Already started mass producing these! Thanks to my sisters kids for keeping me with a steady supply of empty kinder eggs, will be fun to play around with =) A like from me, thanks for the idea mate!
Whistling arrows are a very old Asian and Siberian invention. I've built two traditional ones out of willow wood. I love the Kinder egg variation on them, though. :-)
When the Samurai first encountered the Mongols on the battlefield on Tsushima island, one of these whistling arrows was fired in the sky to mark the start of battle and to intimidate the invaders. The Mongols had their own custom, and began to close on the Japanese warriors on the beat of similarly intimidating war drums. I have listened to more traditional whistling arrows, and with this video too, I get a good sense of how they sounded hundreds of years ago.
Tried this with 8 holes around the sides in a ring around the middle and it works great! Any more holes that this outside the middle ring and it does not whistle any more.
This is a Turkish arrow called Otken made by Mete Khan, Göktürks (B. C. 209). It's use for calculating the range at battlefield and frighten the enemy.
Sehr geil habe ich heute auch gebaut macht voll bock . Eine frage wie gross sind den die löcher ich würde gerne noch ens bauen aber so das der sound schriller ist .
That question has been asked already but I couldn't find the answer. What bow are you shooting What is the make and model and the poundage as the arrows are flying nice Thanks
OK, he doesn't told a story of whistling arrows. Those been used in Russia for hunting. Those arrows been carved out of tree and made in shape of predator bird, no wings obviously. Hunter would shut arrow over lake, making aquatic birds land, where they would escape by diving. And after that hunters easily shot those birds on water
+Sirwan Qutbi Historical purpose was for signalling. Although if you had a few hundred guys loosing them you could probably give the enemy a bit of a scare as well.
+Sirwan Qutbi The first whistling arrows used by Turks (Mete Han) againist Chinese army. it gave them one of the first psycholocigal superiority in wars.İt was too scary when Chinse army heard this sounds they tought a big curse coming on them and suddenly they laid down on the ground. İmagine thousands of whitling arrows coming on you.
Not a Mongol bow. Mongol bows had static siyahs with a string bridge. That bow is a recurve with working tips. Looks more akin to a traditional Korean bow.
Just for fun, and some chinese archers use them for funerals, celebrations, and for hunting animals (the animal react the way they want at hearing the sound of the whistle arrow).
When migrating or aquatic birds fly overhead. Shoot this arrow straight up into the air and the birds will think there is a predator such as a falcon and land. Allowing for an easier kill for an otherwise fleeing target.
imagine hearing that come towards you in the battle field lol
Yes Mongolians used this to cause hysteria in the battlefield.
Turks and Huns used this as demoralisation. They fired 20.000 Whistle Arrows at the same time

Imagine hearing 50 of those flying towards you on the battlefield 😬
The Gokturks and Ottomans fired 20.000 of them at the same time as demoralisation
The elves should've used these at Helms deep.
To scare orcs?
1000 years ago in a Mongolian village
Boy: Stop whistling.
Other boy: That’s not me...
Just made one and the results are fantastic! Can't wait to try some longer ranges! Thank you 😁
