@@BortaMaga We aren't exactly talking about the model themselves, we are talking about how the characters are being appeared on the screen with the stage behind it. The problem with Tekken 7 is that characters at time blend in with the stage to the point that trying to focus at them gets straining and annoying. The main reason why I modded out the volcano stages with the ones that has a different colour filter to it in T7 and hella turned Post Processing off. Adding rim lighting alleviates this issue. This is also the reason why I like Tekken 3 so much, although it's unintended due to hardware limitation. The characters pop out more and is very distinctive against the background. Even Ogre stage being the worst stage for this example, but because of how they light it up, the characters are still readable.
Crazy how even though they are pretty much silhouettes and yet their animations are still more clear and easier to read than all of MK's animations. Though with that said I'm glad the actual product doesn't look like this
Note: The reason it's dark because the light comes from the other side making the front appear dark I was only getting around 12 fps with a 3080 nearly on 4k so using dlss on balanced barely made it to the 60 fps mark. You can see some animation jittering because the frames are dropping and not matching up.
Hope Epic will fix the performance issue from Lumen enabled as well as adding an option to customize colors of its shadows and brighter, that way Tekken 8 will had better lighting like this
Oh nice, they're not unnaturally lit up like a cheap studio. I get it, for competitive reasons, the characters should be lit well, but this looks so much better for gamers just wanting to enjoy the visuals. This looks more like the trailer reveal now!
@@HeavySandvichGuy1 Exactly that's the point, we need options for higher graphics today if they have the spec power and interest to do so. This should've been included in this game at launch, otherwise they Ubisoft'd us.
Yeah..the developers used pre-baked lighting for the character models. If you pay attention to how the models look in their intro poses + winning poses compared to during gameplay.. you'll see they look a significantly less detailed during gameplay.. This is mainly due to the pre-baked lighting the developers use for the character models..instead of using UE5's lumen. I recall Murray saying he didn't think it worked well for Tekken.. probably due to character visibility..plus they didn't design their stages with lumen in mind (which they should've). They only used Lumen for Jin and Kazuya's showdown fight in the final chapter of the Story mode. Fighting on the same stage outside of story mode doesn't provide the same level of detail..obviously.
It looks perfect if you enable the character lighting but tone it way down to be much darker but still adding visibility to the characters in a dark scenario
Is there a way they could possibly apply this to maybe just super ghost battle or other offline modes. And disable it on online play? If its possible then they should absolutely implement it.
You need to tweak the lighting and Lumen parameters to get a bright enough look. (releasing lighting presets soon for each stage, this will also include optimized settings for Lumen) Also, Epic Lumen targets 30fps and High Gi targets 60fps. Lumen reflections are not worth it.
I kind of wish the Story Mode was more like this. But I feel like they couldve been more creative in game. On stages like Yakushima ot lools fine but on Midnight Siege the difference bwtween the ingame lighting and the Intro/Outro lighting is significant.
Probably for performance's sake. As seen in the video, an RTX 3080 is barely able to pull off a stable 60fps, and that's with DLSS enabled. An RTX 3080 is not a new card by any means, but it's also no slouch.
Don't... your PC will genuinely overheat... it will absolutely ruin online play as well due to the unstable frame rate. Even this guy's build is barely pulling off a stable 60fps with DLSS enabled.

It would probably need a light source coded as coming from the player's pointof view so they don't look in shadow all the time.
