First round videos come out... Everyone complains about no commentary.
Second round videos come out.... Everyone complains about Avery's commentary.
Gotta love people
Can't wait to watch the final round. I was in suspense watching the live scoring this morning. Thanks SpinTV!
Wow what a up and down round. Thanks for the coverage :D
Okay - I've just got to say: Please Avery, for the love of suspense and pleasure, stop hinting (or saying outright) that a player is going to make their putt. This MUST stop. I want to enjoy the experience as I watch. Every time you say they drill a putt when it hasn't even left their hand - it ruins the whole production.
Otherwise, thanks for all the time and energy you all put into this fantastic disc golf coverage!
Avery does a good job on commentary.....it's nice to have a play by play by someone who knows disc golf.....good vid.....can't wait for final round
Hahaha did Ricky have a seizure at 30:19?!?! All in good fun, amazing round by all the players and I can't thank SpinTV enough for this really crisp coverage. I think Mr. Jenkins is going to get into the commentary element with future content! I am excited for it all!
Appreciate the work you do to knock these out!
Will someone tell avery how to use the word 'nearly'
haha
He "barely" got it right.
Or "Drop In." ... "Drop in birdie." (uphill from 30' out - a shot we've all seen Avery miss dozens of times) ... "Drop in."
Riiiiight...
Ha!
I was just about to say the same thing.
Great stuff! I love the fast turn-around! Can't wait to see how this plays out for the final round!
Thanks for the great coverage!
My favorite commentary team is Sexton/Lizotte.
Simon has a dry sense of humor and doesn't talk too much.
There is nothing wrong with some silence, especially when there's a beautiful drive to look at.
I'd say do some simple play by play, and only add to that if you have something worth saying.
Please. Avery. We don't need constant play by play commentary. We are watching it. I'm watching these videos with the volume down until you improve.
Please Justin. You are mixing word "we" with "you". Until you learn how to use words properly I'll ignore you.
Tune out then Dude
I was trying to mute the video and turn on pandora. I was unsuccessful :( This commentary would be good if I was doing something around the house while watching.
Thanks gentlemen - very much appreciated.
Avery is a great guy, but he doesn't add anything to this video at all. He doesn't have what a good commentator has - or he wasn't provided with the correct instructions, or was just left alone in the booth. We do NOT need a play by play, or description of the shots as they happen - this isn't radio, after all!
A commentator is there to provide what we DON'T see; and it works best when TWO people do the commentary. Check out how CCDG work. Yes, they are more informal than what your target seems to be - but they are emotionally invested in the coverage, and allow themselves the latitude to discuss their own feelings, and thoughts about the players, the course, the shot choice and the disc selection.
What's with Avery's confused use of the butcher's term "Center Cut", which I have never heard used before in disc golf? "The middle of the fairway" is the correct term. Then there's his use of the term "Long Putt" when he's referring to putts at the circle's edge or just beyond. Hell, I can make those putts - and for this card, a 10-12 metre putt is not "long". A decent putt is 15+ metres - and we expect a good portion of those to be successfully drained by these guys.
A Long Putt is one which is unlikely to go in.
I understand the process of creating content is one of continual refinement. And the refinement you can make next round is to pair Avery with someone, and give him some proper instruction for his time in the booth. Tell him not to talk in such a monotonous way. Have a loud foil - someone like Barsby - who incidentally, is an excellent commentator, as is Nikko Locastro.
Chris Davies - I couldn't agree more.
Not only do I agree with all of this but you can also tell that he has a complete man crush on Ricky....
Agreed. Sucks to have to mute these. I'd rather no commentary than this.
yeah, its like he talks in bullet points. Instead of just relaxing and talking about the shot.
High hyzer
stable disc
inside the circle
easy birdie
...ugh
I agree. CCDG has the best videos/commentary.
Did anyone cover lead card round 3? Thanks for the coverage Spin!
They got front 9 of final/3rd round up.
So how does McBeth tee off and walk around effortlessly but has to stradle putt because of a suppoed knee injury?
He said some where that he can practice more straddle putting because it takes pressure off his knee.
Anyone else see Paul using and Anthon destroyer? Still waiting for his new in the bag to see if this is something he will include and why he would be using it verses the swirly ones he had last year or a newer brinster destroyer.
Did you tell Avery he was doing commentary for a radio broadcast?
I'm hoping that with experience the commentary improves. I respectfully suggest that no comments are made about how good the shot was until 'after' we see the actual throw. Not cool, IMHO, to be told that the putt is going in/missing before it was thrown. It takes away the drama.
Hey Avery, not every putt is a tap-in or drop-in! :P
Good commentary though, great video!
no joke, that 15 foot uphill put from the dungeon that Karl had was no tap in.
when will the final round be up
can Jenkins not use sentence fragments every time?
haha
thx :)
"Simon Lizotte known to be a very good putter but woow he can drive a disc aswell" Wtf Avery..?
is round 3 coming today allso?
yes
+Mike West thanks alot! :)
+Miksu La you're welcome.
i wish round 3 are comming today :P
it will
hope today :) just the wrapup..will not watch that ;)
Every once in awhile, Paul has these off days.
