Signe I had my colors done with you last year.i am a dark deep clear and my fav colors are blue(sky)and green(nature,trees...)I wanted to relay a story I heard yrs ago about a florist working with Barbara streisand. She was tasked with finding a very particular color for the flowers Barbara wanted planted outside her home These flower(colors)outside had to match the same color as the flowers inside the home .The reason was explained that it helps the eye to extend from inside the home to outside the home.i guess it's more harmony with a mood as well?that always struck with me

Alyssa, never dimm your light. Yellow suits your personality perfectly, yellow is bright like the sun, i bet you lighten the lives of your loved ones. You radiate happyness. Maybe for some youll be to much, but those people dont belong in your live. The right ones will take the loving rays the come from you. So NEVER change just to fill it. Let it be light girl-let it shine!!!❤❤

Just got a Classic Color Analysis done by a professional from the UK and I'm so happy I did! I think I can say I already new my season, I know what color suits me (generally speaking) and what not. But knowling my sub-season and applying it to my makeup and wardrobe is just another level. I have to go out of my comfort zone a bit, but it's so fun and I feel more like myself. Can highly recommend!

Great conversation ladies, I agree that color evokes emotion. My favorite colors are blue and green…all shades of the two colors, but particularly royal blue and emerald/forest green.

A few characteristics of black that make it super popular/timeless:
    - Black is the presence of all colours and therefore it “goes” with all colours. And white is the absence of all colours, so it is literally a blank slate that also matches everything. (Both have other chromatic characteristics that make them technically NOT go with everything, but stick with me. Haha.)
    - Black is very slimming, and that seems to be an effect people generally desire. It creates hard, definitive lines. Technically, any dark colour (navy, brown, etc.) has that slimming effect, but see the point above for black’s chromatic characteristic that gives it the versatility edge over other dark colours.
    - Any intensely saturated colour generally reads “expensive.” Think about how washed out/poorly dyed clothing looks compared to a reach, deep, intense black. Or even a faded charcoal over an inky black velvet.
    - If something is said enough, society generally accepts something as fact/truth, regardless of actual evidence or fact. Like the phrase “lemon water detoxifies your body.” No, your liver and sweat and such do that. And obviously our bodies need water. The lemon adds a nice flavour and a touch of Vitamin C, but there isn’t any scientifically proven detoxifying superpower to lemon water… But it’s been said SO MUCH, people don’t question it. Black is timeless. Everyone says it. So we think it is so.
I’m sure there is also an actual fashion history about the rise of black clothing in modern western/developed fashion (which I think is the fashion culture that pushes black the hardest, over other fashion cultures), but I think the reasons above are some reasons why it has endured socially with the “timeless” reputation.

Oh, I enjoyed this so much. I love your approach to colour Signe. I am a winter colour season. I've always been drawn to the deep jewel colours. When it comes to green, I love all the greens in the autumn palette, though. Also, for decoration, it's the autumn palette, too. Thank you, ladies, fabulous discussion ❤

Back in the '80s when color analysis seemed to take the world by storm, I was designated a "31 color Autumn" because I could rock a deep purple in addition to the earthy swatches of the season. I love a good chocolate brown for its warmth and welcoming vibe, and I think that's what I would hope my personality projects. I definitely think I use color choices in my wardrobe to project energy based on the event at hand, whether it be power/calm/outgoing/soothing. Fun topic!

Ok, here's my personal analysis after some thought. I feel like my personality can be fairly "strong," or "outgoing". I gravitate towards grey, beige, cream, navy etc to "balance " that out! Loud/bright colours or patterns would be too much combined with my strong voice. Also, I want people to take me seriously, despite my sense of humor, etc...
    Great topic to ponder...😊

This was a really interesting episode! Thanks, ladies. I’m curious what you all think of the Ella(?) Ray colour system & the one Ellie-Jean Royden talks about matching different hair/facial colours to different purposes? I like a lot of colour in my wardrobe, and most colours in general. Like Signe, I shy away from neon lime/chartreuse, but also anything “washed out” (except as a home décor background). If I had to choose a favourite colour, it would be a nice soft (denim) blue chambray for calming, but also “dusky country rose”/deep coral pink to be friendly & confident, bright purple (a neutral contrast pop for me), soft & deep burnt orange (makes me feel like someone who travels/adventures a lot), emerald green (gets me compliments at formal events), & warm/bright chestnut brown (cosy, grounding, homely). I like navy too, because like Christina, I realise pale brunettes can actually have soft/mid contrast, but I like pure monochrome outfits sometimes & it’s difficult to find a full suit of pieces in the exact same perfect shade (that stay that way).

