Derek, I don’t know what they were teaching you at this 2 month DVC salesman class, but you made an A+!!! You could literally sell me anything! I’ve never been to either resort but been to Hilton Head many times. It’s literally the halfway point for us between our home and WDW! Great show!
Even for a couple with several computer science degrees, the PHD in Disney necessary to figure out vacations is a bit much. We are planning Aulani and Hilton Head in 2025, but hoping the stop offs at Disney Land will give us our theme park fix 😊. Four resorts off our bucket list in 2025, Vero will have to wait. Thanks for the discussion.
I have stayed at both HHI and Vero. I prefer HHI because the rooms are better and the local campus is fun. i have a love for a good shared beach "party" house. and we enjoyed walking across the little pedestrian bridge to all the restaurants. Also HH is a bikers paradise. Kids love the bike trails (very safe and not on the road) So many golfing options in HH area, too Vero has too many bugs for me, love bugs and no see'ems.
Absolutely loved this episode❤️Love all of your episodes….but today especially you made me want to pack my bags from the CT beach coast and head down with my family, hunker down and just disconnect from it all….We haven’t been to either resort but hope to do one in the near future…as always….Thank you guys❤️
So, my family became DVC Members at the end of 2021. Our Welcome Home stay was Aulani, which was 🔥👍🏽🙌🏻. Earlier this year, we were blessed to be able to experience Hilton Head (Jan) and Vero Beach (May)! They were BOTH awesome for all the reasons that everyone shared! SO HARD to choose! Great show! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I have not visited either but I booked a Vero Beach stay last summer for my son and they fell in love with the resort. They are going again in June. I cannot wait to visit!
I love you guys! Keep the videos coming. We absolutely LOVE Hilton Head and own two contracts there. We also have a Saratoga contract. Our thought was having a home base at the beach and the parks. We do want to go to Vero, but our issue is we typically get a 3BR Grand Villa in Hilton Head so we have to lower our expectations for Vero as we know we won't get a cottage at the 7 month window. We are VERY spoiled by DVC as we travel as a group of 6 adults (our children are grown) and everyone loves their own space. I'm thinking maybe only my husband and I go to Vero😄
I’ve yet to visit Vero but I very much look forward to doing so. I absolutely love Hilton Head. I travel from the Midwest and enjoy making it part of a low country getaway. Fly into Charleston and stay there for a few days. Amtrak to Savannah for a few days. Uber up to Hilton Head for a few to finish off the trip. Fly back home out of the Hilton Head airport. Perfection.
We would stay at Vero Beach for 3-4 days before or after Disney World and it was great. Not too long to get bored but enough time to kick back and relax. I’ve never stayed at Hilton Head.
For me, we have severe dietary needs, so exploring little shops and restaurants is really not an option for us, because there is no guarantee that my daughter can eat safely. We specifically choose Disney because of their allergy accommodations. We can't wait to visit Vero Beach and put my phone down!
We went to Vero for the first time this summer and are headed to Hilton Head next week for the first time so I can’t say which we prefer, but we did find the same things with Vero that you all mentioned. It’s great for a chill trip, particularly if you are in a villa and plan to cook or if you have a car and don’t mind driving to dinner. We do wish there were a few more food options closer but as long as you are going there knowing those things aren’t close, it’s a relaxing trip. Hopefully we find HH to be just as great but in a different way!
we love our Vero points. Derek actually got us a buyer for our BC contract and are closing on that toward the end of Feb. We may just use that $$ to buy more Vero. For us, the 2042 expiration isn't an issue as we will both be in our 90's when that time comes along 😂
We love Vero Beach Resort over Hilton Head Resort because of the onsite amenities and direct beach access. Plus, the nature area across the highway. FYI-Vero Beach is only a 15 min drive (8.3 miles) north of the center of Vero Beach with numerous shops and restaurants including Mulligan's Restaurant on the Beach!
