How beautiful this work of art is, and you are so very talented. I totally enjoyed this video. This is not easy in water color but you are a master artist. Thanks for sharing.
Watching you paint this in watercolor, I wonder if you started your portrait painting in oils, because you seem to use similar techniques to build the shadow areas. Fantastic, as always. Thank you
Yong Chen paints so beautifully and seemingly effortlessly. What an artist he truly is!!! There are WN professional paints on sale right now. Can anyone tell me what extra colour paints that I may need in future or ones you purchased yourself please? Thank you.
I was watching so intensely, and was so enjoying the part you were getting to the details then suddenly I blinked and it seemed like I missed a whole lot of the part where you did around the fingers and the edge of her sweater and lot of details were skipped. … That’s the part I was watching for!!!
He didn’t skip very much at all. I think there’s two reasons why…1. If you make it too long on YT nobody will watch it. 2. He’s posting these for people who are painting w/him. (I imagine Patreon would have 100% of the video) but even with that said…if you can follow along to paint the face, you’ll have no problem painting the fingers & sweater. The fingers are just like the face…base wash followed by glazes and the sweater similar to the hair, but w/more dry brushing. He really does give the painters everything they would need if following along. I know you guys that are just watching and not painting feel kinda cheated, but you guys are definitely in the minority where you’re willing to watch an entire video that’s over 30min on RUclips. It’s a shame that content creators have to adjust videos to suit the majority of people who are just scrolling through, watching for 5-10min and moving on. Some creators don’t care and post 3hr videos (Renso…oil/acrylic/pastel portraits) but it does hurt their channel & they don’t have many subscribers. Anyway, hopefully this makes sense 😉
@@cmeblu75 Your comments demonstrate you may have painted portraits. Or, at least you know the importance of second washes plus dry brush techniques and glazes to obtain realism. Still, your comments on why he skips past important parts are guesses. My guess: he had put it away for a day or more but now here is the finished portrait. Chen edits his videos, a lot. I notice how chopped his videos are. For me, Chen could speed up his first washes and second layer. Chen can do what he wants, and he does. Most great watercolor portrait artists like Marcos Beccari drive their followers to a subscription service where they become students. I get it. Who knows what Chen did during those skipped-over parts. Maybe he did some paint erasures or a fix to a mistake. He is a talented watercolor artist. He presents himself as a teacher. Okay, if he withholds some finished parts for patrons; then why not just say so: To learn more become a patron of my channel. At least with that promise, you could have an expectation to see what was hidden.
Amazing…nice… beautiful….. ❤❤❤… of course but am I alone to see that the most important work : the finish of the eyes … is missing and on purpose I think…. A real teacher doesn’t do that !
Yong Chen, your skills are great. I would subscribe to your channel but I know like in this demonstration you will jump your video at important parts like between 33:15 and 33:30 where you have skipped over important processes. BAM, all of sudden her face, hair, and fingers are finished. These skips are typical in most or all of your videos. What's the deal?
These are always worth a few viewings to learn and enjoy, and that was a great announcement, so thank you!
LEARNED SO many things form this !!! THANK YOU SIR!

I noticed that he does these skips in almost every video he posts.

He has older tutorials where you see the whole process.
Full teaching requires payment. Very affordable on Patreon.
