Google needs a total round about in its product strategy. The pIxel phone needs to sell many more units and it should practically be able to compete with that of Samsung's offerings. But it is unable to. The issue is the marketing and design of the products. Google needs. A lot of changes and needs to start making a lot of revenue from hardware and make a big shift. As the privacy regulations are getting tough worldwide. In no time Google might see their advert revenues going down. Thereby the shift is much needed with a very well thought out strategy.
