Hey Niara, I believe this happened as a result of a few things. I think the way in which you apply conditioner is not favoring you, you should try applying in sections so that all your stands are equally coated and protected. The corrective relaxer that you did some time ago may have also been a culprit, this happened to my sister who also has beautiful hair like yours. I always say if a relaxer is under processed try leaving it alone and seeing how it performs and if that fails see a professional. Lastly, apply more heat protection to your hair in sections before using the flat irons to ensure even distribution and overall protection. Overall, great video ❤
@@NiaraAlexisdang... That line of demarcation always got me and snatched my hair in my relaxer days and.. I never knew about protein! Ultra-fine relaxed hair with no protein. Recipe for disaster in my case. Now I use protein and Olaplex and my hair stays intact mostly even with heaat damage and bleach. How I know? My stylist spent a over a year cutting heat damage or bleached colour out of my hair hair when in the past it would have just broken off! If I ever go back to relaxer I know what to do now.
Thank you for your transparency. I cut my hair into a bob a few weeks ago because of the breakage and honestly, I’m loving how chic it looks. It’s growing on me ♥️
Love your transparency! That line of demarcation always makes my hair break off too. I tried getting relaxers more often to avoid the textures from ever having to mix but then sometimes I feel like that makes me relax it too much! It's so tricky. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and I trust your hair will continue to thrive after the cut❤
When I was relaxed, that line used to get me too and Inhave ultra-fine hair and back then knew nothing about protein! Hey girlie, I love your channel & I’m saying this with love ❤ if you go to a professional hair stylist your hair will be considered as virgin hair & they will have to do a virgin relaxer because you have so much texture & the pattern in your hair is inconsistent because of the relaxer application. I also noticed how you never smooth your new growth at the end of applying your relaxer. I think you take great care of your hair with treatments and weekly washes but if you don’t do a correction relaxer you may start to see more breakage. If you don’t want to cut your length maybe do layers to get rid of breakage. If you know someone with a cosmetology license ask if they can get you the Olaplex 1&2 I use this my relaxer day & hair dying day & it works so good. I’m not a professional but I have learned through trial & error. Xoxo 😘
You're also doing 3 passes of the flat iron. When you use that skinny comb and pass the flat iron the 3rd time, that 3rd time passing through with the flat iron is on the lower half of your hair. Right at the area of breakage.

I think you need to use more moisturizing products..all the products u are using have protein. The pureology and the Pantene leave in. Switch it up to moisturizing for 3-4 months.
Girl, I was just as shocked as you were. The way you stay in your hair, I didn't see this happening. I had a section like that in my hair earlier this year too. ItIt had been there all of last year too. I figured out that it was due to how I was handling my hair. I can see the back well, so I was blow drying with my paddle brush a little too rough. Once I switched to the tension method, that “hole in my hairline” grew out. Basically you section your hair to blow dry and you hold the roots taught with your brush or even your hand to blow dry. Don’t over dry your hair and you’ll be good. This method takes tension off the delicate ends. Good luck! My other breakage spot up top was literally just underprocessing, so there was no saving it. I cut it like you did and layers are hiding it. 😂
For anyone experiencing breakage what worked for me I switched back to Joico K Pak line also I deep condition with mask/ treatments and I always use leave in and heat protectant….don’t be stingy with your products apply enough so all the hair is coated, infusing strengthening properties in all my steps was super helpful

Hi Niara🎉 Don't cut off your hair. Where there is breakage, continue cutting the pieces where there is breakage. I did the same thing. And my hair grew back. You have a lot of hair in the front. If you do get a bob, get it layered in the back. This way, when you do your signature curls, it's like you never cut your hair. It worked for me. Respect from Brooklyn, NY ❤️.
I would love to see you use Cecred consistently and see if it helps with breakage. It's been helping me reverse my heat damage. I've been super impressed by how well it reverts my hair. I wonder if it would strengthen the part where your two textures meet and save your relaxed hair.
could it be, that when you blow dry your hair in two sections, you can see the back as good as the front. So you may be pulling hair from the opposite side that is tucked away. Cause it seems to be in the middle back, only.
Some stylists think that is breakage from wearing buns and ponytail too much. Roller sets and wraps would stop that. My aunt always wrapped hair relaxed hair and she never had any breakage and it would stay smooth and bouncy. That's said she never relaxed at home.... Her hair was done by the Puerto Ricans. They love some roller sets!
Oh my goodness I found spots broken off in the middle of my head idk what happened so I understand what you are going through you a really good at doing your hair it will bounce back God bless you❤
The breakage doesn't look like protein overload. It looks like the type of breakage you get from wearing your ponytail too tightly or something along those lines. I heard Cecred actually helps a lot with breakage so maybe you could use only Cecred for a month and see if it helps with that part of your hair.
