I use black tape and put the sticky part outward. Then I put a fly strip on the tape, the sticky on fly roll strips last all summer till the apples come off. The masking tape gets soft and glues to the tree.

Very useful, especially coming from the far north in nz. Have planted 3 apple and one crab apple tree and wanted to make sure I looked after them. Even your months match with mine, so I don't have to do any calculations about when to do what. Thank you!

Tip for masking tape that tears - 30 seconds in the microwave. Loosens the glue when it's cold outside

Hi. Thanks for this video. Is the frame for your netting polypipe? I thought it would get soft in the summer heat and loose its shape?

I messed up and put the trunk guard directly on the trunk without masking tape. Any tips on how to clean it off the trunk?

Thanks Vasili, lovely, clear instructions: can you do a video on pear trees and pests, please?

I wonder how a plastic wrap would do instead of tape

Great video, it has helped me a lot re codling moth. Can you please do a video on how to prune a fruit tree to achieve the shape in your videos. I have been told it is how folk from Mediterranean countries prune, so that the height is limited and the branches grow down, not up.

What if you put a cotton gauze on before the tape? I used traps for the first time last year and almost all of my fruit has scaby moth holes. Gonna be all over it this year

I like to take a piece of cardboard about a foot tall and wrap it around the base of the tree, and then smear Vaseline all over it. Works pretty good, but I also hang old oil bottles from the tree that has a few small holes drilled out that's just big enough for the coddling moth to fit inside but not big enough for other more important insects. I fill them with molasses and water. Lots and lots of bird feeders also. Nothing kills more moths than birds do. Kaolin clay is another great practice. The clay will get any insects antenna all sticky. Excellent for the notorious plum circulio (grrr)
