  • Today was the first day that the streets in our neighborhood became passable after all the winter storms we have had. I became antsy to get out and do some railfanning in Kirkwood. I particularly wanted to shoot some train videos with the snow as a backdrop. Here we start with an eastbound Union Pacific coal train. Next we see the eastbound Amtrak "Missouri River Runner," led by AMTK 182. The Amtrak train was running about 40 minutes late today. Next we see a westbound empty coal train gliding through Kirkwood. Finally see a westbound UP Manifest(train I.D. QNLNP) working its way past the station. The westbound Amtrak Train #313 to Kansas City was scheduled to arrive just minutes after the UP manifest slid into the distance. However, due to a derailment in the vicinity of Grand Boulevard, near downtown St. Louis, the Amtrak train was cancelled, and passengers were taken to their destinations via bus. The derailment also threw a "kink" in the schedules for freight traffic on the UP Jeff City Sub. After hearing of the derailment, I finally decided to call it a day and head for the house. Enjoy!!
