Hi Devin! You're a better content creator than you're giving yourself credit for. I really enjoy these ride alongs and your commentary and observations.
Thanks! I was in a bit of a slump lately, not feeling inspired to make more content - but honestly videos like this make it worthwhile. I Appreciate it!
19:20 FSD and time-of-day turn restrictions is a topic I’ve seen very little discussion about but is a real consideration for many like myself. As near as I can tell, this is actually something that could be easily addressed with proper mapping data and wouldn’t necessarily need visual sign recognition. Waze for example (and maybe others) do take those restrictions into consideration when generating routes to destinations. Unfortunately the mapping data Tesla uses apparently does not. As this topic affects my daily commute, my workaround is to manually set a favourited waypoint destination that takes the car down the proper route so it doesn’t attempt a turn where it shouldn’t. The trick is remembering to remove that waypoint before the car tries to pullover at it. But anyway, once again it is all about the mapping data and how it is a real Achilles heel for FSD right now.
There is the argument that you want to the car to be able to drive really well with limited map data (map data can be bad or missing altogether) and train the system and then add in better map data in a later stage. Better map data might mask mistakes like not reading speedsigns etc. so first you train the "brain" and then when it is good enough you give it a great map.
Last week I got FSD 12.6.3 on my HWD3 2023 Model Y and what a difference. My usual drive encounters manhole covers that are not placed well (not in the center of the road but slightly offside) every other FSD always hit them dead on and unfortunately some are reassessed by over 4 inches which results in "a very bumpy ride". This latest version not only steers around those, but other issues like large puddles of water etc. Much less aggressive with speed changes and braking. We had a dump of snow in Sechelt it seems to be handling it well.
Hi Devin, keep the videos coming, Doubtful there is much difference between V13.2.2 and V13.2.6. Wish Tesla would provide specific software changes. Looking at the issue at 25:05 it looks like the Sun may have had something to do with it?? Looking at the lines on the road, they mostly disappear and become a dashed white line. The rendering on the screen confirms this. Hopefully you keep the windshield near the front cameras clean. There was a lot of glare on the windshield. In any event if a car had been approaching in that left lane I doubt Mr. Tesla would have moved into it. What is the name of your Tesla? Your new video setup looks great, audio is very good. Your narrative is spot on, not too much dribble, just enough to keep me watching and understanding. As you would say, PERFECT! Keep up the good work! Tommy at Utah
@@tom1788 haha I do say perfect way too much 😂 everytime I edit I think that to myself, but always forget the next time I’m out driving. Appreciate the comment though, I’ll definitely get out and film more - thank you! I agree; I wish Tesla was a bit more forthcoming with what is actually in the new updates - I also wish they were more transparent on how the update rollout is coming along. I’m always wondering if the update is paused or if I should be expecting it to pop up in the app any day. I could see the sun and poor road markings definitely playing a role in this, but I would have thought the car would understand with all of the other vehicles driving in that lane that it wasn’t a turn lane.
That left turn was definitely weird! As you noted it looked like it used that oncoming lane as a turn lane lol. I don't think it would've done that had cara been in that oncoming lane. Strange tho. Good vid as always. Didn't mind the hyperbolic thumbnail lol
Thanks for the thumbnail feedback! I agree the car wouldn't have done that if there was oncoming traffic - I still just think it's a bizarre move by the car, hopefully it gets fixed soon. Thanks for the comment!
13.2.6 seems to be out pretty wide now, except for you and me. On the AI4 Reloaded board (4.5 - the only board available for repairs now). I suspect that current AI4 will require a retrofit of the new front camera and upgrade to the 4.5 board. This should be pretty easy and nothing compared to the AI3 camera/new form factor upgrade. I'll bet even AI5 will fit in the same form factor. They got burned with HW3 retrofits once already. Also, the GoPro linear mode looks much nicer IMO. Somehow sharper and more "intimate". And why do I click on your thumbnails? You're a cool creator and easy to listen to. The content brings me back.
The HW3 update would be prohibitively expensive unless it were done at Tesla's expense - which would only be for people who purchased FSD. HW3 to AI4 reloaded (or bespoke board) replace all cameras and add the front bumper camera. A lot. HW4 to HW4 Reloaded with added camera, probably $1000 (guess) at the service center or free if you purchased FSD. All just guesses, of course.
@ you think just 1000 usd? it would be worth it i think. Does that price include the washer as well. Wouldnt they need to redesign the bumper as well though?
As far the cost of the motherboard, I'm spitballing a motherboard with two Samsung CPUs Mass produced with 16G memory plus camera, cabling and mount. The bumper, if it needs to be replaced, would probably be taken from Juniper stock for MY. Not sure for M3. I've purchased FSD, so will go for free, but more for $1000+ without material benefit. They might do an upgrade path where you buy Lifetime FSD and get the upgrade free.
Your content is great as is, but one idea I could think of is, take a snapshot of your FSD visualization of the most notable moment of your drive every video and set that as the base thumbnail if the video pertains to FSD. Keep it nice and organized and on theme,
Cheers, thanks for that idea! I may do that in the future if I end up getting an HDMI output for my screen. As it is using the GoPro footage to enlarge the screen makes the quality a bit 'muddy'. I feel like the thumbnail would look somewhat low quality if I just had a stretched out FSD visualization.
18:18..I disagree with FSD . it ends being a sharper turn. There is nothing wrong with a slightly wider turn which is more comfortable and anyways you are making a left in 400m or so. Now supposing the oncoming traffic car made a left as you were making right. now he is in your blindspot if they accelerate. and then you have to slow down and change lanes which is not ideal. what if two cars made the left turn. just going gently into the left lane directly off the right turn is better.
Hmm I just googled it and the law is ambiguous, which I didn't realize. It says you do not always have to turn into the first lane "Multi-lane roads: On multi-lane roads, you may need to turn into a lane that's not the closest one to allow for traffic flow or to reach your desired destination." I had no idea that was the case to be honest.
@@CanadaFSD I think that ambiguity is for if the closest lane has parked cars or is an HOV lane. FSD not making the wide turn is much safer as it allows the driver turning left to turn at the same time.
But in the real world, people make the wide turn all the time for convenience. It would not pass on the driving test though (unless it was a parked lane/hov)
I intend to get an M3 Highland in about a year (probably a lightly used one) and keep it for a long time, and I did find myself getting a bit caught up in HW4 vs "4.5" vs 5 thinking but tbh, these HW4 cars look like they perform well enough for what I'd care for; not to mention that there is no FSD in the UK yet and most of what I want seems to come with lane centering and TACC anyway
I PERSONALLY would wait to see what they do about the front bumper camera on the Model 3. I have to imagine they'll release a model 3 with a front camera similar to the 2026 Y and the CT... but I could be wrong. I guess if you're from the UK the FSD stuff doesn't matter as much.
I bought a Model 3 LR AWD late March just after they came out. I'm very happy to have it. I use FSD regularly on most of my trips. While a front bumper camera would be nice for parking, I don't mind DIY parking, mainly on lots with angle parking.
@@CanadaFSD That is a good point tbh. I like the front bumper cam on my current car but it gets completely covered in dirt very quickly in winter so I'd hope they've got self cleaning if they do it. FSD should legally be allowed to begin operating either this year or next year in the UK so it may be a consideration. We'll see.
I click on your thumbnails regardless of what they are because I took delivery of a new Tesla and am impatiently waiting to get off factory firmware. stuck on FSD 12.5
