❤Erin and Jon, I pray that you never lose your passion for creating these utterly stunning, stirring, and inspirational videos for all of us to become immersed in (over and over!!)
There are no adequate words to express our collective heart felt THANKS!!!
MAY GOD BLESS YOU! ❤
Aw thank you so much Niki!! 💚💚 Truly appreciate that!
Here! Here!!
The night was scary...?
The night was scary...?
The dancing balls of water on the stove was a nice touch! The simple things are the best things.
Loved the slomo shots of Erin splitting logs. Her sister is a real trooper for joining you and honest enough to say it's not for her. It wouldn't be for me either. I don't like being cold, lt alone in -30 and lower temps. But, having said that, love living it vicariously through you! Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and warm and healthy. Happy New Year!
Thanks Maggie! Hahah it's too bad we got such brutal temps for the times we've planned to go out with her
That's the beauty of frozen dead trees. They split very easily. Took that poem in high school, lol.
Happy New Year Jon and Erin! In an age where it seems most outdoor content creators are trying so hard to impress us and be ‘influencers,’ you remain our favorites for just taking us along and telling us a story, without it seeming like we’re watching home movies. Bravo!
Greatly appreciate your support Brian!! Happy new year!
My Grandfather, departed for many years now, had "The Creation of Sam McGee" memorized and would recite it for us kids it every Christmas time when we'd visit. Thanks for that nice memory. Your camping trip looks wonderful! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year you two!
Happy new year XanMan!
After trying to work from home and manage the kids online school, I need this escape (and wine).
Hahaha I can only imagine!!
Hey Erin. I grew up chopping wood for our family's sole source of heat/cooking/hot water. It's a satisfying and gratifying feeling of accomplishment and self-reliance. Enjoy! Beats the hell out of a trip to the gym.
Hahah I'm sure she'd agree with you, and I certainly agree about the gym!
Yay!
You two make me laugh so much - many thanks for that.
Erin is comedy gold - 22:35
😆💚
Have a blessed new year...with knowledge, love, appreciation and humbleness...to all those who live to live such life....
I love you Canadians!! Stay frosty!!😎
Another great one. Really like this one actually, for 2 reasons; 1) Content (love winter hot tenting, especially when it's really cold)... and 2) The editing was amazing... those little cuts to the birds, scenery, and addition of music were so peaceful (anxiety reducing), and makes you feel closer to the actual environment there. Your hard work in the editing room is not going unnoticed :)
I really appreciate that Patrick!! :)
2:51 Beautiful capture of a Pine Grosbeak!👏
I was wondering what the name of that stunningly beautiful bird was. Thank you kindly.👋
Oh man I was tickled that it stayed in that spot for me to fix my lens on it and then flew perfectly out of frame...usually your frame lands on a bird and that's exactly when they leave lol
Great guys that would be a memorable show and a awesome way to bring in the new year.
What a great adventure! The production must have been just grueling at that temperature, but you made it seamless. Loved the igloo form what a great idea! Happy new year to you both, thanks so much for bringing us along and making us look forward to the next video every time!!!
A little tip-
Use those vinyl/surgical gloves when making bread. Keeps your hands clean and warm, and cleanup is as easy as taking them off! Carry a pair for each meal.
The sunlight twinkling on the new powder was so nostalgic I had to go get a shot of scotch to warm me up. These times don't last forever. Thank you for reminding us of the riches we once shared and carry with us still, like so many chapters in our personal coffee table book.
💚💚
I absolutely love it when i see true canadians on youtube and it makes be sooo happy!
Good Time... Hope you all have a blessed 2022.
My wife and I love you two. Great video it warmed my heart listening to the poems.
Thanks you two! 💚💚 Just a brilliant poem
Far northern igloo builders benefit from the element of natural compaction of the snow as it lays on the land longer, brushed by the strong winds of open vistas and cured hard by months of micro-melt from the arctic sun. Only thus can snow be building material. Thanks for a really fun vid!