Not very often.
What a rough round for Paul.. =[
Seems quite a portion of it was the different putting style. Lost him at a minimum 3 strokes and possibly even more since he is known for sinking putts outside the circle at a fairly high success rate compared to others.
Come on MCBETH
Avery, what do you mean by we will need to check with officials to see if Ricky's upshot on 10 was in bounds? You're watching the video, just skip ahead. You don't need to make false drama to keep people interested. Anyone watching this already likes the sport.
Also, I realize this is the European Open but why are you using metric units of measure? Are you not an American? Nobody back home knows what 11 meters is.
Good job reading what we all see on the screen also. Try telling us something we don't know.
I'm not trying to be a dick but I hope this can help future commentaries.
Excellent coverage!
My critique is that if you are commenting on the discs they use, comment on all players, not just innova and discmania. I am aware that is what Avery throws and I know DGWT is Jussi's thing and he is discmania, but seems a bit one sided and if you want this to grow bigger that should change some. I am NOT salty, just my critique, I like innova discs, discraft and trilogy plastic.
The video work is excellent but the style of commentary isn't my favorite. We can see perfectly well what is happening on the screen, yet the commentator is simply describing what we can already see. It adds nothing. Where's the insight or analysis? Sometimes the commentator tells us what will happen slightly ahead of the actual action, which ruins the suspense of the moment. And a lot of repetitive phrasing too.
It's like American coverage of Wimbledon, where the commentators seem to feel an urge to fill every moment with some utterance, as compared to the British commentators, who actually let you watch the event and only interject at the odd moment. I think it brings the viewer closer to the action, without the commentating becoming so intrusive.
I would prefer if SpinTV would let the viewer watch the action a lot more and if there's something intelligent to add here and there, then that's the time. How about a version without commentary as an option at least?
Agreed. They are using tripods and it shows. The camera work is much smoother.
No emotion either. When one of the guys went OB, there was no surprise or anguish in his voice. He just kept talking... In four words bursts... About what we see... On the computer screen... Things that have happened...
Where is Jamie Thomas?
Writing limericks for USDGC? Testing a new four digit separator? Who knows.
Avery, I appreciate everything you are doing for the DGWT, but please cut back on the commentary. We do not need a play by play as we are watching it.
Note for future improvement. Delay your commentary til they've putted. "Ricky making easy work of this 20 footer" before he's even released his putt kinda kills the suspense.
You have to understand that he was walking with the group during their round and then the commentary is added later during editing
+KeenOne Best oh no really?? Totally thought he was commenting live and just knew ppl were going to make a putt or throw ob before they did it..... Yeah, no I understand the commenting was added which is why he should wait to say what happened til after its happened. Thanks though mate
Cool , you can see Avery in the gallery in some shots on video during the round. Also you kinda have to be quiet on the golf course
While you are entirely correct, this makes for an even poorer excuse for the released coverage. Yes, the commentary is added post-recording during editing. Why then, is the commentary ahead of the footage - causing spoilers to the actual coverage?
PLEASE.....for the love and growth of this great sport we call disc golf......better commentary!!!!! (i turned off the sound less than 10 mins in) , i love Avery, but he needs to NOT do commentaries. He makes it seem that disc golf is sooooooooo easy. Everything is just a tap-in, easy routine shots....sorry Avery but not everyone is a 1000 rated player! These guys are GREAT players and what they do is NOT routine for many people. Everything else is great....thanks for the great video coverage!!!
Love Avery Jenkins, but I'd love some more color commentary... Some insights, strategy, anything. It's just Avery telling me what my eyes have already seen. I muted it 15 minutes in. Just became so monotonous it ruined otherwise great coverage. Just felt like that awkward college sports caster, "Boom goes the dynamite."
Paul may want to drop the "Mc Beast" moniker. He may have sold too much of Himself.
are you serious, he won the tourney on the last day with a 5 stroke deficit at the beginning of the round.
.
Fuck you ? Bryce Tanner
+luftisbollen Jesus christ that is no spoiler, tell you dad we landed on the moon.
How is that not a spoiler (for people avoiding internet updates)?
The "Routine" 400' drives, "easy routine" 300' upshots and "drop-in" 30' putts in windy conditions kill it for me. Why would a commentator ever evaluate the performances of world's top players to be easy or guaranteed. If I didn't know how difficult these feats actually are, I'd just question why they even bother doing the mundane task, and would see no reason to watch the coverage.
- Messi. Routine dribble. Past two defenders. Ties it.
- Steph Curry. Half court. Easy three.
- Ovechkin. Tap-in breakaway. Scoring.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
