Thoughts little rubber cover you said were so you don't hit the window are actually to put over the buckle, so it doesn't put a whole in your boat. I've actually seen a gentleman do that. I'd have told him, but I wasn't there when he loaded. But thank you for the help. 👍👍
Great video. I would suggest making an updated version of the video though, including product suggestions for transporting a canoe using a car/minivan/etc.
After pulling down on the strap I tie the two half hitches right below the buckle rather than down at the rack as this prevents even minimal slippage should the buckle slip or totally fail.
Thanks for the instruction. I have that sherpak kit (6 straps +4 foam blocks) and the bow and straps are ample with the hooks at one end. They (2 each) are so long, they are unwieldy. I'd hate to cut them. I make do, but it's clumsy.
Hi there, Great video/instruction. The trucker knot helps a lot. I am just wondering what those rope clips you used on the bow and stern lines were initially. I have not seen them before with a pull lock and hook...looks to make tie downs a lot easier. Let me know as I'd like to pick up a set. Cheers.
I'd recommend you tell your audience to try and foresee unanticipated accidents happening. I was loading a kayak once, and I sat one end up on the car in the middle of the top. Then I lifted the bottom end up and swung it towards the rear of the car. The kayak suddenly slid off the top, and along the side of the car on it's way to the ground. It knocked off the drivers side mirror on it's way. Well, Damn !!!
I’m considering buying a 13 foot canoe to strap on top of my 2012 Kia Sorento LX. Vehicle has 3rd row seating so it measures out to about 15 feet. Canoe I’m looking at weighs approximate 96 pounds. Any comments or thoughts?
I was loading this way on factory rack that came with my grand caravan drove 600km back from a trip, I stopped to checking everything hour but my $3500 canoe still fly off the rack 20 km from home, smashed on highway divider. Actually canoe still attached to the rack it was the rack detached from roof rail. Better run the rope through the car door.
This is kind of funny, considering that I've carried a 95 pound canoe on a Mazda Miata. (yes, that is a convertible. And yes, the convertible top frame CAN handle it)
Your gonna want to obtain some roof rails, yakima makes really great ones but the best route is to find some pre-owned ones in decent condition cause new ones can be expensive
I wouldn't attach BOTH a bow line AND a stern line. One in the front prevents air lift, makes the police happier and PREVENTS structural stress to the boat. Otherwise excellent!
Yeah, instead of promoting straps with rubber buckle sleeve (that most straps DON'T have), it would be better to say that throwing the buckle end is the WRONG way to attach straps (of all kinds -- even ones with rubber protectors).
To hell with the rope I like the straps better and use the rope for emergencies on your canoe trip if need be like tie the canoe to a tree to secure from losing during a pop up storm with a lot of wind because it can happen !!!
Great video - truckers hitch is a revelation.
I cringed at 2:30. Thought he was going to break his window
Ok?
Damn fine video. Five Stars. Trucker's hitch is a great addition. Works in soooo many situations.

Hey, great idea about using the bold under the hood. I'm going to use that trick.
Thank You. A RUclips video that was actually informative and helpful. Well done.

What RUclips was ment for 👊🏾.
Thank you ✌️
The webbing is good idea if no ancher points in front,i made wide padded hooks under wheel arch, does the job for me
That last tip is awesome because I don’t have a good connection in the front and rear of the car!
Great video! How long is the Canoe in the video? Also what canoe holder did you use specifically? Thx
Helpful! I just dont have that special thule foot for the roof rack
Just attach your ropes right at the edges of the canoe on the racks, so there is no chance for the boat to slide slide to side👍
Better than I expected
very informative video, looking to buy a canoe and advice on transporting and any other tips very helpful...Thanks
Hi there,

Nice video, thanks. Where do get that little ratcheting or self-tightening hook that you used to cinch the rope? Is there a name for it?
Friction strap
Mans sent that buckle over with the confidence of God
Thanks for the nice, helpful video. A question: can I carry a canoe on a small car like my Nissan Micra?
In this scenario, how long and how wide is the canoe and how wide is the roof crossbar?
I'd recommend you tell your audience to try and foresee unanticipated accidents happening. I was loading a kayak once, and I sat one end up on the car in the middle of the top. you might want to watch this again and listen next time about the blips he put on each side of the canoe.
what type of roof racks are those?

Well that's a scary story.
Is if better to run the bow and stern lines through the painters or the handles? I've seen both ways
Yikes! 2.31 that window was done for if not for the forethought of Thule! :)
Or you can just open the doors.
@@travelingwithrick or the windows
Thank you for showing me how to do it by my self.
I wonder where I can get this roof rack to carry canoe?
Yes, which brand or type is this roof rack?
How many hook did you need to rope to the front and back of the car?
good video thanx i learned some things that have key importance to it, good job !!!
Signed it just to tell you this was a great vid!!!!
Thanks
Thanks
Thank you! I have been considering getting a canoe and wondered how realistic it was roof transporting. This put that to rest.
hey, do you still use those black thule side supports even if you don't use the thule straps?
Hahahaha. I have a Toyota Matrix also! Thanks for the video!!!
You can also load it so the top is pointing up.
Great video; very helpful and informative. Thanks!
Very nice tutorial!
any videos or info on loading two canoes?
fantastic video! thanks
This is kind of funny, considering that I've carried a 95 pound canoe on a Mazda Miata.
(yes, that is a convertible. And yes, the convertible top frame CAN handle it)
What if you don't have any roof rails on your SUV, how do you prevent scratches on the roof when doing it solo?
Your gonna want to obtain some roof rails, yakima makes really great ones but the best route is to find some pre-owned ones in decent condition cause new ones can be expensive
thanks you solved my strap ''noise'' problem (Bzzzzz)
Lmao now i need a tutorial on how tf he did those damn knots!!!
There are many tutorials here on RUclips that should be helpful 🛶

Sweet baby Jesus you could have helped him. Hahaha good vid
You're suppose to Throw the end without the metal attached :D
how long is the canoe
16ft
Good stuff, gracias.
so now lets try the methods with my jeep... not lifted... mu frikin roof is higher than his car with canou 🤦🏼♂️ believe me its a struggle
nice video
2:28 is the kind of thing I would have done when I was like 14 that would have gotten my ass chewed out by my dad.
I literally yelled at the laptop when I saw that lol

Thanks 👍🇨🇦
actual tying down begins at 2:30
C O O L ! ! ! Thanks!
excellent. Thanks!
He sounds like the host of the Red and Green show... with some better methods, of course.
Red would have duct-taped the canoe directly to the car.
Do the truckers hitch 4:16
nice! time to paddle!
one of the oldest youtube video I watched and it teaches.
To hell with the rope I like the straps better and use the rope for emergencies on your canoe trip if need be like tie the canoe to a tree to secure from losing during a pop up storm with a lot of wind because it can happen !!!
This time I'll use woodprix instructions to make it easy with my own hands.
Woodglut is a good solution for every woodworker.
2:28 - 2:35 Hahahahah!!!!
Stodoys plans help with such details.
Crack my window at 2:29
I am sure you will find a good way to do this on the Stodoys website.
🇵🇬🇵🇬,.,.,.
Cool nots
You tooks 5 mins and more to teach others how to transport a canoe rediculous
Are there any guidelines to how long you car needs to be in relation to your canoe length?