Y'all are living a large life. So wonderful
Sorry I’ve been busy. I will try to resume my weekly binge watching and thumb upping.
😁😁
Man I have not heard Cremation of Sam McGee in a lot of years! Plus I really love that sound of super cold snow crunched under feet. I can listen to that all day long
Jack London, "to build a fire" would also be fitting to read by the fire. Awesome guys!
You fantastic two!! Your videos are so great! You both are young and you live probably in the best part of the world! I am 61 and I live in Switzerland, for many one of the fanciest countries in the world. Everything is glittering here, we have many paying tourists from India and China. Everythig is glorious, many think, we are the greatest.
Not me. We have no nature, no wilderness here anymore!! only money for some people matters, but not for the average man.
We have lost the simple life, the glory of the wilderness that we once had too. But not anymore. Now we have highways and heavy cars.
Now we are lost. Switzerland has 41288 sqare kilometers, and 8.6 million people, compare this to Canada!!
I would like to live the way you are living and I am envy of your lifestyle.
If I see the grandious beauty of your home, I tell you, money doesn't count that much.
Stay happy and in love Richard,
we had + 15 degees Celsius last week!!
Thank you so much Richard!! I empathize with you and completely agree...the world loses wilderness every day and we almost never get any back. It might take centuries but I fear Canada will be the same someday as societies always give in to the power of money
You really captured the essence of the experience. It was magnificent out there. So glad I got to see it. Loved the night sky and cremation of Sam McGee … it should be a new year tradition! Way to go Kesia!
Excellent and beautiful editing!
I couldn't think of a better way to ring in the new year! This is one of my favorite videos as it embodies all the intense beauty and fun of winter camping. I think my favorite part was Erin's sister reading The cremation of Sam Mcgee. She did a wonderful job!Thank you so much for bringing us along on this one. I loved it!
Had an old scout master that had that poem memorized and could recite it on a cold night around the 🔥. Nicely done.
That's awesome...just perfect for that setting
This was awesome and one of my favorite episodes! I am a huge fan of Les Stroud survivor man and his survival episodes in the Boreal forest. Maybe one day I will make it up there.
Thanks again Mike! I love it...feels so wild like a jungle
I love it. The scenery and blue skies are awesome. The night star shots incredible. Winter is so much fun when it's possible to get out during the daytime to have fun.
Absolutely loved watching this x so beautiful, peaceful and breathtaking. What a fantastic way to celebrate the new year, but boy what a chilly one. I appreciate all your efforts. Filming is tough at the best of times let alone at these extreme temperatures. Thank you for bringing this to us xxx
Thanks so much Helen! The batteries really do hate these temps
What a fun video !!!! Erin and her sister having fun together !
That was some extremely cold temps !!!!
Your very hard work does not got unnoticed!! You two make it look easy. Love your vids!! You deserve soooo many more subs!! Y’all are awesome!!
Really appreciate that Brenda!!!
Thank you and Happy New Year kids!!!
Wonderful! Wonderful trip to do with your sister too! Glad family got to see camp and the igloo looks like it will work well in the future! Cold, cold! Thanks for sharing!
Oh so cool in so many ways, thank you for sharing in hopes of a better new year to you both.!
That igloo build blew me away!!! You couldn't give the builder to a child, but I'll bet it brought you back to your childhood days?
Hahah absolutely...really want to try again
If anyone can convince someone to try camping either winter or summer it is you and Erin. Your videos are always so innovative and fun. NEVER BORING. You’s make it seem so effortless although I know it is extremely hard. Such beautiful pics of the stars and the beauty around you’s. Thank you so much for taking us along😘
Another awesome video! You guys gotta do whole igloo! That box/tool was really cool
Thanks a lot Adam! You can bet we will not stop trying til we get one done lol
So great to see Erin’s family join in. I always smile so much watching your videos - the views, the humor, your passion for it all. Such great videos!
