If I'm being honest I thought Kazuya was more difficult just because after the first laser it's lost all surprise so you either crouch or run behind him while he's flying leaving him completely open.
To think that Kazuya went from cursed protagonist (T1) to conflicted antagonist (T2) to gone, to embittered antagonist (4-5) and is now just straight up evil. A part of me really hopes that theyre playing it as Kazuya is taking the back seat to devil and not that he just rolls with it now. Honestly though, bringing Kazuya back as a conflicted man now that the main source of his hatred is gone would be an immensely good move for T8 I feel. He's easily the most (or was the most) complicated character in Tekken. Goddammit I love the lore of Tekken. Please don't ruin it. Please revive the conflicting alignment and symbolic level design/music. T7 had brilliant combat but it lacked the soul of the earlier games. Especially 2, which personally I think was the epitome of Tekken.
Narowe I wish I could like this comment twice just for the part about Tekken 7 not having the soul of the older games. 7 is a fantastic game but content, story and lore-wise, it’s a bad Tekken game. I really hope in Tekken 8 they go back to treating the lore with as much respect and care as Soul Calibur 6 did.
Yeah mechanically T7 is awesome, but it somehow manages to lack the story of the previous games, despite the earlier games having only a few cutscenes to tell them. To get around these limitations they made locations and themes for the characters that they somehow managed to make fit the characters perfectly. Look at the final stage of Tekken 2 for instance. The mirrors and reflections are to imply an introspective struggle (storywise this is Kazuya fighting the Devil gene within himself) and the music mimics this struggle by being a much more sinister and deeper remix of Kazuyas theme. Hell even the costumes spoke volumes. Heihachi was always a traditional head of a martial arts clan despite being the head of a corporation, Kazuya had distanced himself but still wore the studded gloves of the martial arts. JIn wore the more conservative gear that you would expect of a student. Lei wore his cop uniform or a CID variant and Paul wore his Martial Arts garb whilst Law wore his damn work clothes or martial gear. Then look at Tekken 7. Everyone wears a variant of some form of suit, military garb or archaic ensemble. The Story is alright but has none of the bitterness and self-conflict that the earlier games exhumed (even with Heihachi facing off against Kazuya, and learning of Heihachi's wife felt less powerful than it could have been). The locations are nice looking but with very few having any significance to either plot or individual characters, and the music... Don't get me started. I don't hate electronic music, but having very little variation in songs and having them disconnected from the story and characters, instead going for just being hyped and fast paced isn't a good thing. Dsmn i went off on one there... I wasn't really old enough to appreciate just how amazing Tekken used to be (23 yo and my stepdad owned the first Tekken on PS1, and I collected each and every one afterwards minus Tekkn Tag Tournamnent 1 or that strange Nina fighter game that was released), but its a very important series for me nonetheless and despite my love for it, i still think it could be going in a better direction (But im neither a game Dev or aware of what they're planning for the series so what I think is best isn't exactly the best).
Not only do I hear kazuyas descent into madness I also hear jun's heartbreak and the angel hugging kazuya Letting Go knowing he won't ever choose his good side again
As you corner him, the tone changes from lighter tone into darker tone as his true nature is revealed. Not just the devil but the monster of a man he has become. The dark & ominous atmosphere together with slower tempo, piano & the wind in the background fit together perfectly as you struggle against this nightmarish entity. The whole final battle against Kazuya/Devil overall is a great example of how you can make not only a excellent fighting game boss battle, but also how to design a boss battle in general.
I like to believe this is canon. Devil's influence growing over time, while being temporarily halted by Jun. Once she was out of the picture however, there was no saving Kazuya. I like to think Devil is still canon, he's even mentioned in Claudio's Tekken 8 story on Tekken's site! Perhaps Jun can save what little remains of Kazuya, or maybe, it's too late for him...
@@neonthunder3261devil was never NOT cannon. Hes been running the show this whole time. You really just saw the Devils work in person this time during tekken 8. Hes been absorbing power for over 20yrs now
@@KingHoDoKaN I wrote that pre-Tekken 8, but now that the story's spoiled I can be satisfied in knowing I was right. I'm still 10 dollars short on being able to afford Tekken 8
What makes this song sad is this is the point where Kazuya loses what's left of the goodness in his heart... Thanks Harada... we original fans love you too *sarcasm*
I personally think that the Devil transformation is there to symbolize Kazuya's mental breakdown. A grualing fight with Heihachi keeps dragging on to te point that he feels that he must give in to the Devil in order to win. The theme song also fits in that setting perfectly if you ask me.
Xehanort10 zingodoom It's been mentioned for multiple times that Kazuya was indeed a good-hearted person as a child, but turned cold and bitter after surviving the ravine. That shit went even further when the Devil came in to the picture and he turned far more ruthless than Heihachi ever was. But since he's apparently the protagonist in Tekken 7, I think he's more of a byronic hero than actually the big bad of the series. He might be the worst of 'em, but anyone tough enough to take on Heihachi is practically the hero. Haha! Maybe he'll be the main antagonist in Tekken 8? Who knows.
If there is a Tekken 8, I doubt any of the Mishimas will be in it. The only ones I could imagine returning are Lars (who's technically only half traditional Mishima) and Jin, assuming he gets a happy ending
Ogre and True Ogre was nothin compared to Kazuya and Devil. You can outlive Unknown in both Tag games. Jinpachi is aggressive so just CH him, and hope he doesn't stun you. Azazel can be combo'ed and freezes on Burning Knuckle. Kazuya and Devil eats the other final bosses for breakfast. Except ws 4, that's the ultimate anti AI move in Tekken 2.
I really love this score. I think it mirrors Devil perfectly and Kazuya's story overall. It reflects not only Kazuya's Tekken 2 ending, but also his tragic past and ambitions. It makes me feel that the minor amount of goodness in Kazuya's heart has faded into pure evil and desire of power. They should remix this music in Tekken 7 in my opinion.
Diana Oliveira in other words Kazuya mind is being over shadowed by hatred( from the things his father done, G-Corp, and the people who treat him like garbage) and darkness( by his counterpart aka Devil's influence). His good side is still there but its suppressed by the 2 factors mostly all of the time. Only Jun can save him now since Kazumi appears to be a ghost now which is confirmed and Jin is only after him because he thinks Kazuya is main problem and he influences the his Devil side to control him, but doesn't know the entire truth about him.
this track just brings back such bittersweet 'wish i could bring back the past' feelings man, such nostalgia. I was only 10 when T2 was the first fighting game I ever bought. one of the best pieces of music ever used by a video game for sure
When Devil stood up it became clear Kazuya lost all morals he ever had. That one faint glimmer was gone, Jun probably restored it. But only briefly.........
Kazuya Mishima is a dark mirror to Jin Kazama: -Both are men who lost their mothers in a violent way, had a complicated relationship with their fathers, posess demonic genetical powers and became the leaders of their respective corporations by force and both committed atrocities to get what they want. -Kazuya embraced the temptations of the Devil Gene, Jin actively fights against it, Kazuya wants world domination, Jin wants to save the world, Kazuya hides behind a charming façade but is a power hungry madman, Jin hides behind a distant façade, but is a good person.
@@jorgebersabe293 Not to mention the way they lost their moms was different. Jun and Jin were attacked by Ogre, and Jun was stolen away. Kazumi's devil gene took over and tried to kill Heihachi, who had to kill her in self-defense.
@@maxrichards3881 "Kazumi's devil gene took over and tried to kill Heihachi, who had to kill her in self-defense." Kazumi wanted to kill Heihachi because of the Hachijo clan prophecy about thet curse of Mishimas that Mishimas would bring an endless destruction to the world.
@@Darkstar263 Yeah, same here. i had totally forgotten about that. Fuck i miss playing Tekken 2 in the 90's. Still is my favorite fighter game ive ever played.
At 0:48 ... the chills, goosebumps and sweet memories I have right now. The VS screen before the fight used to scared me lol. Those red evil eyes. This song represents so much for Kazuya and wish it had a remix on Tekken 7 where he fights with Heihachi.
The Devil theme fits the tragedy of Kazuya's character especially with what we learned in Tekken 7. Heihachi hated Kazuya for inheriting his mother Kazumi's Devil Gene even though Kazuya was an innocent kid who'd done nothing wrong but Heihachi projected his hatred of Kazumi for trying to kill him onto Kazuya even though Kazumi only tried to kill him because he already wanted power and world domination before he met and married Kazumi and had Kazuya with her and she and her assassin clan the Hachijos foresaw the threat he posed and would pose so they sent Kazumi to kill him and at first she only married him to get close enough to kill him but along the way she grew to genuinely love him and they had Kazuya together. Kazumi thought her love and Kazuya being born would get Heihachi to give up his ambitions but they didn't and she realised that the only way to stop Heihachi was to kill him so before she set off to face him she made a deal with Akuma who she'd once saved telling him to kill Heihachi if she didn't manage to and to kill Kazuya if he ever became evil like his father no matter how much she loved the both of them. Then she went to kill Heihachi but failed and he instead killed her. Heihachi throwing Kazuya off the cliff both to see if Kazuya had the Devil Gene and test if he was strong enough to inherit the Mishima Zaibatsu by daring him to climb back up to prove that he was truly his son was sick.
I really hate how they needed to complicate the backstory by including Kazuya's mother. The original was much cleaner. Heihachi is a psycho who tosses his son off a cliff. Son makes deal with legit Satan to get even. Deal With Devil typical, results in tainted blood, polluting his entire line instead of just killing his psycho dad.
@@HxHwillReturn But that was because Jun was guiding Jin. But what if she wasn't? The person Jin would have turned out to be is Kazuya. Let's think about it: Kazuya was the Jin Kazama of his generation: A man who cherished his mother, who died and seeked revenge against the person responsible of her death. Only that Kazuya, unlike Jin, had no positive figures to make him avoid a dark path.
@@HxHwillReturn The difference in their devil forms is that Kazuya throws his laser fluidly, Jin recoils with a bit of pain. Kazuya transforms fluidly, Jin transforms randomly. Kazuya's combos are more fluid, Jin's are more crude. This shows that Kazuya has embraced the Devil Gene, whereas Jin fights against it.
Why isn't Tekken music still like this? T2 was the absolute prime of audio design for the series. The amount of depth, personality, and character in the stages and sound effects made Tekken 2 feel so much bigger and more meaningful than it was. The mechanics of the games has improved significantly over the course of time, and yet, somehow, the audio design has taken a nosedive into unremarkable mediocrity. Some songs are good and some sound effects are cool, but nothing is Emotionless Passion or Be In The Mirror or As Bald As.
