I would like to add a bit of much of what your local guides probably missed out.
Quetzaltenango was and still is of deep importance for Guatemalan social tissue. It is the city in Guatemala with the most history, and whose people have exerted the most influence over the entire country throughout time. Many accomplishments and developments attributed to Guatemala have been accomplished all over the country and internationally by this city's people. It is also one of the oldest cities in Guatemala, founded in the year 1524, eighteen years before the city of Antigua and 252 years before Guatemala City. Quetzaltenango was also an independent state for a span of three years, from 1838 to 1840. (Estado de Los Altos).
The big old building you filmed, where your Spanish school is located in, used to be a single family house. It was built by Spanish Architect Alberto Porta in the year 1900.
The celebration's name you mentioned is "Quema del diablo" which literally translates to "The burning of the devil." One of many religious practices derived from the mix of Roman Catholicism and indigenous religions (religious syncretism).
The costumes worn by the people infront of the church with alot of colors and engravings are called Moros. This dance tradition comes from Spain and it used to represent conversion of native indians to Roman Catholicism, even though in Spain it represented the remembrance of Muslim power in the Iberic peninsula. The last dance shown in the video is just a distortion of the actual Moro Dance.
Hope the information is useful for you and your audience.
