Your first painting is really lovely. I like that you demonstrate the use of the paints instead of just swatches. And now of course I'm interested in both shinhan paint AND the brushes you used 🤭

This was a really good review! Your choice of paints - getting both transparent and opaque colours - was really insightful. From what I've from reviews of Mission white class paints, which are another watercolour gouache hybrid, one of the selling points is that it dries with less cracking than regular gouache and reactivates better, making them well suited for a dry gouache palette. Of course, I've never used a watercolour gouache hybrid paint so I'm just guessing. Thank you for the great video!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you found my review informative! :)
I see, that's interesting! then Shinhan pass might be very similar to Mission paint that can be very suitable for a dry gouache palette, at least using the transparent colors because they don't crack that much (always assuming that all transparent colors from Shinhan resemble watercolours paint like the ones I bought) so yeah this might be a good reason to get this paint! for those who likes working with dry gouache/watercolor in pans for example! :)

Buy a tube of white gouache paint and you can turn any watercolor into "gouache" paint. I do it every day when I need a color not in my gouache set. Or when I need to tint a gouache paint, I just use my water color paints to tint or tone.

I loved your little paintings, they turned out beautiful. Great review. I think I might like these hybrid paints. I tend to use watercolor too thickly though but I am gradually learning to use it more transparently, and it does look more beautiful when used correctly, but that way of painting does not seem perfect for every subject.

Is it? What is it a hybrid of? To my understanding gouache and watercolour are very different in how they are made, even if the ingredients used to make them are very similar.

well, gouache it's said to be a " hybrid " between acrylic and watercolor but still, gouache is very different from both mediums with different properties.
And even if gouache is similar to watercolours as being both water-based medium with similar ingredients used to make the paint, gouache is a opaque medium so the outcome and finish look you achieve it's very different from watercolours

Grazie Sandra, I've been curious about these paints for quite some time so thank you for your review. They look pretty nice but personally I'll stick with classic watercolor ( or guache). The thing that put me a little off is the consistency of this paint but the colours are pretty though.
I really like your paintings 😍

Thanks for this frank and unbiased review. I have always been somewhat curious about this paint and your review confirms for me that I don't need to go and buy them XD. I'm not sure what the benefit is of making a gouache/watercolour hybrid as you can already use both mediums together and get the best of both worlds. I feel the same about acrylgouache. Its name is misleading. it is not a gouache at all, but rather a matte acrylic and so it behaves just as an acrylic paint does. Don't stress about the quality of the work, it's clear to all of us that these are quick sketches to allow you to assess the paint.

Thank you Marta! I've also been curious about this paint like the Holbein acryla gouache, to understand what makes them hybrid!
I'm also still thinking what is the benefit of this paint, but compared to acryla gouache they definitely felt more like a hybrid between the 2 mediums , but still more a gouache paint than watercolours (and I totally agree with you, acrylic gouache is simply a matt acrylic and not really gouache), but I guess this paint might be good for someone new to water-based medium so you get a felling of how both watercolours and gouache perform, or as talked in another comment this paint might be suitable to use for a dry gouache palette (as the transparent colors at least they don't crack), but yeah you can get the same result by just using both gouache and watercolours if you already have them!

Thanks for the video- i had been wondering about buying these paints. Although they seem like nice quality paints, it looks like i can just use what i already have in watercolor and gouache, just combine them! Maybe these would be great for someone just starting in water-based media. Thanks for the review!

    • @sandraruberto8806

I'm so happy to hear my review was helpful to you for deciding if buying this paint or not! :D
If you already have gouache and watercolour yeah definitely use what you already have!
and I'm still wondering to who recommend this paint, but as you said yes they could be great for someone who is new to water based-medium! or maybe someone that uses watercolours already but would like to try gouache, Shinhan might be a good transition that gives you an idea how gouache works since the quality is good and this paint is actually not too expensive!
so if you like gouache, next you can buy good quality gouache from other brands! :)

@@sandraruberto8806 They might make good travel paints, especially for plein air painters who might not wish to carry both watercolour and gouache?
