- Metro-North's Harlem Upper Harlem electrification was done in 1984. The Long Island had a like project that opened in 1987. This video was taken on a peak express making just three stops on the trip to Ronkonkoma. The line will soon be double tracked.
Note this IS an M-1 verified by the cab window on vertical (not horizontal track), and no mid-car vent structures in place of two seats.
LOVE this old LIRR stuff
This is a spectacular video, capturing so many cool things that M 1 horn blasting away, the music very cool, Bravo 🙌
How much old footage are you sitting on ? This is great! Do you have anymore redbird footage ?
Wow look at the Bethpage Water tower being built at 3:56. It looks great now. Great video.
I did this commute for 20 years(Long Beach line ) cant say I miss it...and no more bar car! forgetabout it
Only bar cars exist is MNRR.
music that fits this RUNNINGIN THE 90'S
Too new for me, but thanks.
@@trainluvr i thought it fit best
@@trainluvrit came out in 1999 though
Double track is now complete in Late September 2018
2:43 That's the tower you visited, right?
Yes at Mineola, where the Oyster Bay branch meets the main.
cool
At the end, there is an M1 photo at Ronkonkoma from 1988 credit it to RUclips user Train259.
I think his name is "Joe's World of Train's and Plane's." now.
Thanks for this cool video. In my opinion the accident in Valhalla should never of happened. Better techniques need to be in play to ensure that motorists are not able to have their vehicles on tracks . I'm no expert but obviously the arm gate is not enough at these crossings especially in close to the city suburbs where traffic is an issue.
what type horn does the M1 use????
Leslie S44
Peak PM Rush Hour train? If this is one, you had to be on that 5:41 train. Because that's the only train that makes only three stops: Hicksville, Central Islip and terminated at Ronkonkoma.
Miss Jennifer Banks Thats the one. Thanks, toots.
trainluvr It stopped at Bethpage too. Can't believe how much has changed too, Roslyn Road is gone, I had no idea the Bethpage water tower was erected in 1999, Stewart Avenue is now a "Drawbridge" crossing, Lowell Avenue was converted to that (thought it was like that when it was electrified) and all of those billboard at Ronkonkoma were taken down. Plus the addition of Solari Signs, but unfortunately the M1 being retired. What an idiot that guy was when you were going through Mineola, a double meet and he's getting across the tracks with flashing red lights!
trainluvr It not only stopped at Bethpage, but if you hear the P.A system when it's departing Bethpage it says "Farmingdale Next." Crossings in order that it went through:
1.) Covert Avenue
2.) 12th Street
3.) New Hyde Park Road
4.) Mineola Pedestrian Crossing
5.) Main Street
6.) Willis Avenue
7.) Gates going down at School Street
8.) Urban Avenue
9.) South Oyster Bay Road
10.) Grumman Crossing (No longer exists)
11.) Stewart Avenue
12.) East Great Neck Road
13.) Lowell Avenue
It didn't cross Roslyn Road, South Road, and Broadway in the video.
3 Xmas
Matthew Kowal Thanks for the info. I wish there were more active viewers like you.
no such thing as a 59 min ride now miss that
What Month and Date was it in 1999?
Love the horn.
Intro is great for LIRR hitting things
+Jim Quinn (Maniacmen) 2:38
10 mile Main Line from Floral Park to Hicksville, 10/03/2022, three bi-directional tracks
Which time points in the video would that be between?
1:58-4:12
M1 are the best long Island railroad Trains 🚆 😢
I agree, but 'most beloved' more accurately describes them.
need to find ways to reduce or eliminate all those grade crossings, they are an accident waiting to happen. Yeah, the train can smash through a car but put a loaded dump truck or cement truck in front of it and you'll have a disaster. before electrification the LIRR used some of it old cab units on the rear of push/pull trainsets as the push cab, at least you hit things with a locomotive either way, I never liked riding in a cab car, some years ago the MARC train into DC proved me right on that.
Wait was it a m1 or a m3
The mid section of the car is all 2 and 3 seating so its an M-1 I was riding.
Ok
The 5:41 out of Penn right?
Definitely, otherwise you wouldn't see the East River Tunnel or Sunnyside Yard on the Main Line
Nice video!!!! But the wheel flat was a little on the irritating side.
Flat wheels were common in this stock.
@@trainluvr They have become common on the M7 nowadays.
I love the time frame, I started riding these things in the late 1980s..but I really don't like the M1 and M3s. Low-back seating, stinky airplane style bathrooms, and overall discomfort. The only plus is their ice-cold AC.
... What about the m7s now do they suck like yo papa
1:05 FOUR CAR M1.!?
Sounds like a lot of flat wheels on these trains...
Bruh the comments smh.
Why he or she was horning lot
She, all vehicles are a "she"
Lots of grade crossings for warnings
Yes the rap really is bad can you reupload with out it
That sounds like a fouled ass RS2M. Correct me if i’m wrong.
To those who can’t accept the author’s taste in music-get a fucking grip and respect other people’s tastes.
Leslie S44 on the M1s
Like the video but that freakin rap so called music makes it suck!!! I couldn't watch the whole thing.
Shall we hold a funeral for your sense of humor? Oh wait, can't mourn the loss of what you never had......
The rap singing at the beginning and at the end, with all the vulgar lyrics, completely ruined an otherwise good video.
Yeah well you can't please all of the people all of the time.
No it didnt ruin the shit vid
could do without that silly music
Another negative comment from the peanut gallery of folks with no content and no subscribers. The video wasn't made for YOU!
Stfu, we all know that song, ur just lost
The "music" SUCKS!!!
Thanks Mark, your opinion is valued. Was there anything about the video that you liked?
Yes, I liked the trip down memory lane when the LIRR MUs still had a "Railfan" window...
@@markemanuele1929 no u suck
I like the intro to the video the song goes great with it kinda reminds me of Unstoppable/Taking Of Pelham 123.I'm a big fan of Ludacris anyway