I absolutely LOVE Vero Beach and the reality is that the maintenance is actually about the same as other DVC properties. Let me explain. 7 years ago for my 50th birthday, I wanted to rent a 3BR Villa for my Birthday Weekend, the 3rd weekend of May. I remember that It cost me about 150 points to stay from Friday to Sunday at that Beach Cottage. Today, maintenance works out to $2079.00 or just $1039.50 per night. TRY RENTING A SIMILAR BEACH HOUSE FOR THAT PRICE ANYWHERE!!! Conversely if you go with the spot that has the LOWEST maintenance, the Grand Floridian, it's 300 points or $1135.5 per night. You might say that it's about the same price, except that if you were buying a contract with that 3BR Villa in mind on that date, you would need a 150 point VB contract currently averaging $7800.00, vs the Grand @ 300 points is averaging nearly $50K. Since on average you need DOUBLE The points, you're going to end up paying about the same in maintenance. Another example is how sometimes I'll take my wife to VBR on Mother's day and stay for 4 or 5 days. An Inn Room works out to just 50 points for Sunday through Friday, where a similarly sized Studio at GF, Poly or even Riviera is about 17 pp night or about 85 points. So if you were buying a contract on those basis, with Vero you're buying a 50 point @ $3K, then $693 in 2024 maintenance ($138.60 per night) and at GF it's closer to an 80 point @ $14K then $605 in 2024 maintenance ($121 per night). If you're looking at the number of points you need to stay in certain sized rooms it works out the be about the same. With VBR you generally need a MUCH smaller contract AND the contract is WAY LESS per point, with GF you BOTH need a BIGGER contract for a similar stay PLUS the cost per point is MUCH more money. In the end though the maintenance with both is actually very similar.
Appreciate your logic! I own at HH (and SS) since the dues per point is greater at HH I try to only use my HH points for HH because it seemed like a waste to use them at WDW. Even more so when you factor in the # of points needed are slightly more at SS depending on time of year. So to be clear from now on I will consider # of points needed + cost per point. Especially if I decide to add on or stay where the points per night is higher 👏🏽
@@kimesparanza8993 Exactly, people never seem to factor this in. It's like with the new DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness. During Christmas a Cabin, which sleeps 6 is only 32/36 points weekday/weekend which works out to 388/437 per night vs say at Copper Creek, which sleeps 5 at a 1BR Villa is 48/54 which means you're paying $385/$436 per night at Copper Creek! Essentially you're paying about the same PER NIGHT in maintenance. The difference is that if you're wanting to go every year for Christmas for let's say from Sunday to Sunday at Fort Wilderness you would only need a 204 point contract, vs at Copper Creek you would need a 318 point contract. This means your up front cost at Fort Wilderness is 46K, vs if you could still buy Copper Creek direct before it sold out you would pay 71K. Sure right now you could get copper creek on the resale market for less, but eventually you'll see the same for Fort Wilderness. Everyone LOVES Grand Floridian and Polynesian low dues, but that same week AGAIN would be right around 400 points! So you're STILL paying about the same per night with the difference being that UP FRONT @225 per point you're paying $90K! DOUBLE what you pay up front for Fort Wilderness Cabins! Don't get me wrong, I'd rather stay at OKW, the Cabins isn't my thing, but when I see people saying that they're not buying the Cabins because it doesn't make financial sense... due to the high maintenance, they're not really thinking this through. If you need a smaller contract because the points are less per night then what's the problem?
We've tried three times to go to Vero. The first time Disney cancelled on us due to some rooms being taken out of service. The next two times we cancelled because of my husband's health issues. Will fourth time be the charm? Hoping for Jan 2026. That said, Hilton Head has our heart. We own there and it's just the most peaceful, relaxing place. We always ask for a room facing the marsh and love to just spend hours out on the balcony watching the wildlife and the tide come in and out. I feel more at peace there than anywhere else in the world. Add in the exceptional dining - many places are within walking distance - and Hilton Head wins for our family. Still looking forward to Vero though!