Traps Are Gay Agreed, i didn’t like Tekken 6 when it first came out, those weird and flashy characters such as Bob and Alisa weren’t that great in my opinion, also, the fact that the story mode was just an afterthought and the actual story was shown in Scenario Campaign just seemed strange. I still had fun with it tho, it wasn’t nearly as good as Tekken 5, but at least it still felt like Tekken, the characters could be taken seriously and all their stories felt relevant. Tekken 7 on the other end feels like a different game, the campaign was complete shit aside from the prologue and the ending, because, let’s face it, all the other stuff was filler, they could have left in just those two fights and it would have been the same (but at that point everyone would have got angry at them for making them wait years for a two fights campaign). Also, the whole story is a retcon, didn’t Heihachi throw Kazuya off a cliff because he thought he was too weak? Didn’t the Devil Gene originate from Jinpachi? Heihachi was just a maniac, but they needed to make him look like the victim in T7, because otherwise no one would have felt sorry for him. Also, what’s with Akuma? Why now all the characters that aren’t Mishima related feel one dimensional and uninteresting? Was it really necessary to make every music track a bad dubstep/house/drum and bass? Why the rage arts? There is a lot more, but this comment is going on forever, so i’ll just stop here.
Captain Rupertikjakmos what a stand up type of guys you are. You guys act like you speak for alll old Tekken fans and you attack fans who like the newer games. You are no different from those leftists on Reddit
yes but this time kazuya wins and won''t kill his son because he would be like Heiachi he will just take all the whole Devil and leave the planet revealing that was his plan since the beginning (he can survive space) "people like us shoul't exist in this world, but in other worlds....yes"
I love that instead of a big bombastic hype song for the final showdown they went for something more slow and depressing in a way. Devil is a pure manifestation of what Kazuya has become, by being fueled by nothing but revenge he’s lost almost all the humanity left in him. Had he not sold his soul and somehow survived his fall from the cliff, he could have grown up to be a much better person.
It feels it hammers home how pointless the entire feud really was. I don't know if this was necessarily intentional considering it's just a fighting game, but part of what I got from Tekken 2 is that if you were actually a fighting game protagonist obsessed with the pursuit of power and strength above all else it would lead you down some very dark paths That being said, even if it isn't that deep, it at least does a better job at conveying emotion than any of the Tekken games with spoken dialogue funnily enough
I have a theory about this stage and what it represents. When Kazuya made the deal with Devil in order to survive and defeat Heihachi, he became a vessel, a host body, for Devil. The devil feeds off of Kazuya's anger, but also fuels it at the same time. Heihachi is the source of all of Kazuya's misery, and the Devil keeps him fixated on that. Kazuya's anger is the source of all his strength and motivation. The Devil gene doesn't literally give Kazuya power, it fuels his anger and his anger gives him strength. When Kazuya fights Heihachi at the end of Tekken 1, all that anger and strength is unleashed, and he wins. This is the power the Devil grants, but it comes with a terrible price. Kazuya spent so long being driven by anger that even when the source of it is supposedly gone, he still can’t let go. He must continue to fuel his anger, he doesn't know how to live otherwise, so he takes it out on the world. He becomes the ruthless leader of the Zaibatsu, and announces another tournament because he wants to take his hatred out on even more people. Ironically Kazuya was a better person when Heihachi was around, because his anger was controlled and focused on one man, and this stopped him from being needlessly ruthless to others, hence why he's a neutral character in Tekken 1. While Kazuya is being controlled by an outside force, it’s completely due to him willingly letting hatred and power consume him. When the Devil takes full control of him at the end of Tekken 2, it represents Kazuya’s hatred fully taking him over, as his name is changed to Devil not Devil-Kazuya. The devil gene isn't what makes Kazuya strong, just like it isn't what makes him evil. The devil gene is just the curse of inescapable anger. This is why the final stage in Tekken 2 features steal floors and an endless darkness, it's a prison. Kazuya is now a prisoner in his own body, the fight in front of him echoing infinitely throughout his mind.
Kazuya is still feeling waves of sorrow to be honest. In Tekken 7, for the first time mind you, he finds out that his mother wanted him dead too. So, whatever trace of humanity that keeps him tethered had to have been torn even more after hearing that. Remember, the Devil in Kazuya was taken over in Tekken 4, so his human-side is still very much in there. Honestly... I would love for this song to make a comeback, and for Kazuya to have a fight with either Angel, Jin, or an Incarnation of his inner-demons.
@@fredcomms_ Tekken 4 kind of retconed the "turning to further the dark side" thing Tekken 2 was going for with the devil gene. But Kazuya was a despicable cold-blooded man even in the Tekken 1 manual, and him being the big bad was always what he wanted. As far as I know, Kazuya's struggle with the devil gene is similar to Jin, embodying the violent urges that manifest as power. Note that their devil gene was not always a struggle for them, but rather it triggered when they faced serious abuse/betrayal and they only struggle with it when their anger and hatred is at all time high (but for Kazuya, that's 24/7). Tekken 4 explains that Kazuya was able to control his devil gene due to G Corporation's meddling with his biology after he was brought back from the dead. Kazuya and Devil are mentally consistent now, and he has full control of the devil gene's power. In Tekken 8, it's heavily implied that Jin will be able to do the same.
This should be played for the final battle between Jin and Kazuya. No tournament No spectators No camera’s Just Jin and kazuya somewhere far from civilization. Here’s how I think the pre-fight dialogue would go: Kazuya: so this is what it has came to......son? Jin: Yes. This curse has to end somehow....father. Kazuya: this isn’t a cur- Jin: IF THE DEVIL ISNT A CURSE, maybe mother would still be alive. Maybe that damn HEIHACHI WOULDNT HAVE KILLED GRANDMOTHER KAZUMI OR JINPACHI, he wouldn’t have thrown you off that cliff, or shot me in the head. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY?!(at this point Jin is in tears) Kazuya: you’re right. But, it seems like this is the only way.(gets in to fighting stance) Jin: The Mishima Curse, ENDS HERE. The fight begins: one round. When both are at the halfway point: Jin: ok, time to get SERIOUS(transforms into DEVIL JIN) Kazuya: hmph, pathetic.(also turns into devil) Fight continues: Jin is weakened Kazuya: time to die......son(goes for killing blow) Jin:huaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.(becomes controlled devil Jin from blood vengeance) Jin then does a new rage art(how you imagine it) Jin: the curse is over now(aims a punch to his chest) *a hand grabs Jin’s arm* ???: (in a gentle voice) no my son, don’t. Jin: (suddenly back to normal) who are you. (A hooded figure is seen) ???: how could you not recognize...... (Takes off hood, it is revealed to be none other than JUN KAZAMA, mother to Jin kazama, lover of Kazuya Mishima) your own mother. Jin: m-m-mother? B-but how? Kazuya: J-jun? (To Be Continued) Edit: and it seems now my theory has come to fruition
I have a theory about this fight. It's not real. It's inside Kazuya's head after being beaten. That's why the stage suddenly changes to a hall of mirrors. All he can think about is the fight. Which is why you see the fight going on infinitely in the mirrors.
Devil and Angel's stories are also in his head. He's imagining the outcome. And if you think about it, Devil and Angel battle each other. That's Kazuya having an internal conflict.
MrFireCowboy That's called symbolism, I am pretty sure that was intended. Japanese mythologies usually consist of conflicting battles within (which takes from Buddhism/Shinto Buddhism). The battle of good vs evil to try and find balance and claim your inner peace. Kazuya wasn't really all that bad, the Devil made him do most of things and has morphed him into something else. Hence "the curse of the Devil gene". Tekken 7 will explain where it came from and who passed it on (Heihachi's wife).
""You Lose!"" (in red font colour) "Continue?" Can't forget the disappointments fighting against Devil. Made me had nightmares of how he was too strong to beat when I was a kid..
@Osama Manan Definitely! And the mad thing was, the AI was adaptive. Your strategies or combos against all the other CPUs were adapted in the last stage that it just won't work if used against Devil. If a staggering sweep works on previous stages, don't dream of it to work here. Hahaha.. You'll be read like a book.
This whole series even though it switch perspectives or switch protagonist alot within the Mishima family is mainly about Kazuya always has been. Everyone who just got into the series around the ps2 games or between 6 or 7 automatically come to an assumption that Kazuya is clearly the bad guy/Main antagonist infact its the Devil along with the Hachijo clan, the originator of the gene, G-Corp, and Claudio's organization is another new threat added to the list. Kazuya is just a lost tragic character who doesn't truly knows about the history of the Hachijos/Devil true intentions yet. Jun is only one who can bring him back to his real personal and stop the fued.
The Hachijo crap shouldn't exist in the first place. Kazumi was originally written as dead as she gave birth to Kazuya. Her death led to Heihachi's depression and abuse of Kazuya. Devil was originally not part of their family genes.
@@suiken3149 not really in the Tekken motion picture film the first animated film, she was depicted as dead from giving birth to Kazuya, however in the game's canon they never stated how she died or when she died only Kazuya, Jinpaichi, Wang, Akuma, and Heihachi knows about her death and what cause it(But Kazuya doesn't he know why or wants to accept why it happened). Harada-san never stated anything about her death besides saying she died sometime before the events of Tekken
@@mareo187 Harada never stated anything because he wasnt even the writer of the first 3 games. He just interpreted the lore on his own because his seniors who originally wrote the story left Namco already.
@@suiken3149 no what I meant to say Harada-san who was the deciple of the original creator who made Virtual Fighter and tekken, they didn't really specify in the game's guide prior how Kazuya's mother died only in the tekken motion picture film it did which turns out to be non-canon and also the on Playstation biography when you purchase the game on psp or ps3 psn store did, Kazuya's mother was hinted and mentioned in a small sense but she passed on way before the events of Tekken has taken place. Some speculated she died from natural causes of giving birth to Kazuya, but that was left in a ambiguous path some fans made of because of the film at the time. Tekken 2 however use the idea of Kazuya's swap outfit which names him Devil as a ideal to explain why completely switches side to displays himself as a evil tyrant and this gave us theories telling the audience that Kazuya was giving his evil paranormal powers at birth by parental means. For years they thought it was Heihachi side of the family gave him that and Kazuya sold himself to the Devil(which is partially true) to gain those powers. But tekken team did answer before while Mishimas are indeed paranormal beings, Kazuya didn't receive the Devil gene from them and this left fans clueless about it. And this was around Tekken 4 and 5 I had idea of where it might came from sense they been so quiet about the topic for over 2 decades.
The fight was scary (the vs screen especially!) but the music had that sad/cold, awe about it! I was already a teenager when this game came out. Lol I am old. Jk I refuse to become old!!!😎 ... Too bad all problems weren't as easy to solve. My running shoes feel like they are suck in the cement...😔 Awesome video 👍
If you want to go further, the fighting styles between Kazuya and Devil in T2 reflects that as well. Kazuya has his Demon Blow, Mist Step, and kick follow-up with his Dragon Uppercut (if that count for something) - Devil has none of those. In fact, the only thing Devil has going for him is his standing High and flying sweeping lasers.

