hey AV i live there and i thought i should drop some info about the city. Canakkale - "canak" meaning pot and "kale" meaning fortress, has territory in both Asia and Europe like İstanbul. It's the nearest major urban center to the ancient city of Troy, which (together with the ancient region of the Troad) is located inside Çanakkale Province(thats the city of troy you see in 8:07 ). The wooden horse from the movie Troy was gifted later on( 6:50 ).And at 9:30 Assos is a small historically rich town in Ayvacık district of the Çanakkale province. Much of the surrounding area is visible from the ancient Temple of Athena (10:40), built on top of a trachyte crag. The view from this temple on a clear day extends to nearby Lesbos in the south, Pergamum in the southeast, and Mount Ida (very important mountain in Greek mythology) in Phrygia in the east. To the northwest, two massive Hellenic columns still mark the gate to the city. Çanakkale itself was built as a fortress in 1462 by Mehmed II Fatih, who gave it the name Kale-I Sultaniye (Fortress of the Sultan), since one of the Sultan's sons had collaborated in its construction. Sited on a bay at the narrowest point of the strait, it, together with another nearby fort, Kilid Bahr(you see at 4:05 and its shaped like a three leaf clover), provided an excellent position for controlling traffic through the Dardanelles. The two forts were quickly called in the travel literature "The Castles", and a town developed to the north-east, settled by Armenian refugees and Spanish Jews. During the First World War, the battle of Canakkale (Gallipoli War, 1915) took place there. That trojan horse which you saw at first is a replica for the movie. it is in that location for a display because it is kind of a symbol of Çanakkale. it is recognized by many countries thanks to this symbol and many tourists come here to see and take pictures with that trojan horse. Historical place that you see after 8:00 is Troia Ancient City and the real trojan horse is displayed there.

Canakkale - "canak" meaning pot and "kale" meaning fortress, has territory in both Asia and Europe like İstanbul. It's the nearest major urban center to the ancient city of Troy, which (together with the ancient region of the Troad) is located inside Çanakkale Province(thats the city of troy you see in 8:07 ). The wooden horse from the movie Troy was gifted later on( 6:50 ).And at 9:30 Assos is a small historically rich town in Ayvacık district of the Çanakkale province. Much of the surrounding area is visible from the ancient Temple of Athena (10:40), built on top of a trachyte crag. The view from this temple on a clear day extends to nearby Lesbos in the south, Pergamum in the southeast, and Mount Ida
(very important mountain in Greek mythology) in Phrygia in the east. To the northwest, two massive Hellenic columns still mark the gate to the city.
Çanakkale itself was built as a fortress in 1462 by Mehmed II Fatih, who gave it the name Kale-I Sultaniye (Fortress of the Sultan), since one of the Sultan's sons had collaborated in its construction. Sited on a bay at the narrowest point of the strait, it, together with another nearby fort, Kilid Bahr(you see at 4:05 and its shaped like a three leaf clover), provided an excellent position for controlling traffic through the Dardanelles. The two forts were quickly called in the travel literature "The Castles", and a town developed to the north-east, settled by Armenian refugees and Spanish Jews.
During the First World War, the battle of Canakkale (Gallipoli War, 1915) took place there. Turkish forces under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, battled and that's how Canakkale earned its name as "Canakkale: un-passable".( 2:45 thats a little poem in forest on Gallipolli side of the city;

There is a special monument for Anzac soldiers and there is letter for the mothers of the soldiers from Atatürk and ı must share with you

That trojan horse which you saw at first is a replica for the movie. it is in that location for a display because it is kind of a symbol of Çanakkale. it is recognized by many countries thanks to this symbol and many tourists come here to see and take pictures with that trojan horse. Historical place that you see after 8:00 is Troia Ancient City and the real trojan horse is displayed there.