I am high contrast and have light olive skin that’s slightly warm and was mistyped many years ago as a winter, but I’m actually closer to a soft autumn (warm and muted) 🍂 I am very close to neutral so I do find that I can wear some cool colours like navy pretty easily even though it’s not in my colour palette. I generally enjoy wearing ivory and cream, peach, coral, soft blue, soft green and mid greens with a bit of warmth to them, navy, mid to dark denim and different shades of brick, terracotta, beige, tan and brown. I also gravitate to rose gold jewellery but have some yellow gold. I find colour analysis interesting but I don’t religiously stick to my colour palette and generally wear what I feel good in and makes me happy 😊

@@luciepaul1270 Yes, but she created a lot of other stuff in black, too, simply because it did suit her. And her design was gamine only, because that's what she was. She really wasn't a good designer, but a clever business woman.

  • @musicalmeg19

I read a book once about the little black dress and its origins... don't remember all the details, but it focused heavily on WWI and all of the young widows in their black mourning dresses. It essentially became a symbol to men that this young woman was not an innocent young debutante but had "experience" and therefore sought after for affairs that may or may not turn into an actual relationship, It then became more of a symbol for sophistication and then the extremely classic color that we know it to be today. Audrey Hepburn's famous black costumes, especially in Sabrina and Breakfast at Tiffany's helped it out a lot too.

Christina, have you ever thought you could be an autumn maybe? I was analyzed as a bright winter 5 years ago, but the typical winter colors made me feel not myself, so I mostly wore black, white, and grey and then I started to gravitate towards beiges and more warm colors. Not long ago, I went to a color analysis again and it turned out I am a dark autumn. I am not the typical autumn as I have very fair skin and high contrast, but now I definitely can see the difference that deep dark colors do to my face vs cool bright winter colors. You love burgundy and autumn greens. That may not be a coincidence. What do you think?

Black used to be considered a color for the wealthy because it was a hard dye to achieve, at least in the 1600’s. I’d say it goes back further than that but the fascination with black in fashion has been a thing for a long time.

I'm a person who looks best in light warm colours. Probably I'm a light spring and I do feel it goes with my personality. When I was younger I felt like I looked good in both black and navy but now (I'm 57) I've decided I look disgraceful in both. Black just doesn't bring anything good to my face and navy seems to be actively fighting the warm tones. I've decided to never buy either colour at all, except maybe black jackets as they're so useful. I love that banana colour Alyssa mentioned, I have a really nice jacket that colour, and I think she looks really nice in black.

I have to comment on Christine telling us she is an Aquarius. Understanding the personalities associated with each of the signs, her choice of colours makes a lot of sense (my husband is also an Aquarius and black, grey and white are his go to…). Has anyone considered how choice of colour is reflective of our signs? Now that would be interesting…(Black is totally out for me and yes, I’m a Sag…somehow that now makes a lot of sense to me). Based on your conversation today, would be interesting to know what signs Alyssa and Signe are. Hhhmmm…Food for thought!

Again, to me, Alyssa is an Autumn (probably deep, so going winter). There is a big mistake in Color Analysis reasonning about the undertone / that nobody can see. Alyssa's skin is cool (pinkish on the screen) and it does scream to get warm colors to nourrish it. It is a complete different approach that Irenee RITER teached me (science of dress). Life is about complementary colors, not about a one tonal direction (Warm OR Cool). Please, Alyssa, if you feel drawn towards Autumn, that's just because you feel that something is right there !!! Don't get mismatched by somebodyelse authority, please... Sorry for the color analyst here 😞

The discussion is fine, but “like like like like” is so grating. The always-wearing-black deal is SO boring, plus much of the population doesn’t look good in black (I do not). Also, it seems to be an NYC thing or maybe Hollywood, people trying to look avant garde, which I am definitely not. I want COLOR! I love my Spring tones of camel, terra cotta, peach, poppy reds, bright blues, aquas, violets, oranges, and daffodil yellows. I love floral prints too, which of course goes with the season of spring, with new life everywhere.

I couldn’t be less interested in discussing colors + have felt that way since this recent wave of color analysis.
I’d witnessed people stress + obsess over this as if it were law, when they were previously content w what they were wearing.
It’s another set of rules for people to try to squeeze themselves into + I’m not for that exclusivity, esp w the world’s renowned stylists stating this isn’t what they base their work off of
