I think the ending is very dark. It implies that nothing really changed. Yes, Kai's cult is dead, but it's replaced by Ally's cult. Ally is not some kind of role model, "making the world a better place". There are literally no good characters in this season (except maybe for Oz), everyone is a piece of shit. The show's not subtle about it either.
Yeah, it's a proper ending for such a dark season.

xoxo zhane definitely agree! Evan Peters is sooo versatile, and he even reminded me of Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker at times. If he can pull off 6 different cult leaders, he can be by far the most "disturbing" Joker ever! Jared Leto, ok, but eat your heart out compared to this young man!
Underrated? He has appeared in a lot of X Men movies and this show is really popular. In my opinion he is doing well. I guess it depends of what you define as underrated. If you compare him to a more famous actor then he is underrated.

I don’t care what anyone says, I LOVED this season. I’ve been watching since Murder House first aired, and Cult, Roanoke and Coven are my absolute favorites.

I don't think Roanoke and Cult is at the same level as the first seasons of AHS, but it was still pretty good and enjoyable. I just think people didn't like it as mucch, as it is quite different to the first seasons.

Sarah said in an interview that it was a SCUM robe but i really thought the last scene was a lead into the return to coven. SHe literally says im going to meet some strong empowered women and then proceeds to put on a robe. im getting coven vibes

Coven wore black robes. SCUM wore green so it was obvious it was for SCUM. Plus Murderhouse and Coven are getting their crossover season. Plus it kind of wouldnt fit in with this season to connect it to Coven because there was no supernatural element involved.

I know the guy playing Kai (Evan Peters, who will always be Tate in my mind) was playing a role when he said "women should know their place, make me a sandwich!" but it still makes me roll my eyes

This season is probably my favorite so far. The acting was great with Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. He definitely should get an Emmy nomination next year. He was so good I didn't realize it was him playing most of those Cult leaders. My favorite part of the season was the way Ally went from a terrified weak woman to an extremely intelligent, cold, calculating and manipulative sociopath. She poisoned her wife, shot an old woman in the head, stabbed a cult member in the chest, tricked Kai into killing his sister and planned the death of Kai perfectly. I know some will disagree but we are all entitled to our own opinions.
Thank you for covering the zodiac killer connection because when they through that in it kinda threw me off because the zodiac killer was in hotel
But why kill Speedwagon?? I never understood that if she was working with the FBI to
pj ondat she did it to win Kai’s trust and to make it seem like she was looking out for him. Also, if Kai discovered later what Speedwagon was doing and he found out that Ally knew about it, they’d BOTH be killed, which would derail the entire plot.

They should have named this season Even Peters. He was the only reason that I kept watching. great overall concept, they just missed great obvious opportunities. They could have tied this to the coven season easily. I initially thought the pinky power had actual power or something, they should have kept the supernatural element in. I suppose Evans was scary enough. The lat ep was very obvious, but still good.
Revenge of the Nerd the entire season was an allegory for the fact that reality is the embodiment of fear and that supernatural elements such as vampires, demonic nuns, ghosts and ghouls isn’t scary; reality is. Tying it into previous seasons may be more interesting and true to what American horror story has always been but it defeats the symbolism and purpose of the entire season. There’s a reason it is the way it is. It’s not an “obvious” oversight on the producers and very talented writers part.

I don't know why they ended it on a "cliff hanger" sorta. Like its just open ended and the audience mostly doesn't care about what it could be. It could have just been over. What a weirdly written season.

Badly written is more like it. I was interested enough to watch the entire season, even though I was extremely disappointed, underwhelmed and bored by much of it. Something was missing, be it A-list actors, clever tie-ins or actual horror or scariness.
Yes, open-ended is the correct term. Wouldn't call it a cliff-hanger in any sense. I've heard a handful of people say they were expecting more after the last shot, but I expected that's exactly how they were going to end it when you see her in the cloak and I'm not mad about.

This season had an incredible impact on me. I was amazed at the plot line and the outcome. Wonderfully done!
I think this season was for a more mature audience. I enjoyed it thoroughly and still feel as if Freak show is by far the absolute worst season to date.
This season really was for the more mature of the AHS audience, it was almost this psychological thriller in a way. If people are watching American Horror Story to see gruesome murders and jump scares this really was not the season. The realness of this season was the scariest thing about it, I enjoyed it in my Top 5 from the different seasons.

Lmao no the season wasn’t more mature, it was simplistic and bad storytelling. There was no deeper level it was all surface level and it had zero twists. Characters completely change emotions and motivations from one episode to another but still somehow be completely predictable from the very first episode.