Great fun conversation. 24 year member but have never been to either resort. I have always considered them to be that fallback location if WDW ever becomes “done.” However, I am not sure that will happen before 2042!😉
So two things just for an update haha I live in the HHI area. We just moved here about 6 months ago. Amy, Nectar on the Island unfortunately closed. However, there is a better location (IMO) in Bluffton about 20 minutes from HHI. Also, HHI has a Sea Turtle Patrol as well that does Turtle Talks and such. You can see the nests taped off on the beach pretty often :-)
We stayed at Vero for about a week one summer b/c Vero *also has a TURTLE WATCH program (it is seasonal). The Turtle Watch was twice a week (Wed and Sat) and is a night time experience. Cast members nicelly tutored our group about sea turtles, then handed out night goggles and led us on a midnight walk on the beach looking for turtles. We did see one or two. It was a great experience! We also took one day to drive to nearby Kennedy Space Center and that was pretty cool too! 😄
We have stayed at both HHI and VB. We’ve been to VB during all four seasons. We have family in the area so we stay at DVC VB when visiting. We do like the VB resort but HHI is hands down the better of the two in our experience. We are owners at HHI and go ~2x a year mostly fall and spring. The comparison below is based on our latest visit to VB which was Xmas 2024. 1. You can get a real 2 bedroom at HHI. At VB, because of some very odd choices made by the designers, you can only get a 2 bedroom with one bed in each room. They made it so you could not fit two queen beds in the second bedroom. The second bed could be a murphy over couch unless of course you are on the 3rd floor like we were. No murphys on that floor due to,again, odd design choices. The ceiling is too sloped for pulldown beds. One of the adults in our party had to sleep on a pull out. Not happy. 2. We got to hear all the noise from Jimmy Buffet highway all the time - Room 1444. You do not hear any highway noise at HHI. It’s on its own island! 3. HHI, like most DVC resorts, have towel dispensers around the pools. Not VB - you get to stand in line just to get towels and to return your towels. You have to stand in line at Ebb and Flo to get anything needed to take advantage of the amenities such as ping pong, corn hole, mini golf, shuffle board, etc. These can be some serious lines. At HHI the shuffle board, mini golf, bean bags for corn hole, etc are all out for you to use. Much less standing in line at HHI. 4. Don’t forget your key card if you need to use the bathroom while at the VB pool. Yep, you have to use your key just to use the bathroom. Not the case at the HHI pools. 5. Only regular coffee is available at the counter service at VB. I wanted a cappuccino with my breakfast. After ordering my breakfast to go I had to go up to the Green Cabin Room in the main building to get it. It is poorly staffed in the mornings and takes forever to get served. Example - our son ordered a london fog and a danish. Got it 25 minutes after placing his order. This is in addition to the time he stood in line. Tide Me Over is a one stop shop for espresso drinks and breakfast. 6. What is with the sink choices in the master bedroom? There are no drawers and barely any room around the sinks for your stuff. You get two small triangle cut out shelves in the room with the pedestal sink and no drawers in the cabinet sink in the room with the bathtub. The sinks in the 2nd bedroom are much better than the master’s. Again, poor design choices. 7. Our bathtub started to leak into the tub at VB. Drip, drip drip, noise all night. In the morning called maintenance and was told by the tech that if they were to fix it they would need to shut off the water for the whole building!? Apparently they didn’t put in cut off valves for the free standing tubs they installed with the refurb. The other sources of water in the villas do have cut offs but not the tubs. What were they thinking? Since we were checking out the next day we told them to wait. 8. The HHI beach is absolutely amazing. The narrow one in VB is no comparison. 9. Bugs at VB - fortunately even though there were signs up in the lobby and bug lotion at each entrance, no see ums were not an issue this visit. However, we have been at VB in the summer, fall and in the spring where we would have to slaver up every time we go outside just to not get covered with bites. We have not had that experience at HHI.
Been to both. No competition...hands down goes to Hilton Head. Resort nicer, more updated, have 2 options for bay side or beach side. Beaches 100% nicer at HH. Area amazing. Unfortunately I won't be going back to Vero.