For breakage caused by chemical treatment, some suggest a protein treatment to strengthen bonds that could repair the hair and reduce or stop it from continuing (getting worse).
Thank. You. For. Sharing. I’m the one that shared in the live that I work at a beauty lounge as a massage therapist. I did a consultation with the hair stylist there because of similar breakage. I cut my hair myself on my birthday and got a corrective cut the same week. I’ve delayed on getting a corrective relaxer and have seen breakage in my bang area. I just accepted it and plan going to them to help me keep up with my hair. I thought I was doing something wrong with my routine and it was upsetting because I went to relaxers for ease after post partum shedding. I’m enjoying the hell outta my bob though and want over all health. From the looks of it, we have similar and density. Thanks for sharing and sorry to see it happen, diy hair is a journey
I always have breakage in the front. And like you, I just cut it. Sadly my hair was looking like a mullet 😂, but it’s growing out. I love a bob , can’t wait to see yours.
Hey beauty i love your videos I am inspired to reach shoulder length hair like yours. Agreed with the first comment made. To get the benefits of the hair mask and conditioner apply in sections. Also have you tried an all natural sea moss hair oil. It’s a powerhouse for the hair and scalp. Just a suggestion. Continue with your hair journey
Breakage started happening to me when I had a relaxer and I let a professional apply it each time. I got so frustrated I just gave up on relaxers because she couldn’t figure out the issue. So if she was perplexed, I was like forget it… going natural. 🤣🙌🏾 but you have beautiful thick hair… itll bounce back beautifully.
Same.. That's what me go natural and stop goingbto black salons. My hair was breaking and they couldn't tell me why. I know why now after being natural 15 years and going to white salons! It was an Midwestern American white girl with short pink hair who told me about protein in the middle of England at Aveda! Then my current Polynesian stylist of 8 years introduced me to Olaplex and my Black trichologists told me to moisturise my hair daily and deep condition weekly with a hot towel. Presto litttle to no breakage... Even with heat damage and bleach.... I have internal factors for hair loss and breakage but all the external factors are taken care of.
I don't have the skillset to make sure i don't overlap my relaxer on my ultra-fine high porosity hair. Heck all the black stylist that i had would overprocess my relaxer! Which is why I've been natural for 15 years at Aveda and other white salons. 😢 The hair trauma from professionals.. Smh.. It's different when you mess up by yourself.
This happened to me not once but twice. I cut my hair to a stacked bob. We'll see what happens over the course of the next year. As I prepare for the season of protective styling. I know you'll get your hair right. ❤
One thing that could also be contributing to the breakage is the use of products. I know you like to use a little to keep it clean and light but does the product youre applying cover the entirety of your hair? Or is it being applied to where you first touch your hair and barely getting applied to the rest of your hair you touch afterward? I only ask because you breakage is in the back and the way you apply products heavily favors the front and the sides while the back isnt getting the same treatment. Its kind of like foundation, you either get full coverage or you dont and with hair products and the way they are once emulcified the dont completely cover your entire head unless applied in sections in the small amounts you like to use. It may take a bit longer but hey, health is better than suffering from unwanted breakage.
I learned from my trichologists. They saturate my hair in deep conditioner! Like my hair be white with product! They are not missing spot! I'm not as good as them so i apply it in sections and then use the wide tooth comb to distribute it evenly. Oh my trichologists do not use conditioner. Only deep conditioner with steam. They deal exclusively with people experiencing hair loss instead of hairstyling.
I just thought about this as well. How does your hair fair in the winter months? Know matter how I think I’m moisturizing my hair in the winter it always wants to break off now the summer I’m good, but the winter in Detroit smh!
Same. Likely from hair ties pulling in the middle. Creates a v shape. I for one don’t think you need to cut all The healthy hair just for one section with breakage but you do need to figure out what’s causing it.
Is that section the line of demarc or just not blown out straight front?!? Both sections that have the breakage are where you seem to grip the hardest whèn turning your head and reaching to flat iron (wear and tear). If your pull and grip is forcing the breakage then it won't show in other areas of the hair.
im relaxed and had to cut my hair, at the same length you plan to cut yours, yesterday; due to too many protective styles. It would be so lovely to follow your journey to regrowth as I am also one to love a blunt cut, but I'm on a journey to bra strap length. watching from Jamaica btw 🙂
I have learned the hard way years ago it’s best to wash long hair in the shower, as believe it or not the hair gets tangled and brake off in the sink hole without you even knowing. Until you look at the longest tips and see it’s gone. Lol.
Good morning, do you still use the Hask tea tree oil shampoo? All will be well with your hair. Do you do a leave-in conditioner as well. I’ve been using Crème of Nature for years it strengthens your hair. Haven’t failed me yet.
doesn´t a line of demarcation always occur when you´re relaxed? like theres always going to be a line of new growth hair followed by the straight relaxed hair?