I see lots of people confused here so here is what happen in that stage for me: I think in the cannon kazuya got smacked by heihachi, and this fight is while he is uncouscious, left for dead in the volcano, and devil is taking control, that heihachi is a projection of his own hatred, they fight what seem endless battles in kazuya's mind symbolized by the mirrors and ultimately the now devil possesed kazuya win, emerging back from the dead for the next game, kazuya still think he is the one in control, but he is now a possesed monster, ultimately the results of his actions from now on are what devil have planned. they make you fight devil as heihachi cause he is a real cool end boss, but only kazuya fight in his head. He lose again and again against that fantasmed heihachi until giving in to devil. Also we now know that Heihachi knew his wife was a demon, so it make sense he knew he was a demon without ever seeing kazuya devil form., that's why he keep trying to kill him before devil ever show up.
I was mortified when I heard this theme playing as devil kazyua rose from the ground when I was little, the atmosphere, I was scared of this stage as a kid, the fear of losing to devil just mortified me, even today, I get chills from this theme and devil but my god is it amazing!
xXxAllOrNothinxXx, that's because you learn to sympathize with a good guy turning evil granted he has the "right" motive to let it take him over, whereas as a kid you cannot fully comprehend what drives someone to get consumed by darkness. It's never really the fault of the good guy alone; someone does it to him, or something triggers him to become this way...

