Back during the initial release of DS, lagstabbing was rampant, as once you hit the backstab, it locks you into the animation...unlike DS2, which treated backstabs like a normal attack that would have to land with that piddly parry/hand strike...I missed SO MANY backstabs just in PvE that I dunno if it was a good change or not...lol...
@@42Mrgreenman i thought that backstabs were an exclusively pvp feature to counter slow weapons, i never managed to hit one on my first playthrough lol
I just started playing vanilla DS2(with DLC), and tbh, the changes made to the timing and mechanics around parrying and backstabs have made me just ignore them for the most part.
It seems like it's almost always better to just be mindful of enemy attack radius and punish them at the end of their own attack animations, which I guess fits the feel of DS2?
And it's probably a better move than DS1 making them so absurdly easy?

If i remember right that was before the DLC or the Scholar Edition, so some things like the Dragon Skeleton have changed since then. But the video captures the nostalgia of playing through a new souls game

@@beckachuu God, Scholar is genuinely miserable to play in so many areas. Lost Bastille and Iron Keep are two glaring examples where the devs went through and copy-pasted ten of the same enemy in a single room.
Vanilla is generally better, but Scholar had a variety of improvements and stuff, too.
Shrine of Amana used to be almost unplayable, cuz the render distance was tiny and the wizards would detect you and start firing from outside it. So you'd have spells just appear a small distance away, already locked onto you.

As much as I love Happy Souls, Dork Souls by Matthew Shezman will always be my favourite.

I'm glad someone recommended this. I watched Happy Souls back in 2016 when it came out and it's popped up in my recommended videos at least once a year since. I always watch it when it does because it was just done so well.

as much as i dislike Dark Souls 2's methods and regret it as my first DS experience, The Pursuer is iconic