For a period of time yes but what most ppl do is when they retouch they meet that line with the relaxer and make everything one texture again. I won’t be doing that because I like move texture now vs super straight
Hi Niara, I love to see you work on your hair. It is very beautiful. I just want to say that we are all here to learn from each other and i know you are not for protein treatments. I am a relaxed hair girly too, so a week before i relax my hair i do a protein treatment on my hair with the hairmayonaise from ORS. Then when i relax my hair i put the number 3 from Olaplex on my hair too to strengthen it. And the week after i relaxed my hair i do another protein treatment with the hair mayonnaise and my deep conditioning is always in the picture too. From here on out i mix my deep conditioning with one part Moisturizing and with protein and use it like that. The same goes for my shampoo and leave in products. This way i cannot go wrong with using too much protein. And my hair loves it and it is groing and healthy. Just a little tip from a South African/ Belgian. 😉☺️
I'm not relaxed but i have weak hair from being A Thalessemia carrier and neurodivergent stress. I have ultra-fine high porosity hair. I always use protein carefully and bond builders. My trichologists made me stay away from heat and tension and brushes. So I only use them 3-4 times a year with my stylist giving me Olaplex 1 and 2 on top. The rest of the time I air dry or diffuse. I think her hair would do well with a roller set under a dryer...while she drinks wine, eats snacks and watches Netflix. Blowdrying with a seperate brush and seperate dryer is a lot of work, high skillset and most people do not want to do it! If I'm forced to do it, I section my hair into 20 clips and use an all-in-one dryer with round brush attachment.
I’m dealing with the same thing. I just cut mine yesterday, but I don’t think I cut enough. Likely gonna go ahead and cut a couple more inches next wash day🤦🏽♀️ But I have to do it because I can’t stand thin ends. It’s health over length for me!!
Girl i had knotless braids earlier this yr..i was spraying Minoxidil on them..chile i went to take my braids out, my hair was coming out with them 😡 i was sick..i had to do a big chop..thats what i get for trying shyt tho smh..anywho love ur channel & we know u'll get ur beautiful hair back on track dont panic ❤
Girl why were you using Minoxidil? It's to treat hair loss not prevent hair loss. 😅😂🤣🙈 I had kinky twist extensions for 12 weeks from September-November 2024. I shampooed and deep conditioned every week and I sprayed braid spray daily and my prescription scalp mist from my trichologists. The damage is minimal and unnoticeable. I redid the twists extensions myself twice and we didn't put edge control all over my scalp! 😅😅 I really need to know what made you use Minoxidil instead of braid spray on the extensions and Sulfur 8 spray on your scalp. What was the story and thought process? I'm 43 and I already know at my age I can't play around with ageing hair and scalp like that. 🙈🙈🙈 Black women my age and younger be getting hair transplants. 😢😢😢
@marleyhill34 🥴😭 girl dont eat me up damn 🤣 girl cuz i read that it'll cause a lil hair loss but it'll grow it out better..now granted it caused alot of damage but since then my hair bn growing like crazy..yet i promise i wont do that dumb ass shyt again 😭 my hair had grew alomst bra strap then i did some stooopit stuff 🤦🏾♀️ I'll be 45 next month, was dealing with depression from my son passing away 💔 (thats me & him on my pfp) & was losing a lil hair so i thought this wld help 😩 that was my thought process babes 😩 but trust, lesson learned 💯 most of us have atleast 1 time that we have fukd up 😭 mine happened now im back on track!!
@@nikkid1537 when I'm struggling, i let the professionals handle it. My trichologists for hair loss and my stylist for trims. I leave my hair alone when i be going throught it.... And I be going through it often as a neurodivergent person. Condolences for you and your family.
Here's my two cents...I KNOW that you want the length😂 so trim the back..Cut a graduated bob...AND DO ROLLER SETS...Massage back with aloe vera gel+ castor...Will return to normal before you know it❤
Yeah i was thinking roller sets too. Less direct heat and less tension. Hands free for wine and snacks while watching Netflix. 😅😅. My aunt just dubie/doobie wrapped her hair.
I personally stretch my relaxer 6-7 months at a time but not everyone’s can take that long of a stretch, if it’s breaking at the line of demarcation then you are either stretching too long for your hair or using too much heat ❤
Hush dear, it happens. Happened to me last year. Solution, I just cut it. I miss the length, but just give it time and enjoy what you have now. Tomorrow is promised to no man. See ya.
@@BionAvastar3000 It’s probably because I don’t know what I’m doing lol. I have very bad heat damage it looks like perm hair. In the beginning of my journey I had no idea what I was doing. I’m better now though. I’m still trying to figure out how to prevent split ends. My hair is better now.