Thanks so much Wendy!!
love yer vids greets from the netherlands! im skipping winter for the 2nd time in 2 years , goint 2 the canarian islands nice and warm . helps missin the cold ....
That Pine Grosbeak was gorgeous! Fun video!
What a great way to ring in the new year! Thank you for letting us be a part of the trip. I was smiling the whole time.
😁 Thanks for joining us Tim!!
I think Jon looks a lot like Christopher Johnson McCandless from bus 142, a boy who loves nature and has a big smile
💚
I want to grow up to emulate Erin! Lol. She has awesome skills, a fabulous sense of adventure, and totally enjoys the process. Now, I just need to find my Jon. ;-) Thanks to both of you for sharing your experiences with us!
Hahah aw 💚 I find it painful to even imagine if one of us hadn't swiped right, so I guess you'll just have to keep swiping right---literally or figuratively :) Thanks as always Rae!
What a nice way to spend New Year's Eve. Loved the champagne toast & throwing hot water & watching it freeze. The igloo looked great. Nice block building tool. Never saw that before. You'll finish one next time. Really looked cold, but you all had a nice time. Best wishes in the new year!
Thanks Jon. Happy New Year to you and Erin.
Happy New Year to you both, Erin and Jon. Looks like a lot of fun dispite the cold temperatures. I have never winter camped before, but I think to truly appreciate hot tent camping, you need those cold temperatures. It looked very cozy inside the tent and it looked like you probably fed the fire for most of the night. Lots of work but well worth it.
Everyone heard that? *Cut to venting the tent* lol
Thanks for the laughs and fantastic poems.
Hahaha thanks a lot Mike!
Another great video. Can't wait to see you build another igloo, that was pretty cool! All the best in 2022. Looking forward to seeing the channel grow.
Happy New Year, Erin and Jon! As ever, your passion and zeal for our shared wilderness is beautifully evident. Your ability to capture and convey what you see and feel is truly inspiring. Sending you both lots of gratitude and positive vibrations as we begin another Trip around the sun . . .
Greatly appreciate that Joshua!! Happy new year!
Y’all are BRAVE and wonderful! So much here to love and admire your fortitude, sense of fun, and adventure no matter what the conditions. Oh to be in my 30’s again ( or 40’s 0r 50’s LOL). The best NYE I ever spent was in my late teens snowshoeing in the woods of NH with snow falling an big beautiful moon above with a great friend 💜🥂 Thanks again for all you do!!!
That's heaven, and that much more special with someone you love.
Happy 2022🥳
Pure magic. Purple Finch was a nice treat. Wishing you and Erin and family a very happy new year.
Thanks ET! Was that one a pine grosbeak? We've seen a lot of them this winter. Happy new year!
@@LostLakes ya I think you're right. Very similar birds. Purple Finch breed just North of Superior and can be seen year round throughout the lake and south. But looking closer at the plumage I would agree with you.
Great as always ! Always enjoy your winter outings. Summer ones too of course ! Nice to see “RUclipsrs” using a heavy duty stove for winter camping. Can’t beat them in our Canadian winters. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.
That igloo mold is super cool! And awesome video as always with stunning golden hour footage 😊. Keep them coming and happy new year!
What a beautiful place to bring in the New Year! Happy New Year to you both, thanks for sharing. :) :)
Happy New Year Jon and Erin. Loved the video, that Igloo form is too cool!! I think I might snare one of those.lol. Wishing you all the best for 2022. Cheers!
Thanks and happy new year Andrew!! Pretty cool but takes some practice for sure...we're looking forward to a rematch with the tool :)
"There's a whisper on the night-wind, there's a star agleam to guide us, and the wild is calling, calling...let us go"
Compelled me to look that up...another beauty from Service!
You continue to inspire me through your videos. It's always a joy to see a new upload. Happy New Year you two! I hope you guys got time for even more adventures together this year. All the best!
Very much appreciated AF!! Happy new year!
Just great.... Now I want a hot tent. Thanks a lot.
