      @Faizan Younas the u2 is no longer in service in the military, but yes it still is in NASA as a high altitude research plane and not a spy plane. it has a tandem landing gear for the same reason as this plane here, to save weight.

    • @numnut1516
      @numnut1516 4 года назад

      Faizan Younas no it doesn’t... why would you say that? There is no footage of that happening, it never happened. idk how you could be confused unless you never looked it up or are just making shit up Lol. Either way it doesn’t excuse you from posting such ignorance ( especially when you could have fact checked it right here on RUclips look it up). It uses fall away wheels.
      It does have a chase car though, I think they use Chevy Camaros in the USA and some BMW a 3 series I think but I’m not sure. Also, no I’m not looking it up, I said that I didn’t know; I did not state it as a fact. Try saying something like “i think the U2 spy plane uses dudes on bikes too” next time... or don’t because that’s fucking retarded.

      Marvincent Acuña
      Actually solar panels (especially future multi juction with 60-70% estimated efficienty) can add to flight time of the plane depending on how long it stays in the air, By covering the plane you can maybe squeeze in that extra 5% air time to take less solid state batteries with you so you can add in more people. The panels are very light btw.
      Solar powered airplanes aren't feasable unless you want something private in the future that goes above the clouds at slow speeds and has a reasonable size with retractable heli props for easy landings so that it can be used as hobby/long term but nearly free transport. But honestly in that sense I could see it being used by the average joe with a pilot license to save some money on plane tickets :p.

    Just in case they had to abort and crash into the ocean.
    Or better yet, get a large enough ship with enough space to land that thing on it, and given it's just as fast as the plane, it could land like a helicopter.

      +Thomas Newton Unfortunately, buying a gas car is cheaper than buying an electric car right now (for example). I think they'll try and just lower fuel prices in the future to stay relevant. It's true through, all throughout history projects and pieces of technology have been shut down by the big corps and such.

    For Solar energy planes to be even remotely viable for the industry, we need more efficient solar panels.
    This was just a plane with skeleton structures and 1 pilot but it is a proof of concept nonetheless.

    • @haxney
      @haxney 5 лет назад +1

      Solar panels are around 20-22% efficient these days. Even if they could be 100% efficient and that translated directly to a five-fold increase in top speed (which it wouldn't), the top speed would be a measly 140 mph. Commercial jets today fly at around 500 mph.
      The problem is that solar power just isn't very concentrated. Fossil fuels are great because they are essentially pre-concentrated solar power that is easy to turn into usable energy.

      Jimmy Vega: Yes, it's just like those crazy cyclists, the Wrights. They managed to build a stick and cloth contraption which they succeeded in catapulting into the air for 12 seconds from a wooden launch ramp. They then had the temerity to suggest that air travel was the transportation method of the future. With a widely developed road system, a network of rail links -plus shipping routes covering the globe, surely anyone can see that such a concept would be a non-starter!
