damage the comics so they went right into momma's bags. There were no bags and boards back then. I love the art and have rarely read comic books post 1976 except for binge reading my Conan collection from #1 to whatever if was at in the 1970s. I have binged read EC books over the last few years. Truly, I went almost 50 years between reading multiple comic books in a short period. In between I had 7 comic book retail locations, lost it all in the early 1990s glut era, to now doing comic slabbing. I focus on late Bronze, Copper. I know microscopically little about current comic books or even comic books post 1994. I've sent well over 1000 to CGC. CGC treats comic books as I like them, wall art!!!

I'm 52 years old and have always loved comics and the characters. I really didn't start collecting and buying comics till Image and Spawn came out. I still try to get the characters I love and collect their books and stories I enjoy. Collecting comics is a perspective of that person and what they collect. No one should try to collect what people say or try to influence you to buy them. It's your hobby not theirs. I know because my collection is mine not theirs so I collect what I want forget what others say you should be buying. This is my collection and I will get what I want not what they say I should want.

I grew up buying only Marvel books. Back then my brother and I would buy Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Hulk books, read them, then spend hours and hours tracing the art on typewriter paper. Goodtimes.
I didn't get back into comics until I joined the Air Force. I was in tech school when Secret Wars was released on 1984. This was a massive hit in the dorms. Everyone, nerds and non-nerds, were reading the same worn out copies. It was not only fun, it made me realize comics weren't just for little kids.
I don't buy or read any Marvel books today, even though it's technically what I grew up with. I prefer the DC universe today. That, and independants. I try not to buy floppies. I prefer omnibuses and deluxe editions.

Mr. Sticky Goose I agreed with many of your points and have experienced many of the same things myself. I will say that although I don't like the older stories much these days just like you I do appreciate them. When I was in elementary school I was fortunate to find some Marvel hardcover books that gave the origin story and a few other important early stories (as well as some text and descriptions) in the school library. I read the origins of Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four as well as some of their early encounters and you're right - those stories were perfect for kids like me at the time. I feel like because of this experience I got to mature as the comic stories "matured" (i.e. with stuff like The Boys in more recent times) and have "outgrown" those older stories. Even stories from the 90s can be hard to read sometimes.

I never thought about specs until I started seeing people on You Tube. But, with that said, I buy comics just for the enjoyment, not to flip. There is no wrong way to collect. Hmm…well it’s kinda hard to tell if you’re being genuine or just sarcastic at this point so I’ll just say …you do you man… that’s what hobbies are all about…any hobby. People on here just want to see your genuine self because if you’re not that then your channels not gonna last. Just ask gem mint

I think (not that it matters) spend too much time obsessing over who's more of a dealer/collector or collector. Read it or don't buy it or don't. Who cares.

I have always collected what I liked and loved and I haven’t got a spidey. 129. The most overrated comic. Ever

Bruh woke up and realised that cave art and always winning mcguffin Batman is boring af, well more you know (-_-)
This why it's so funny to watch beef among boomers that love 1940-1980 comics vs wokies that trying turn everything gay since 2014
    Because sane people reading MANGA...
Welp, i love times when i been reading comics 1990-2014, but then i come to realise that most of readers are hypocrites and want to see their heroes always winning, without any stakes, always saving damsel in distress, hell i hate MJ & Lois Lane... their characters purpose only to be saved by Spider-Man and Superman, and amount of good art and characters being forgotten only to boost sales for Batman - is real crime, Justice League? what a joke, it's just Batman and his pleb friends and Batfam.

Same talking points as most recent videos (lots of whining). You made a video to keep making money off your viewer's wasted time, bottom line.
    Also, no.

You are by far the worst comics content "creator" in the game.

Yet you watched this video and obviously have watched other Sticky Goose videos. Just can't help yourself, can you?😉 By the way, I see from you channel that you have produced no video content and therefore add nothing to RUclips. So you are far below Sticky Goose when it comes to creation of videos.
