    Some reasons why new is not always better with games:
    - We love the sounds of this game because they are repeditive and take us back when we hear them. They remind us of what we are doing. Modern games music and sound is dynamic and typically doesn't allow for this.
    - Visually we are working with drawn iconic artwork. Modern day games "'cheat" typically with 3d animated models that can appear cheap.
    - Game play is direct, point click, fast pace you were always in complete control. Modern games try and emerse you in a fog of different movements. Crawling, running out of breath, swaying... It's a chore to play them.

    • @mrorange159
      @mrorange159 6 лет назад +2

      Further, to make a better Duke. Take the game and just improve the resolution and artwork + add more levels and perhaps a few more features, guns etc. But don't change the engine and sounds

    I remember when my cousin installed the shareware version of Duke3D to my computer. It was a total turning point on my gaming - that was somethig completely new and cool. Trash cans that can be kicked, working mirrors and giving wad of cash to strippers.
    Great memories.

      To be fair, at least the N64 version had the courtesy to actually *add* some cool stuff while taking away others, so it isn't just "here's Duke Nukem 3D except not as good."

      It wasn't good because they took a retro icon and turned it a 2010's game. It was as good as a Call of Duty singleplayer mode. In other terms it was average.

      Dr Doom Bagel, Duke Nukem Forever was originally going to be released in 2001 on Duke Nukem's 10th anniversary and it was going to be as good as Duke Nukem 3D but better.
      When 3D Realms canceled the 4th installment, it was redeveloped in 2011 on Duke Nukem's 20th anniversary and it sucked because of the new ideas and gameplay.