You better marry that woman before she wakes up! lol Happy New Years to you both!
Hahah on it! 😜 Happy new year!
Happy New Year! Thanks for always making such wonderful videos that help those of us stuck in suburban life to get a window into the wonderful outdoors!
Much appreciated Daniel!! Happy new year!
This was fun, the way you took to the little moments, like dancing water on the stove. But I was thinking that I want to rewatch the video where Erin breaks the ice with her legs while pulling the canoe..epic video. You are made of sturdy material fersure .
Happy New Year! Crazy Good video and appreciate all the beautiful videos and the shared adventures! Interesting to see how that Igloo maker works. Be nice to see it completed when you guys ever get the chance. Cheers!
20:07 at first i thaught he smokes a bong 🙈🙈
had to replay, to see that its just the champagne bottle, and the smoke is from the oven 😂😂😂
Great presentation. Have a safe and happy one.
Once again, thank you so much for sharing with us all your "slide" into 2022. As my fam would say (well some members at least) Guten Rutsch!
One of my favorite from Robert Service. Read the Ballad of Blasphemous Bill I love that one too. Looks like you guys had fun...too cold for me!
We could feel the joy from you all, the beautiful blue sky and white trees were stunning, will trade you a well used canoe paddle for the both of them… lol… cheers
😝😝
Happy New Year! So many great things about this video....the cool igloo tool - who knew? Spectacular scenery, sister time, poetry, boiling water “art”, delicious food, playing in the snow, dancing water droplets on the stove - what a great way to bring in the new year. Outstanding edit, Jon.
Really appreciate that April!! Happy new year!
Great video folks, thanks for taking us along :) All the best in 2022.
Thanks a lot BW and same to you!
Cheers Erin,Jon👍😎👍
Cheers Jerry!
Love your content and the fact that that it is truly high quality. You don't need nor try to sell your channel by flaunting yourselves. I commend you for keeping the value real
Really appreciate that BJ!!!
What an awesome video. Nature is amazing. So beautiful. Thanks. Happy New Year.
Ah my favorite camping experience. Winter cold camping it’s so quite, solitude, no rude people just beautiful scenery, wildlife. Erin is pretty good with that splittiNg maul. The igloo looks like a lot of work but you need something to keep you busy. I’m sure it was a lot of work. You might want to take some scotch next time instead of red wine. Happy new year guys love ya.
And when you get those cold, sunny days with everything snow-coated, it's just blissful :) The igloo is a lot of work but we're excited to try again. Oh there was scotch too 😅 Thanks as always John and happy new year to you!
Amazing fun. Enjoy your time and the beautiful mystical journey. 🌸
Thanks Robin! 🙂🙂
Another excellent video John, looking forward to you guys building that igloo. Happy new year!!
Another beautiful peace of work Jon.. Tons of great content as usual, & as usual, I find it extremely difficult to leave a short comment because of it lol..
You guys are great, Happy New Year 🥂
New subscriber here. Man I love this. When u r surrounded by buildings, watching this is so cathartic. Thnks man..keep'em coming 🙌
Much appreciated Kevin! I grew up in Toronto so I feel ya
I really loved the background music in this one. You used it so well!
Really appreciate that Scott!
Well done once again guys!
Thanks Stephen!
Great trip and amazing visuals as always, Jon and Erin.
If you don't mind some observations about your igloo build from someone who's used the Icebox Igloo Tool for many years, I have a couple:
I noticed the yellow and red toggle handle was hanging beneath the pole at times (when building the ramp) and noticed that again when you were working on level 3. The toggle handle should rest on top of the pole, so it doesn't pop out of position and cause the form to spread before you are completed the block and ready to release it. In good snow packing conditions, that doesn't matter a great deal, but in very dry, granular snow conditions, you want that form clamped tight around the block you are building or else the loose snow will pour out the inside bottom.
