Bass fished one cold day on Dam B with my Texas aunt. Kept seeing my bait hit the water and invariably another splash between me and where my bait hit. After 20 or so casts I just happened to focus on my rod tip when I reeled my bait in. I had about a 1 1/2" icicle hanging on the tip. Funny up til that moment I wasn't really cold, but after I saw that I figured it was too cold to fish.
I learned while trapping that the secret to keeping hands warm was to keep my hands dry, ALL the time. Consider getting a box of Nitrile gloves. They will keep your hands dry while handling bait and fish. And if you do get a hand wet in a nitrile glove, strip it off, dry off and get another on its place.
Your not alone Dave, the bite is terrible in my Living room also..... But I will keep trying until about March or April, if nothing by then I will try the river 3 miles up the road.
Well, I got three deer in the freezer. Two with Bow and one with rifle. Now I'm back here with you Dave and in fishing mode. And having a good time learning, watching and laughing..
Dave, knowing what the weather is my old home town there I would have watched every minute of this video even if the title had been "Getting Skunked in the Cold for Dummies." Even though it was colder than a well digger's butt I'm glad I got to go.

Dave, I love you so don't take this the wrong way. But, I mean this video you sound like one of my friends who wants to go fishing and states, I'm cold, I'm bored, why does the boat rock so much! The wind is so noisy. Where do we go to the bathroom. When our we going to catch a fish. I don't get why you catfish when you do nothing for hours for 3 minutes of fun. 🤣
It's a rattle and a float. Dragging weight keeps the line on the bottom. The float/rattle keeps the bait about 1 foot or so (depending on how far from the weight you set it) off the bottom
No bass boats, no jet skis, no big wakes to rock your boat, you got the place to yourself.

Buy Ear muffs, they keep the ears warm yet don't obstruct your vision.