+Xavery B. It doesn't slow down because it's limited to 5 reflections and is limited to a very small square, rather than taking up half the screen like the other backgrounds do, so it doesn't take too much memory bandwidth to write, nor much data to store. Every time I struggle in ranked with this hard ass character I come back and listen to this and remember why I main him. Tekken 2 was such vibes, that purple suit
I can imagine in Tekken 8, during the battle between Jin and Kazuya for the final time, their fight ends up in the same Mirror room where Devil once revealed its true form in Tekken 2. In a manner similar to Kazuya and Heihachi's final few punches against each other, Jin would begin striking Kazuya, but for every punch or kick he makes, we can see that Kazuya's Devil Gene slowly disintigrates and leaves his body. Kazuya would do the same to Jin's Devil Gene in retaliation. As they take turns punching and kicking each other, this theme plays in the background, as some of the Devil's Essence leaves each of their bodies and materializes into a flashback showing all of the malicious, heinous and corrupt acts they both committed in their lust for power, control and revenge back when they were still possessed by Devil. As soon as both of them have only one quarter of the Devil Gene in their respective bodies, they both go for one final punch, but suddenly fall to their knees in shock at an Angelic-esque presence. This is revealed to be the doing of Jun Kazama, who, after learning about what happened to her between Tekken 3-7, has come to interrupt her husband and son's battle to the death in a final attempt to purify them completely.

