  • This is the full English alphabet with phonic sounds.
    This is reference for teachers and adult learners....IT'S NOT A LESSON PLAN.
    This is the most basic skill needed to learn to decode English in its written form.
    Please note that American accents differ and as such their vowels tend to sound a little different- letters "a" and "e" tend to sound more similar.
    This stage is called "phonic awareness".
    I'll add the blending stage next if people want it.

    when we were growing up we were not taught phonics.. we just learnt letters.. interesting learning method but then now i have to again learn ABCD.... with phonics to teach my kid...Gosh..!! i had believed i was done with this..but here it starts again.. btw our language (Hindi- my mother tongue )has only phonics sound... there is no confusion to learn the name and then the sounds..

    • @JayRichardsonEACschool
      @JayRichardsonEACschool  5 лет назад

      @@milanvaya655 words should be introduced in a correct order do as not to confuse the students.
      Jolly phonics has a word book that will give you words to practice in the correct order. When a word doesn't follow the rules of phonics (that's about 5% of words) we call them "tricky words" and we practice then separately and encourage the child to understand the word is being tricky and it's trying to trick them - they used to be called sight words but now we encourage the child to highlight where the word is being tricky and were it is following phonics rule.

      Thank you for taking the time to message me. I do not have any documents I can recommend as I wanted the actual audio to be the reference material. I am sure you could use the official phonic reference guide for this but it would involve you learning the entire phonic alphabet. Maybe just review individual sounds from this video before you teach. Also, please check out my jolly phonics for beginners video as that would be useful to you also.

  • @miki78m

    Very nice and clear. To diverge a bit. You mentioned s and z as s can sound as z but there is even an additional soft z sound in final s voiced consonant sounds. E.g. spoons, pl. So we use soft z unlike to one in is, which makes that as a third s category of the different sounds. Right.

    • @JayRichardsonEACschool
      @JayRichardsonEACschool  5 лет назад

      The s sound in spoons in a soft s not a soft z. I'm unaware of soft z sound but if i learn about it certainly add it to my content.

    • @miki78m
      @miki78m 5 лет назад

      Jay Richardson EAC oh but the ending letter is n which is the voiced consonant sound, right, thus adding an s to make plural after a voiced consonant sound makes that sound more towards z than s. As in arms, boys, crabs or rugs. I mean you don't pronounce crabs with an s sound but with a z sound.It is a standard English grammar or rule, what I thought. Or could there be a difference between say American and British pronunciation of the final s sound perhaps?

    • @JayRichardsonEACschool

      These cards were not very good as I just borrowed them from a teacher to present.
      Normally, I would not have capitals and lower case on the same picture.
      The font I prefer is called "Sassoon Primary".
      I have another video found the same sounds but with more information and better explanation using the correct Font, please check it out.

    • @JayRichardsonEACschool
      @JayRichardsonEACschool  2 года назад +1

      That's right.
      Unfortunately, many education authorities have given up using phonics in their syllabus and started going back to the old fashioned "whole word" approach.
      It's unfortunate.

    A good video but may I add that it's advisable not to stress the "er" too much on certain letters. Especially L and W.
    The L should sound like UL and W more like OO.

    • @JayRichardsonEACschool
      @JayRichardsonEACschool  6 лет назад +3

      Stevie Rox thanks for the comments.
      Yes, you're right. I kept the schwar sound in but really I shouldn't have because I should have been explicit about the difference between analytical phonics and synthetic.
      I'll try to do another video soon but without schwar and I'll add digraphs too.

      This way to teach the alphabet is wrong. I have a student from Italy and she is saying "ber" (b), "cer" (c) There is no "er" sound at the end of the letter sound.
