    I like the looks of this bike. Ok, it has a muffler only a mother could love, but easy fixes abound. I hope Suzuki supplies a nice cruise control and also a steering damper - and of course the quick shifter. Optional windshields and seats would be nice too. Another option would be tubeless tires and spoked rims (lightweight). And speaking of lightweight, how about take a clue from the top bicycle manufacturers who offer the same basic bike with two or three different frame materials (steel, aluminum, carbon fiber). Of course the price jumps for a bike that weights 40-50 lbs less than the base model, but personally, I would pay a few $k extra for the lightest bike. I'm 73, so I want my 'last bike' to be righteous.

    • @nestserau
      @nestserau Год назад

      Good thoughts! Motorcycle manufacturers can certainly borrow a thing or two from the bicycle industry. However I’m afraid providing same bike with different frame materials would make the price forbidding for everyone. Like if you look at the price of carbon bikes, they can easily cost as a motorcycle that has thousands of extra parts. So I’m afraid motorcycle frame size and material choice is not coming anytime soon.

    This new 800 DE and the Transalp kind of beg the question what the 1050 and Africa Twin are for. It seems like both of these new bikes will crowd their bigger brothers? Small ~20ish Horsepower difference and comparable suspension specs. I suppose the 1050 and AT have a little bit nicer electronic packages but is it worth it for the (I'm guessing) much larger price?
    I'm super excited to pick up the 800DE or 1050DE once it arrives though!

    • @kingdan7458

      I imagine in a year or two Suzuki with throw the K5 engine from the GSX S1000 into the v strom 1050 frame. They will just gear it for massive low end torque and still have 125 ish HP at the real wheel.
      This would mean that mean suzuki reduces the number of engines they are building and the engine that is in there is good for emissions rating for a few years. Plus it's been proven reliable and sporty performer. It only makes great sense even if it is driven by Euro5 and 6 standards.

  • @jaywhoisit4863
    @jaywhoisit4863 Год назад +10

    This bike doesn’t come to market for another few months. All the negativity about cruise control might prompt Suzuki to update the electronic package to include it. But I’ve never understood why cruise is so important. My hand doesn’t leave the throttle when I’m riding so what makes the cruise control so special? On my Vstrom 1000 the throttle is so light I just rest my palm on the grip and it stays perfectly at that speed.

    • @ttahola
      @ttahola Год назад +2

      That's a valid question and there's a simple answer. I can live without a cruise control when commuting. But I wouldn't consider buying a newish adventure bike that does not have a cruise control or an option for one. Traveling 1000 km (or miles) a day on a straight road is never fun, but that's one part of the job for a real adventure bike for me. We have really nice roads and a lot to explore in Finland, but still part of the fun is to travel to central or southern Europe occasionally (googling 'Via Baltica' will make you see my problem:). And to keep myself awake and in good spirit in those travels, I need to change my riding position a lot, move my legs and arms whenever the road is empty. If I'm able to release the throttle for a few seconds to do that, then great. Without a cruise control, my right hand and shoulder is usually sore for several days after long trips, no matter how much I change my grip.
      Considering the competition, there's already a good range of mid size adventure bikes that have a cruise at least as an option. For example Tuareg 660, DesertX, Tiger 800/900, Adventure (R) 790/890, Norden 901... Maybe Suzuki does not expect to sell too many of these to cover the development cost for fancy electronics, we will see.

    • @jaywhoisit4863
      @jaywhoisit4863 Год назад

      @@ttahola I find it strange that your throttle hand and shoulder get sore after riding longer distances. I personally have long arms and every motorcycle I’ve ever owned needed adjustment to the bar height and back/forward in order to get it comfortable. But I’ve always managed to get that sweet spot with a few tweaks and adjustments. If anything I get sore lats from presumably pushing against the wind for hours on end.

    • @ttahola
      @ttahola Год назад +1

      @@jaywhoisit4863 Yeah, usually I don't have any major issues. Only when riding long distance legs with fixed schedule, like 1000 km a day for several days in a row. Or even a 1000 miles in 24 hours (the basic iron butt ride), especially in cold weather. Or even shorter distances on a smaller bike that don't have that much room for rider and smaller engines tend to have more vibration on the handlebar as well. I'm still learning to ride, so it could be lack of experience. But while I'm learning, I'd like to fix whatever I can, including adding a cruise control. Replacing my naked bike with a custom/cruiser would probably take some pressure from my throttle hand and wrist, but then I doubt my back would hold together on longer travels. And taking a custom bike to trackdays is probably not something I would enjoy. You'd really need like 5 different bikes for different rides... So far an adventure bike feels like the best compromise for any posture issues, but right now I only have a smaller naked bike (MT-07). It's sure better than nothing. Adding more days to a week would also help, I'm usually in some sort of a hurry back home from my travels so I just want to ride as far as I can before turning back.

    • @jaywhoisit4863
      @jaywhoisit4863 Год назад +1

      @@ttahola 5 different bikes would be my dream!! 😂. But you’re correct, if you’ve only got one choice, get an adventure bike. They are super adjustable and customizable to every personal preference. And the upright seating with longer suspension sure make long journeys easier. It’s always nice to know you can turn off the pavement and attack the backroads whenever the adventure spirit hits you.

    Companies still don't get the memo. WE want a light machine, with technology where it matters (abs, suspension, screen and performance), 21 inch front, 60-75 hp, good fuel capacity, good offroad capabilities, and lightweight. The cruice control doesn't matter, the ride by wire, the decals won't matter, the robotic headlight, none of that garbage that just bump up the price. The T7 ticks almost all of those things and it's the best of the bunch even with their production problems. Imagine, to name one, a KLR with the versys machine tuned up for adventure? Killer seller.

      @@philc9305 That's more an issue than the Suzuki... McCruise are Australian, they'll definitely make C/C for a bike, if Suzuki doesn't... will the Transalp(usually a European bike) be sold Down Under? Wait and see!

    I don't know how Suzuki did it, but some way, some how, they managed to cut 2 cylinders off the 2005 GSXR1000 motor to make this! After all, isn't it canon at Suzuki that everything "new" has to have that engine in it? 😊 Seriously though, I am pleasantly surprised that Suzuki is finally coming up with totally new motorcycles after a very, very long time.

      @@maldridge7630 If you thought I was serious after putting a smiley face and then saying "seriously though", I apologize for not making the joke more obvious. I was merely poking fun at the fact that most of Suzuki's recent models have had a version of the K5 engine in them. Maybe it isn't deceit that has become part of people's DNA, but an automatic assumption of such, which saddens me. Let's focus on the fact that motorcycles are awesome, no matter how they come to be.