They need to remake Tekken 1-3 or even 4 to some extent. No over-the-top anime bullshit, brilliant musical scoring, atmosphere and remove the bound system. I don't mind the juggle system from 5.
That really wouldn't work out. The combat system(base of the gameplay) is too outdated, but part of the reason Tag games exist is to reintroduce the previous/current 3 games and merge them into a single game. Tag 1: Tekken 1,2,3 Tag 2: Tekken 4,5,6
The juggle system is absolute cancer no skill addition tho. Also in order to have a great story for the first 3 games, they would have to completely ignore everything from 4 onwards. Harada completely ruined everything that was set up storywise, tone-wise, and well everything else.
my theory goes a little something like this: Heihachi just threw Kazuya into the volcano, he survives and he is in some sort of sleep. During the events, Jun Kazama had just given birth to her son, Jin. Meanwhile, all Kazuya can think about is revenge on his twisted, unstable father. 10 years later, the devil gene somehow revives him and takes him out of the "sleep." Another 10 years later, the G-Corporation took things from there and put his body in a cryo pod, they rebuilt a new body to replicate the effects of the volcano and look like what Kazuya would have looked like 20 years after. this event takes place when Heihachi shoots Kazuya's son, Jin in the back of the head after defeating Ogre. Unleashing Devil Jin in the process. 2 years later, Kazuya wakes up and is conscious for the first time in 21-22 years.
Wreck Tard at the time when devil and angel were fighting inside an unconscious kazuya's head. thus heihachi taking advantage of the situation by throwing him into the volcano
If only Namco put in a lot of effort to the newer Tekken games like they did with Tekken 2 (up to Tekken 4?), where almost everybody doesn't have a joke ending or storyline. Soul Calibur always had great writing, bonus/joke character or not. I like the awesome gameplay of the newer Tekken games but having good character writing makes me attached and love the character even more but maybe that's just me. Heihachi saving Kazuya from Devil was far better than sending the other Mishima to space, floating in space with Kuma.. or being humiliated by Lee.. What the fuck, Namco?