The 10' igloo is an ambitious first build. Lots of blocks in that one! But the good news is, you were actually MORE than halfway completed since the lowest courses contain so many more blocks than the upper courses. Had you set out to build the 8-footer, which would accommodate both of you comfortably, you likely would have completed it shortly after dark. So, great work and I look forward to seeing you camping in your first completed igloo. Please hit me up with questions about the tool, if you have any.
Cheers and all the best to you both this new year,
- Martin
Just the person I needed to hear from, thanks for this Martin! I'm quite certain we would have continued using the toggle upside down for years to come if you hadn't said that😂 We tried an 8ft igloo first near home (without filming) and just built the first couple of rows to hopefully prepare us for this outing (and watched your vids, Icebox's, and others) but evidently we still have a lot to learn about this...but we're excited to try again :) The 8ft footprint looked rather small when we began it and I felt like I wouldn't be able to sleep in it at 6'4", but I think we'll try 8ft again next time in the interests of just getting one done. We made some human error mistakes with ones we've started but one of our biggest problems still is having blocks crumble when shifting the form. The snow has been dry and we read in the instructions about applying 7lbs of pressure and how to make the snow lock (and we release the toggle and u-bar of course), but that's a skill we're going to have to work on. Thanks again Martin, always welcome your insight! If you see anything else, we're all ears 👂👂👂👂
@@LostLakes Hmmm, at 6' 4", you would be fine in the 8 footer, since that is the interior diameter, but it would mean you would want to sleep more or less along the centerline of the igloo, with Erin off to the side a bit. But, you could always make a 9 footer, which wouldl be more than roomy for you both. Remember, an igloo is a heat trap because it insulates well, but the heat it traps is generated by your body heat and cooking, so you don't want it to be more spacious than necessary, as that means more cold air you must warm. Too large an igloo is needlessly cold, as the body heat spreads and cools faster than it can accumulate in all that cold air.
There are tips for preventing crumbling blocks, but I would almost need to see what you were doing and what the snow was like (though I think I got a sense of the latter from your video). Hit me up on FB for video call sometime of you want some tips and pointers.
Cheers,
-Martin
@@PineMartyn That's good to know, I wasn't sure if the igloo sizes were the inside or outside diameter. 9ft might be the sweet spot for me if Erin's there...I hate the thought of brushing walls easily with my heat or feet and dusting them with snow repetitively through the night if I drift one way or the other. But I think we'll try the 8ft next time...welcome your feedback on that one too. Thanks again!!
The thumbnail looks incredible!
Absolutely killed it!
Thank you!!
Cool , ha,ha . Remindes me of my winter back packing in Montana years ago , expect I was not near as well equipped . A good new year to you and yours .
Hahah we're fortunate to have a pretty solid kit for this :) Same to you Richard!
I had a big stupid smile all the time watching this video , many cute moments 🙂 thanks for sharing guys...and girls
Hahah thanks for joining us Sylvain!
I'm just gonna say it. Holiday season, aluminum pole, Frank Costanza would be proud!
LOL opportunity missed! I got a lotta problems with you people!
Loving the uploads, pure escapism from normal life, thank you so much and Happy New Year to you both
Much appreciated!! Happy new year!
Another year, another beautifully captured and edited video! Love the pine grosbeaks. Your videos always bring me a sense of calm during these crazy times. I'm planning to get up there possibly for a fourth time this summer for some car camping.
Greatly appreciate that DoO! Been a great year for grosbeak sightings around here
Awesome... champagne in the Amok cup.... nice!... cheers!
Thank you thank you
I had to memorize a good portion of that poem in middle school!! I had pretty much forgotten about it till now...
Hahah a great one to know!
One of my faves by Robert Service.
The things Canadians get up to in the depths of winter still amaze me even after 20 odd years of living here. Love ever minute.🥶❤
I have to give props to Erin with her wood splitting capabilities. Seemed far superior than when you tried! 🤣. Erin your sister did good but I understand not liking the extreme conditions. Great video!!!
A great way to start the New Year! 😃❄️
happy new year, all the best in 2022, Bob
