Absolutely wrong. The British took control of Palestine after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. It's job wasn't to make everything perfect for Jews or Arabs in Palestine - it's job was to manage the territory that had been under foreign control since the 70 A.D., and try to prevent it from immediately collapsing into a genocide (probably of Jews, not Arabs), as was occurring elsewhere in the power vacuum (Assyrian, Greek and Armenian genocides occurred exactly at this time, post-WWI). It wasn't their job to leave everything perfect. What were they supposed to do after just finishing an unparalleled war? They had an obligation to the world to try to hold things together. Unfortunately, WWII was always in the cards. Zoom out.

@@benb6527stop defending the British. Stop acting like they’re innocent. It IS their job to bring peace. They fucking colonized half the world, genocided millions, starved their subjects during the war, and now the war ends and they’re the victim and it’s not their responsibility to being peace?

The title is true! The UK is responsible for many crimes as a colonizing country. Like many others. And should come clean for her crimes. But compensations is another problem, can children be responsible for the crimes of their parents?

May to December 1945 would have been a good time for Britain and the USA to have enforced a two state solution. The people of Israel and Palestine could have been living mostly peacefully for the last 70 plus years.

@@stevenblack7928 read Barbara Tuchman’s epoch-making history of the start of WWI: “The Guns of August”, specifically the chapter: “Goeben, an Enemy then Flying”. She explains how the Ottoman Empire got itself involved in WWI on the German side. This led to war with Russia, Britain and France and the dismantling of the Ottoman Empire to the Turkish rump state we know today. In the course of that the British ended up with control of the Western part of what is known as the “Fertile Crescent”. From that follows the Balfour Declaration, the British mandate of Palestine, the splitting off of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the partition of what remained of what the Romans(!) called “Palestine” to a Jewish and an Arab state by the UN in 1947.
But it all started with that fateful decision by Enver Pasha in August 1914 to afford protection to the German battlecruiser SMS Goeben and flaunt the applicable laws of war prevailing at the time. You can view it as a Greek tragedy, if you will, in which each of the protagonists goes toward his inevitable fate without realizing it and without the ability to do anything about it, all conditioned by this initial, fateful decision.
