Roky Erickson (born Roger Kynard Erickson on July 15, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter, harmonica player and guitarist from Texas. He was a founding member of the "13th Floor Elevators" and pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre.
My wife and I had the good fortune to see Roky perform at the Casbah (San Diego) a couple years ago, probably only a year before his passing. I'd been a fan for some time but it was the first and only chance I had to see him. Small club, intimate setting, only maybe 100 people were there. Great first and only experience to see one of the underground's great treasures. Thank you Roky.
Roky was Punk Rock before Punk Rock really existed.
And he pioneered Acid Rock.
This man gets none of the love he deserves.
