Teaching Kids The Guitar With The Fast Track Fretboard system , AKA Training Wheels For The Guitar is a fresh way for young beginners to learn the Guitar
These are available on the Kids Guitar Dojo website
If you're not sure which guitar to use please see the video on
What's the best size guitar for my child.
These colourful markers are simple road signs designed to catch the students attention and assist them with fretboard navigation. They wont damage the fretboard and easily fit on 1/4 size, 1/2 size and 3/4 size guitars.
With the use of quiz questions , gamification and games kids are encouraged in a natural progression. They remove the markers as they become familiar with reading tablature, rhythm notation and the fretboard in general.
They come on a sheet like this depending on what size Guitar you have
There are five stickers on each sheet.
Think of The frets as railway tracks and we are focusing on using the first five. We use the tips of our fingers to push down on the strings just behind the fret. Squashing the emojis if you like as they push down onto the string with the very tips of the fingers.
So the first step is to lay the guitar on its back on your lap with the neck aiming to the left-hand side.
It's a good idea to bend the sides of the paper so the stickers are ready to remove.
Once you have done this you're ready to start putting them on.
So let's start with FRET 1 you can see they are numbered so carefully peel the sticker off. Make sure the number side is facing you - take the other end with your right hand and thread it under the Strings and use your left hand first finger to collect the other end - it has a sticky surface, now you can pull it through and up towards the Strings. Make sure the top is touching the strings so you can slide it along on the fretboard.
So you've got the sticker in your hand it's pushed up against the strings and now you can slide along the fretboard and position it.
The reason you pull it up towards the Strings is so you can manoeuvre them into position freely without them sticking to the fretboard . Once you arrive at the first fret we line it up parallel with the fret .
The white surface area sticks to the back of the neck and acts as a border to help you line the stickers up against the side of the fretboard. The idea is that the strings line up to the middle of each emoji.
Once in position let it place it self on the fretboard. Now twist the sides around to the back of the neck and the sticker is attached.
You will see clearly the number 1 to indicate the fret.
Remember that you're placing the sticker on the left-hand side of the FRET not on the right hand side.
Now we can move onto FRET position 2 and do exactly the same thing for frets 3,4 and 5.
You I have the option to trim off some of the white sticker material on the back of neck area This doesn’t seem to bother most kids but it's an option.
Peel each end back and trim a few cm off the white area- don't trim off the numbers though - just cut below the red line.