If I'm being honest I thought Kazuya was more difficult just because after the first laser it's lost all surprise so you either crouch or run behind him while he's flying leaving him completely open.
“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain”
In Kazuya's case, pretty fuckin much
"You either die a hero, or live past infancy."
None of the Mishimas are good people, not even Jin.
@@anon3631at least he's trying tho
@@anon3631Kuma is alright

The whole final battle against Kazuya/Devil overall is a great example of how you can make not only a excellent fighting game boss battle, but also how to design a boss battle in general.

Draven Flores Kazuya's my favourite Tekken character but I don't think he ever had any goodness in his heart to begin with.
Xehanort10 He was kind and good-natured as a child, but of course that all went to shit after Heihachi threw him into the ravine
The only boss in a Tekken game that actually frightened me. Tekken 2 was so good.
Ogre and True Ogre was nothin compared to Kazuya and Devil. You can outlive Unknown in both Tag games. Jinpachi is aggressive so just CH him, and hope he doesn't stun you. Azazel can be combo'ed and freezes on Burning Knuckle.

Only The Power Hungry Devil 😈 Is Left.
Kazuya Mishima is a dark mirror to Jin Kazama:
-Both are men who lost their mothers in a violent way, had a complicated relationship with their fathers, posess demonic genetical powers and became the leaders of their respective corporations by force and both committed atrocities to get what they want.
-Kazuya embraced the temptations of the Devil Gene, Jin actively fights against it, Kazuya wants world domination, Jin wants to save the world, Kazuya hides behind a charming façade but is a power hungry madman, Jin hides behind a distant façade, but is a good person.

Heihachi never hated either of em. He hated the devil inside them, throwing kazuya off the cliff was a precaution but he very much loved kazumi
Not even precaution probably broke him to do it but it had to be done in his eyes!
@@boldbearings cleaner and easier to understand for smooth brains

0:00 to 0:12 makes me think Tekken 2 was not simply just about Heihachi's revenge, but how Kazuya's downfall was lonely and traumatic for him.
And Jin could have turned out like Kazuya if not for Jun's guidance.
Jin doesn't seem like he would be have grown up to be like Kazuya. He seems like he wants to avoid his family if he isn't able to kill them.
@@jorgebersabe293 Well with the devil gene, you never know. You could be right.
It all went to shit after Tekken 5.
Traps Are Gay
Agreed, i didn’t like Tekken 6 when it first came out, those weird and flashy characters such as Bob and Alisa weren’t that great in my opinion, also, the fact that the story mode was just an afterthought and the actual story was shown in Scenario Campaign just seemed strange.