I think at least 3 nights. It goes quick. 3 nights allows a beach /pool day. Plus a day to explore the resort a little more and or go into the town of Vero Beach.
Vero is our favorite for the view from an ocean view inn room. That said, last few times there, we didn’t walk on the beach much due to smelly seaweed just blanketing it, plus the beating it has taken from Mother Nature. The noseeums can put a damper on an evening stroll. Still, it’s a favorite place for us to go to chill after a WDW trip. We’ve done Hilton Head just once and it was off season (February). Other than Shelter Cove, we drove everywhere. Not bikers, not golfers, and felt that we struggled to find things to do in the off season besides eat. Loved the Hilton Head rooms and cast members. Now that Shadow and his handler are not there, the ambiance isn’t as special. Shame. Also wish they had a sit down restaurant like at Vero. If we have a few extra points laying around, you bet we’ll grab a few nights at Vero.
I want to echo what Jeff said. We probably would have never stayed at either of these resorts or ones nearby if we weren’t DVC members, yet we can’t imagine missing out on them. I’ll add Aulani and Grand Californian to that. Not sure we would have been to Hawaii or Disneyland at all without DVC! It’s truly magic!
We belong at both and love them equally. Unfortunately many of the cast members we fell have made them so special are gone because of retirements and cut backs.
Anyone else look forward to these every Monday am?
Very much so!
I had no idea Jeff used to be a police officer. It tracks with his humor. From one Disney fan brother to another , thank you for your time in uniform.
Hilton Head is amazing. The whole island is great. But more than anything the cast members are incredible.
Derek, I don’t know what they were teaching you at this 2 month DVC salesman class, but you made an A+!!! You could literally sell me anything! I’ve never been to either resort but been to Hilton Head many times. It’s literally the halfway point for us between our home and WDW! Great show!
Without watching this, HHI is the winner in my heart ❤
Never knew Jeff was a cop. As a fellow retired NYPD Police Officer, thank you!

My home resort, Hilton Head. Hands down, best cast members in Disney.

It’s good, better, best. Better is used when comparing two.
Perfect timing for this episode! I just rented a few nights at VB for June!
Me, too. Paid cash for a couple winter nights at Vero. Will be our first visit there. Excited!!!
Drive 15 minutes south of the resort to the town of Vero Beach for some great restaurants and shops. My family really loves El Sid Taqueria.
I love you guys! Keep the videos coming. We absolutely LOVE Hilton Head and own two contracts there. We also have a Saratoga contract. Our thought was having a home base at the beach and the parks. Great points from Jeff about HHI!
Almost as effusive for Derek for Vero as BWV. That says a lot!
My family is excited for our first stay at Disney’s Hilton Head this summer ! Now I am thinking Vero for summer 2026 😊 Thanks for a great episode !

I haven’t stayed at either. But now that I live in FL, I really want to try Vero maybe a long weekend etc
Haven’t been to Vero but been to HH 5 times. We are not ‘sit on the beach for hours’ people so HH offers so much more to do.
For vero you drive 20 minutes north and you’re in Melbourne beach. You don’t have to drive an hour
My original home resort was Vero before upgrading to Old Key West.

Hilton head also has fitness area at the beach house.
There are rocking chairs in common area verandas at AK lodge
Hilton Head is the reason we bought DVC.
How many days at VB is recommended. We love the beach.
I think at least 3 nights. It goes quick. 3 nights allows a beach /pool day. Plus a day to explore the resort a little more and or go into the town of Vero Beach.
VB has the best room class (beach cottage). Also VB is lousy with golf courses. Didn’t care for town of HH, so many strip malls (in 2013 anyway).
Easily Hilton head… way to many biting bugs in vero
Vero is our favorite for the view from an ocean view inn room. That said, last few times there, we didn’t walk on the beach much due to smelly seaweed just blanketing it, plus the beating it has taken from Mother Nature. The noseeums can put a damper on an evening stroll. Still, it’s a favorite place for us to go to chill after a WDW trip. We’ve done Hilton Head just once and it was off season (February).