This season didn't feel like the usual american horror story, and last season wasn't that great to me either, hopefully the next one will be better

Got to say this last episode just annoyed me. The season as a whole hasn't been shy about the political/social narrative being pushed but this last episode threw every hint of subtlety out the window. Seemed like they couldn't go a scene without alluding to something along the lines of "muh women are so oppressed". The last 20 minuets even had references to snowflakes, mansplaining and the wage gap. It was just layered on waaay too thick.
That's not really what the season has been saying. It apparently attempted to weigh both sides but it didn't. All of the male cult members were completely brainwashed and insane but all (except one) female characters broke away and became victims/heroes. Yes at the end Sara Paulsons character made a new female cult but she is still portrayed as a ritchious protagonist and many viewers may ignore the problems with her and might side with her and even think that what she is doing is right. It didn't feel like it was criticising militant feminists or the far left but was instead pandering to it.
its actually showing how scary that is, a misandrist winning. the audience r the ones dumb enough to think they're portraying social justice as good in the show
ryan is a gay man himself, and he wasnt afraid to show how misandrists hate gay men aswell, it is criticising it, and showing it right on the screen

Roanoke was so good in my opinion it was different which AHS needed after trying to go in between different and the same as previous seasons with Hotel.

I can see where you're coming from as well. AHS did desperately need a change after 'Hotel'. But I don't think 'Roanoke' was the right direction... That was more of what I meant. I feel like 'Cult' was very different, but also had familiar themes. 'Roanoke' started out very strong, but the whole last half of the season ended on a sour note for me...
seth featherston I agree first part of the season of Roanoke was amazing. I wish since it was so different they would've stuck with what they had going. Because AHS is known for going another direction half way through seasons. Since it was so different I think if they didn't completely and so clearly tried to split the season into two and stuck with the initial feel that it could've been a fan favorite. I still love Roanoke even though the last half was not that good.

This season started good with a the phobias and suspense. But it went down hill with Kai trying to become a senator and those killer flashbacks. The ending was awful

Well, this season finally killed the show for me. Ahs hit its peak with season 2 and has been on a steady decline ever since. There is really nothing redeemable left to justify continued viewing. Sad to say, Ahs used to be one of my favorite series...

They all did an amazing job the actors. As far as characters go, Oz was my favorite because he was the most normal. Everybody else went from bad to worse or worse to MUCH Worse! They all make Michael Myers from Halloween look like a cub scout troop leader.
Loved this season. I think it would be cool for the first time the next season actually picks up where this season left off because it kind of ended with telling us there is more to come.
I just finished binge watching Cult and it was really hard to get through. I think that we have enough going on in this country that is depicted in this season of AHS without having to watch a reminder. The supernatural element which I love, and is an escape from reality for me, was missing. There have been some great seasons and some were better than others but Cult was a drag.
Who said Cult isn't good? IT'S GADDAMN AWESOME!! I love how they had a somewhat different take on the show with this season as mentioned..no supernatural stuff for a change (I like the supernatural elements that AHS had been putting in but without any on Cult just feels fresh to me). I beg to disagree to thoss saying that AHS had started going downhill, getting boring etc. I think it's really ever changing and volatile. I love it!! I just, hands down, love this show so much. And damnn...another Evan-Sarah heavy lead season. Reminds me of Asylum. Well of course, sans Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe & Kathy Bates this time in Cult. But it was still so awesome. Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson always delivers so freaking fantastically. Right after watching the whole season, this has become one my faves - well, it's hard to have a fave season in AHS for all seasons are magnificent on its own

i stopped watching this season half way cause it just got boring tbh. The first half of the show was good, and Evan Peters performance was great but it just lacked so much that the first atleast 3 seasons had. Hopefully next season they will go back to it's roots.

I get where youre coming from, but you have to get why things are probs gonna keep going this way, ahs is supposed to be a horror story, the cult mind control is disturbing and unsettling, same with roanoke, roanoke is by far the only season that is actually scary, the other one except freakshow is more drama and romance instead of anything else.

I've not seen the show so correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the mole, "speedboat" or whatever they called him, working with the FBI to drop the drug charges? So most likely the cult would have been stopped anyway but the girl killed him and pulled the trigger herself thus gaining fame? I'm lost does this show have a relatable protagonist? Or is it just "Shit happens and it kinda sucked?"

Nope. If you listened carefully he was working for the state police. She had already been working for the FBI at this time and didn't think the state police could handle it or was worried he would blow her cover/sting somehow. You could be right as this was her revenge opportunity so she didn't want to lose it to speedwagon. So she tied up her loose ends just as Kai did.

the season was awesome up until the final 10 minutes where they completed fucked everything upside down,they could have killed off kai so much better than that or he could have even lived in another ending,also if the season didn't have misogynists,manwiches and all that bullshit it would have been SOOOO MUCH BETTER

This was my favorite of all seasons because of its commentary on our current political atmosphere in America, and the incredible performances by Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson.
This one is so scary just cus how real this is and how this is going in right now and also how it hit on so many problems of today like racism, feminism, vegans, homosexual etc
