    Hello James from Sydney.
Fire spotting and early intervention is key, this is evident by the California forest fires. Deployment of air attack aircraft for suppression. Moreover, helicopter water buckets: right on top of the fire.
    Merry Christmas

I’ve got 2 coyotes living under my pellet shed. Logic dictates I should run them off, but since they moved in the groundhogs are gone and there are no kids, cats, dogs or other vermin coming down to my end of the street. Also no deer eating up my wife’s hybrid plants. Grounded due to weather and holiday for a couple week. Planning on flying north up the Hudson, just for fun, tomorrow before the rain moves back into the area. Thanks for sharing.

Ah, Blue Canyon... where all the local TV reporters go to show you it is snowing. :-)
Lovely tree colors and light snow, James. Thanks for the view from above.

Nevada Co. Has very hostile surroundings for engine failure on takeoff. There's been some discussion in the aviation press about altitudes for turn back. 60 years ago I found a Cessna 170A could do it at 400 ft AGL. Recently I've pondered a manoeuvre whereby when obstacles are cleared a heading 30 degrees off runway heading on the downwind side of any crosswind is taken. A turn back becomes simpler and even if it's not completed arriving somewhere on the airport property seems preferable to those trees. Talk it over with Juan and the others.

Thanks, Lee. It's the age old question, I think every pilot asks when they're about to push the throttle in... When it's safe to turn back. I figure I have some hope of a return at 600', but that depends on many things, wind, weight, temperature, type of failure. Yes, not a lot of great options, but rwy 25 has the 'best' options, which is one reason I never take off the other way. There is one other field over to the left, now that developers just took away our best option by building more bloody houses off the end of 25. I also do a very close-in pattern, so if something happens in the pattern, I can always get back.

Very attractive terrain and the afternoon light and snow reflections made for some stunning shots of your beautiful machine. Was that a private observatory at the Blue Canyon airstrip?

It belongs to the Sacramento Astronomical Society, I think. There are quite often astronomers out there when I visit in the summer evenings.

James, I really enjoyed this video. I love the natural ambient sounds while flying. It’s quite soothing and the scenery is breathtaking. Thank you again for sharing your aviation experiences. Keep up the good work and fly safe!

Loved the video; beautiful scenery! Quick questions... is the tash a Movember thing or a retro 70's change of mindset? LOL... Say's the man with a rather fulsome fullset as they used to say in my military days.

Haha, Ken, Movember is a charity event in the Uk, where dudes grow facial hair for a good cause. Or should I say, a ‘fulsome fullset’?! This was just a bit of fun, have never had one before!

Beautiful leaves against the snow, which we don't get here in Albuquerque. I just saw good exhibit on Ercoupe origins at College Park (Maryland) Aviation Museum, while visiting parents, near where I believe your Ercoupe was built. Great stuff, reading about locals Fred Weick and Henry Berliner, seeing an Ercoupe on display.
