The vocalist's sons, who had their own band called Brothers, made guest appearances in this performance. The first son started the song. The second appeared after the bridge. And the first vocalist of this band made a guest appearance (the older gentleman with blond hair - he died this year). This song was performed as a choir by another famous Polish singer Urszula. Overall, the song was written in a hurry in 1975. The band was founded in 1974.
Ok, so about the band: Budka Suflera was established in 1974, their history was complex, but this is one of their first songs. Through their playing they had multiple vocalists: Krzysztof Cugowski (here), Felicjan Andrzejczak (here as a guest, a month ago passed away), Romuald Czystaw (died in 2010), Stanisław Wenglorz and now - Robert Żarczyński and Jacek Kawalec. They had also women singing: Anna Jantar, Izabela Trojanowska, Urszula Kasprzak and now Irena Michalska. This gig was from they goodbye route, as they ended their activity in 2014, but in 2019 the leader and composer, Romuald Lipko, reactivated the band, and despote death of Lipko they're still playing (in June they organised 50th anniversary of set up). People, who performed that concert (in the order of being called in the end): Romuald Lipko - keyboard, composer, leader Tomasz Zeliszewski - drums (plays in Budka Suflera from the very beginning till today) Tania, Małgosia - choir (I don't know their full names) Łukasz Pilch - guitar Mirosław Stępień - bass guitar And guests: Mieczysław Jurecki - bass guitar, guitar - former member of the band Wojciech Cugowski - guitar, vocal - son of the mail singer Piotr Cugowski - vocal - son of the main singer Felicjan Andrzejczak - vocal - former member of the band, he sang the biggest hit of Budka, called Jolka, Jolka pamiętasz Krzysztof Cugowski - at that time main singer, who introduced the rest. I recommend viewing also: Memu miastu na do widzenia Jolka, Jolka pamiętasz (both from Woodstock 2014) Nie wierz nigdy kobiecie Czas ołowiu Noc komety Gdyby jutra nie było Planeta smoka Martwe morze Nowa wieża Babel Takie tango
Love this band, love this song. Lyrics are great. The lyrics describe a dramatic and poetic scene with Gothic overtones. It begins with a stormy night where the traveler encounters an empty mansion by the roadside. Amid the grandeur of nature, with "cathedrals of trees" and "helmets of mountains," there’s a Wagnerian tone. The eerie setting intensifies with cold, empty chambers behind stained glass. The narrator rekindles a fire as the storm rages on. Suddenly, a vibrant and surreal vision unfolds: a spectral "white lady" emerges from Gothic doors in a dazzling mist. Together, they dance in the desolate mansion. The imagery shifts to flight above mountains, with the lady holding a rose, emphasizing fleeting beauty and mystery. The refrain, "After the night comes the day, and after the storm, peace," highlights renewal and hope. As dawn breaks, birds awaken the narrator, signaling a return to reality and a lonely, empty house. A withered rose remains in hand, symbolizing a lingering memory of the mystical encounter.
You're right about that, the song is from 1975 and sounds similar to many songs from that time. It's just that in Poland we didn't have much access to the discography of Western bands from that time.
W 1975r w każdej szkole średniej a nawet w podstawówkach były zespoły rockowe!Kazdy z nas miał pełną wiedzę co jest modne na zachodzie.Radio Luksemburg było dla zachodu bo to tam nie puszczano rocka!W każdym Demoludzie wspomina się zespoły z tamtej epoki.Np.Omega,Lokomotiv GT,Modry Efekt itd.
In the 70's they also collaborated with Czesław Niemen, another great voice and ingenious composer. You'd definitely like his stuff. Strongly influenced by Hendrix, but he was taking the early rock stuff into the domain of symphonic progrock. Check out "Bema pamięci żałobny rapsod" (an actual 19th century poem made into a prog mastery), or more "classic" stuff: "Kwiaty polskie" and "Dziwny jest ten świat".
I like older singers. They have lived life and those experiences make their way into the way they sing. I don't care if they can't hit the high notes they could when they were younger. They more than make up for it by the passion in their songs. I enjoyed this, and I enjoyed the way the crowd was obviously into them.
You should see or listening the oryginał version from first year's of evolution Budka Suflera in 1975 y. There you can get nice and power of the voice of leader this band, Krzysztof Cugowski. In the your version from 2014 is singing father with his son.
Just from what you hear. You have amazing ears and amazing hearing, I see you're an experienced listener. This is (imo) the best Polish band of all time, and as I know the only Polish band who performed in Carnegie Hall
Budka Suflera means "a prompter's den" BTW, like, in theatre. Also, J in Polish is spelled as slightly longer English y :) Another great song of them from this period (70's) are "Szalony koń", "Lubię ten stary obraz" and "Noc nad Norwidem".
Hmn... I wonder if the rose was symbolic of the love for the woman and house is representative of his life or self. And when he dreams he goes beyond the walls of the house and its confines, and the rose turns to a healthy rose. But when he wakes reality withers the rose and turns the home empty and cold. He tries to warm it with fire in the hearth, by distracting himself, but the dream of what was or could be always returns. That's just my take on a first listen. ❤ I really like it.

Because they created in communism - unfortunately. There are many artists who created at the wrong time.
@@wojto75 " Bo tworzyli w komunizmie " - to jakichś idiotyzm! Co ma komunizm do tej muzyki? Przecież była emitowana i nagrywana!
That vocalist was 65 yo then. Now he is 75 and he still nails it with no flaws at all. Incredible performance.

Another tremendous Polish voice from this era: Stan Borys, with his hit song "Jaskółka uwięziona" (The Imprisoned Swallow).

I agree with you and some of those older singers can still hit the notes and some have actually increased their range!