Yeah I agree. I think taking the time to detangle the hair and apply the mask/conditioner and heat protection in sections would be beneficial
Thanks! The cause of this breakage was the meeting of two textures. The weaker texture is always going to break off it’s just a matter of when. 🤎

In addition you can also check your ferritin levels
I love Pureology! I have used the purple bottle because I have color. It makes my hair soft and manageable. Thank you for transparency.
The L’Oréal Absolut repair line is very good for breakage
I love your transparency
I’m having the same issue, I think it’s the way I’m applying the relaxer and the already relaxed hair in the back getting re-processed
Thank you!🤎
Is there anyway you can cut the breakage and treat it to keep the length?
Me over here in London spraying moisture mist daily... Sometimes twice a day.. And moisture deep conditioning weekly! Winter is here, Hair!
Have you tried olaplex 3? I think that would help strengthen it up and stop breakage
No I haven’t
That isn’t the cause of the breakage but thanks!
@NiaraAlexis Us girls get passionate about a good hair mystery. Lord knows I had plenty of my own.
That’s where my breakage is at too. I thinks it’s something to do with me not being able to see in the back of my head
I just chopped my hair, too. Don’t worry. It’ll grow back.
im relaxed and had to cut my hair, at the same length you plan to cut yours, yesterday; due to too many protective styles.
No I don’t use it anymore only because o don’t have it
@ oh ok I started using it last year because of you 🙂👍
I'm currently experiencing this with my hair at the moment.
doesn´t a line of demarcation always occur when you´re relaxed? like theres always going to be a line of new growth hair followed by the straight relaxed hair?
For a period of time yes but what most ppl do is when they retouch they meet that line with the relaxer and make everything one texture again. I won’t be doing that because I like move texture now vs super straight
Hi I love watching your videos. You have beautiful hair. You put in so much work I would ask a hair stylist before cutting.
No need it’s already been cut 🙃 didn’t want to have gaps all around so that’s the easiest way to start fresh
Always health over length!
That breakage is probably caused by some form of friction because it's in the back. Or your hair is getting snagged (especially at night time).
Not too much heat or long of a stretch just the meeting of two textures
It's the reason i stopped getting relaxers on my ultra-fine hair...
In dealing with the saaaaame thing, Niara
Looks like your hair maybe getting tangled during your wash day. Try washing days in your shower! 😇
This is Nikki Anderson I am not cutting my dam hair
Hush dear, it happens. Happened to me last year. Solution, I just cut it. I miss the length, but just give it time and enjoy what you have now. Tomorrow is promised to no man. See ya.
This is Nikki Anderson my mother does my hair
why don't you switch to Brazilian straightening ? It's better for the hair. Maybe you could watch some Brazilian RUclipsr hair routine :)
😢
Also take hair vitamins
Maybe the dry shampoo every day is a bit much. Our hair needs oil to thrive and I’m speaking as a licensed cosmetologist. But I love the content.
Oh.. Yeah nothing goes on my scalp but regular shampoo and prescription scalp mist. Definitely not dry shampoo. I use dry shampoo on my wigs. Lol! 😅😅
Is because if you relaxed your hair you can’t use the flat iron every washday 😊
I don’t think this is true because I’ve always used the flatiron every wash day and I don’t always experience breakage but thanks!
She uses the flat iron all over her head it's not the flat iron. Otherwise she would have breakage all over. 🤦🏾♀️🙈🤣
Its the shampoo..Are you using Cecred shampoo?
It’s not the shampoo
Lol! If it was the shampoo, it would be all over her head. 😅😅😅 Not just one specific part.
Get a professional trim and then manage it.
Time to become a straight natural?
Not yet 😂
I’m a straight naturals and I have the same breakage in the same areas as her
@@Neesha242 Interesting
@@BionAvastar3000 It’s probably because I don’t know what I’m doing lol. I have very bad heat damage it looks like perm hair. In the beginning of my journey I had no idea what I was doing. I’m better now though. I’m still trying to figure out how to prevent split ends. My hair is better now.
@@Neesha242 It's great to hear that your hair is doing better now! Shanika Corb and
Roxanna Renea are two good straight-natural hair youtubers to watch as you continue your journey. :)
Turn off the water please
Please stop flatironing so much. You are akready relaxed so the heat is too much
It’s not the cause of the breakage, but thanks!
Some people's hair takes heat well... Not mine and definitely not every week. Definitely coarser textures. My texture is ultra-fine and natural and flat iron every week is a bad idea for me.
I just thought about this as well. How does your hair fair in the winter months? Know matter how I think I’m moisturizing my hair in the winter it always wants to break off now the summer I’m good, but the winter in Detroit smh!