There used to be a lot of mysticism and a certain sense of sadness about Devil.
Now it's just powered up Kazuya laughing about world domination.
When Kazuya stood up that was the indication, any good left in him was now gone. There was only Devil.......
This song is so emotional
Yes
I love that instead of a big bombastic hype song for the final showdown they went for something more slow and depressing in a way.
Devil is a pure manifestation of what Kazuya has become, by being fueled by nothing but revenge he’s lost almost all the humanity left in him.
Had he not sold his soul and somehow survived his fall from the cliff, he could have grown up to be a much better person.
It feels it hammers home how pointless the entire feud really was. I don't know if this was necessarily intentional considering it's just a fighting game, but part of what I got from Tekken 2 is that if you were actually a fighting game protagonist obsessed with the pursuit of power and strength above all else it would lead you down some very dark paths
That being said, even if it isn't that deep, it at least does a better job at conveying emotion than any of the Tekken games with spoken dialogue funnily enough
In the wiki i've read so far, i don't really understand how or why, they all say that in T4 Kazuya and his devil side "merged"
@@fredcomms_

@@darylhearth14 if you play both kazuya and jin endings in t4 kazuya's ending happened except that jin won

@@the_legendaryds unfortunately I’m not.
I have a theory about this fight. It's not real. It's inside Kazuya's head after being beaten. That's why the stage suddenly changes to a hall of mirrors. All he can think about is the fight. Which is why you see the fight going on infinitely in the mirrors.
MrFireCowboy That's a really nice theory! Though with Devil's ending... would what happens in that still be inside his head?

Mario Sanon He wasn't really involved in the events of Tekken 5. But even in Tekken 3, he was an important character even though he was absent.
Good lord, the intro to this (Man, those violins) never fails to get me to tear up. 😢
The fight was scary (the vs screen especially!) but the music had that sad/cold, awe about it! I was already a teenager when this game came out. Lol I am old. Jk I refuse to become old!!!😎
... Anyways... You just had that feeling of exuberance when you beat Devil! Like you conquered the world!!! I would go outside and run a few laps around after that. Too bad all problems weren't as easy to solve. My running shoes feel like they are suck in the cement...😔 Awesome video 👍
Every since playing this on ps1, this song always sent chills down my spine
The best Tekken theme for me.
Thank you so much Namco for this masterpiece of series. I will like Tekken forever.
All that comes to mind is *HOOYET, HOOYET, TWOOAAH!* 😭😭🤣🤣
When you’re 28 and realize this is the theme of Kazuya battling with the devil 🧬 within himself
And the wild shit about that is Kazuya was 28 in Tekken 2
@@DanteHinton6190 Well damn. That’s crazy
The Devil in Tekken 2 was weaker than he should have been due to an inner conflict within Kazuya. I’d say this theme represents that struggle well.
So Basically Kazuya wasn’t really evil to begin, it was good ol Hachi’ that broke him down to become evil
Yes: Kazuya Mishima was the Jin Kazama of his era; A man who had a complicated relationship with his father and lost his mother in a violent way, seeking to get revenge by any means necessary....except Kazuya embraced the Devil Gene.
@@jorgebersabe293 at the time of this game the devil gene wasn't a thing.....he simply sold his soul in order to survive the fall to get revenge on his father.
@@CAM8689 Yeah they really changed the story of Tekken. I definitely remember reading that years ago. Then I remember the story of Tekken 2, when Heihachi defeated Kazuya, Devil left his body and tried to come after Jun Kazama.
Devil wins.
Every Fucking Time!
Emanuele Utzeri To be fair whenever I played Tekken 2 I found Kazuya tougher than Devil.
+Xehanort10 Took me quite an hour to beat the AC Version of Tekken 2... fucking Moonjumps, fucking CPU reads my inputs, fucking slow and fucking scary at times D:
continue?
The funny thing that I noticed when I was beating tekken 2 with almost every character (to unlock everything on the ps1 version.) with some characters it's harder to beat Devil and other characters it's harder to beat Kazuya it's weird but maybe that's just me.
Because Tekken 4 is The Return of Kazuya Mishima That's why Tekken 4 is The Dark Tekken in series
I really feel bad for kazuya! He's such a lonely person
And Jin could have easily turned out like Kazuya if not for Jun.
@@jorgebersabe293 without a doubt!
@@zarakikenpachi122 This is also seen in the gameplay:
-Devil Jin, while throwing his laser, he recoils a bit in pain and involuntarily. This is a sign that Jin is fighting against the Devil Gene and wants to cling to his humanity.
-Devil Kazuya, on the other hand, throws his laser attack and transforms effortlessly, showing that Kazuya has embraced the Devil Gene and has thrown away his humanity.
@@jorgebersabe293 dude what are you talking about??? Jin is just as bad as kazuya 😂
I see lots of people confused here so here is what happen in that stage for me:
I think in the cannon kazuya got smacked by heihachi, and this fight is while he is uncouscious, left for dead in the volcano, and devil is taking control, that heihachi is a projection of his own hatred, they fight what seem endless battles in kazuya's mind symbolized by the mirrors and ultimately the now devil possesed kazuya win, emerging back from the dead for the next game, kazuya still think he is the one in control, but he is now a possesed monster, ultimately the results of his actions from now on are what devil have planned.
they make you fight devil as heihachi cause he is a real cool end boss, but only kazuya fight in his head.
Hint: put this song on Devil Jin's Tekken 5 stage,it fits him so well
Doreya! Doreya! This music is straight from my childhood 😍 Tekken 2 first console game I played 👍
So u can do electrics
+Guizoca GG every self respecting KAZUYA player should be able to do electrics
fair enough
Well, i coudn't do that as a child playing tekken 2 xD
Carl John I've been playing Tekken since it was first an arcade game, I'm now fluent in EWGF's and 10HC's
best extended mix I have ever heard.
Je l'écoutais il y a 25 ans et je l'écoute encore, le plus beau sound track ever.
I feel sad and power too !
xXxAllOrNothinxXx, that's because you learn to sympathize with a good guy turning evil granted he has the "right" motive to let it take him over, whereas as a kid you cannot fully comprehend what drives someone to get consumed by darkness. It's never really the fault of the good guy alone; someone does it to him, or something triggers him to become this way...
+Thomas van Doorn thank you Thomas thats big words from you ...
If you think through about the matter, actually all the Mishimas are all tragic characters, either one way or another.
Except for Heihachi. The dude was through and through an evil bastard and attempts to make him look like the victim are rather pathetic
@Nostalgic Person On the other hand, the Hachijos were idiots: Prophecies and visions only have the power you choose to give them.
Nah that's just a pity attempt to make Heihachi sympathetic because Harada couldn't follow his senpai's excellent writings.
@@whlteshadow9570 Even before that incident, Heihachi locked his father Jinpachi under Honmaru.
@@suiken3149 Although this whole pity act would be completely in character for Heihachi, as he is not above manipulating others for his own purposes.
this has to be the dopest most intense song of tekken and many games ive played. just sublime sadly i wasnt alive to play this game when it was released.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO
Last fight between kazuya and jin in tekken 8 with this music. Im gonna cry as hell I hope they put this masterpiece on that
This in a classic orchestral instrumental version is a perfect theme for Adrian Farenheights Tepes or Alcuard of Castlevania.
How did they make that mirror effect, when shaders werent invented yet :|, also how did they make it, not to lag during gameplay. It's incredible to me.
+Xavery B. It doesn't slow down because it's limited to 5 reflections and is limited to a very small square, rather than taking up half the screen like the other backgrounds do, so it doesn't take too much memory bandwidth to write, nor much data to store. Still very impressive programming for the time and the hardware.
It's a render-to-texture, and the texture is the framebuffer, without the HUD plane.
This song is going hard af
This music would fit a fallen evil angel in my opinion.
Ahhh the nostalgia, nothing compares...
Fuck modern Tekken's soundtracks.
GOD THIS IS AMAZING
Every time I struggle in ranked with this hard ass character I come back and listen to this and remember why I main him. Tekken 2 was such vibes, that purple suit
Who’s here after Kazuya was announced for Smash?
Me
Me, I'm so fucking happy!
me
Amen! I hope to hear this theme put in the game.
Me
This song always creeped me out as a kid playing this. Now it makes me sad... Weird.
This is revealed to be the doing of Jun Kazama, who, after learning about what happened to her between Tekken 3-7, has come to interrupt her husband and son's battle to the death in a final attempt to purify them completely.
to me the darker tekken games (tekken 2 and 4) should hold this as their theme
2:25 best part

