That is a heck of a game in a little book. I do like the statement - it's not hard to count arrows, but I can see using it for ration in a cross-country trek.
    I shall choose Chaos

I should start rolling thats-it-dice (Ud) in my work life, every time, something pisses me off. Once I reach zero, I go home.

3:19 Nailed It! My mind is indeed racing with various uses for a “usage die” - thank you for making the video and sharing some of the mechanics

Lol, I always do stuff like that when I'm in a silly mood and then people actually like it, which I think is hilarious.

It's a great take-it-everywhere book! Mine has been Knave 2, because if nothing else, the tables are good inspiration for writing.

      @@ElderGoblinGames agreed!
I have not yet had the chance to have Knave 2E physically except as a printed booklet so I also take it everywhere with BSH as a companion for its easy and organized table

I was only exposed to the decreasing ammo die recently. IIRC it usually is a 1 instead of a 1 or 2. Though I like the 1-2 odds of the Doom Die much better as I feel it adds more nailbiting tension. I'm very curious who came up with this concept first because even Black Sword hack admits that they borrowed it. It's so flexible! It can be pretty much used for tracking any kind of resource without nitpicking or excessive paperwork. It's giving me all kinds of ideas already!

Not sure about the origin TBH. That's a good question though

🎲 we adopted usage dice (aka stock dice) at our table as part of the dungeoneering system - torches, rations, tool kits (e.g., healers kit, herbalist kit, cooks utensils) - we also have used them for magic item charges - there are lots of cool dials - raise or lower the decrementation number (e.g., 1 , 1-2, 1-3), add a final level (i.e., after they decrement a d4, there’s 1 use left) - incorporate explosive dice/an incrementation mechanic (i.e., if you roll a 4 on your Ud4, it grows to a Ud6) - allow advantage or disadvantage on rolls - there are entire game systems built on usage dice - an excellent system ❤

I really like the UD. I am always super bad when it comes to making up a timer, either doing it way too short or way too long, so now I just let the dice decide, that way its exciting for me and my players. I have a adventure right now where players are part of an agency and they got multiple quests, so I will just put a UD on ever quest where I roll a UD (starting with a 1d10) every week to see when they run out, or if another agency was faster than them at doing it.
I like the doom mechanic, since it feels like the luck stat from CoC, but in a dice format (dice are more fun and involve luck). Though I have no clue how I would implement it in my prefered System (PF2e), besides for very explicit moments, or adventures to set up a more dreadful mood.

For the Doom mechanic, it could be as simple as every time that you use something like a hero point they have to roll their current doom die. Then if it goes down, they get closer to the doomed condition.
But that's only if you want to have a sort of threat of the doomed condition. It could also be a way to boost (or use) a spell or increase a roll as a risk that automatically lowers their doom die one step.
And you could either have the doom die reset each session, or at the end of a long rest.

@@ElderGoblinGames I really really like the hero point idea. Though it would need to carry over sessions and without resetting, since at my table my players use 2 hero points at top a session. The result of reaching their doom will probably have narrative consequences, or long lasting lingering ones, though maybe I should use two dice pools since on avg 30 hero points to reach the doom point over my long campaigns isnt THAT much.
I really like the series. Even though I am not a fan of rules light Systems its cool to see that there is stuff that can make my game (which isnt rules light at all) better. Are you planning to also cover non rules light Systems?

    • @ElderGoblinGames
      @ElderGoblinGames  3 месяца назад +1

@@coolboy9979 I do like a few non-rules light systems (Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay comes to mind) I just haven't had as much time or energy for them lately. A lot of that has gone away with having a kid and making RUclips videos. Though that game definitely deserves a Steal From video.
Glad you're enjoying it. There are just so many systems out there it's hard to give them all a proper shake down, but I'll get to some bigger books eventually.