Shadow Mewtwo's theme. The dark synergy stone completely took control of him. Now, Mewtwo is a prisoner in his own body...
i never forget that loading screen with the red eyes as a kid lol
Few times does a song work just as well on 2 as it does on normal speed.
Try it and see for yourself.
Its like a most saddest song in tekken and i feel the sadnest and painful of that song
Tag 1: Tekken 1,2,3
Tag 2: Tekken 4,5,6
The juggle system is absolute cancer no skill addition tho. Also in order to have a great story for the first 3 games, they would have to completely ignore everything from 4 onwards. Harada completely ruined everything that was set up storywise, tone-wise, and well everything else.
@@hououinkyouma3864 "I don't like it so it's bad"
Anime bullshit has always been here tho
@@bguy6778 It was an easter egg, not the chunk of the game shoved into your throat
Kazuya bros, rise up!
my theory goes a little something like this: Heihachi just threw Kazuya into the volcano, he survives and he is in some sort of sleep. 2 years later, Kazuya wakes up and is conscious for the first time in 21-22 years.
no shit, I just forgot to mention it
So how does Kazuya impregnate Jun while he's asleep?
Wreck Tard impregnation happened beforehand
luke_EPICYOLOSWAGGER69 when he was in the volcano?
Wreck Tard at the time when devil and angel were fighting inside an unconscious kazuya's head. thus heihachi taking advantage of the situation by throwing him into the volcano
Excellent extended version
MELHOR ROTEIRO DE TODOS. MELHOR CHEFÃO DE TODOS. MELHOR TEKKEN DE TODOS

Tekken 7 doesn't even have character endings... good thing they have learned in Tekken 8.
