John Pruitt was such an enigmatic character, you could never quite tell whether his motives were purely benevolent or not, he had a darkness that seemed to have corrupted his intentions
His intentions were pure, his actions unintentionally corrupted. He tragically did wrong without realizing it, because he truly believed he was right. Only in the end, during the chaos of the bloodbath, did he realize the monstrosity of what he had done. Of what he had become. And regreted deeply. Unfortunately, it was his Christian beliefs and need in finding a new hope to live, to move on, that misled him to the exactly the opposite of what he desired to do.
his motive was his love for mildred and his daughter in the end, mike flanagan has said as much in interviews. he described john's thinking as "this is how i can save the woman i love and have a second chance. i've lived this life as a servant of god, and now god has given me a way to bring her back. this is a new covenant, all the old rules are gone. my whole family can be reunited with this miracle, which means god must approve of it. what an incredible gift and miracle."
If you think this way I highly recommend watching the anime "Vinland Saga"! It's in my opinion the second best piece of media ever created after Attack on Titan :D
Everything's perfect in this show. It is beyond entertainemrnt, beautiful piece of horror. Every actor were picked perfectly, even the teens. And (spoiler alert), the actress playing the dr and the actor playing the priest have the same type.of dark features. Great edit !!❤ Also, as a muslim, it was so heartwarming and relatable to see the sheriff and his son and how they go back to each other in the end. It was nothing but a cult from the beginning.
Midnight mass is my favorite piece of art ever. I've seen michalego"s sculptures in real life. Midnight mass says everything about everything. I'm scared how good it is. May it live forever. I love it......
Watched this show for the first time this week, what beauty, what production, what acting, I want to thank Mike Flanagan for creating the show and Hamish Linklater for breathing so much life into it and its most pivotal character.
This is the moral ambiguity I enjoy in morally gray characters. He’s not just a complicated hero, he’s a bordering antagonist who believes he’s the hero and there’s so much good in him but he’s so so wrong
Imagine being 80 and then waking up to find you are 35-odd years younger. No wonder he thought/wanted to think it was an angel. I suspected he was the same man as the old priest pretty early on but the reveal of his b&w photograph in the background was still pretty damn effective.
I don't even like priests in real life, and boy does Fr Paul have lines that proves my point, especially to and about Riley. But holy shit, his character arc was so compelling and tragic which still kept me invested . And of course, the charisma and the insanely good acting from Linklater, like...fuck Honestly, with that all said and my own religious trauma, this literally one of the best written characters in recent shows, and the best comfort character/fictional crush I've had in a long fucking time 🙏🏻❤️ (and of course, the entire show and the rest of the characters deserve their due credit, but ya know lol)
remember he said he would have taken his collar off (this means giving up the priesthood, not no longer believing in god) and followed her anywhere, in this instance you can see it as him choosing to follow her into the afterlife.
@@sparklecloverI also think it's on some level understanding that after everything he did, and caused to happen, that he didn't really deserve to wear it.
Thank you for this video. Strangely, this show and him gave me back my Faith
Same..! I was reminded actually of all the good sides of the times when I went to church.... It restored my faith and I want to go back again.. It

Blasphemy.
He was also really hot
I wish I could watch this show for the first time again so badly
This was the most mesmerizing show I have ever seen. Poetic horror...
best character flanagan has written.
Hamish Linklater is a revelation! What a brilliant actor
It's such a great spin on vampires. I really liked the inversion of how this type of plot usually goes. I really liked Father Pruitt.
Respect for actually using the score in this edit instead of a fucking pop song.
Hamish did such an amazing performance in this role, truly one of my favorite shows ever.
This is the apex of what a TV series can bring. Never before has piece of media made me think like this one did

One of the rare shows that you'll never ever ever forget and will now be a Halloween season staple.
Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.
I keep thinking about this show
I liked the character even more when the ending revealed he was actually secretly in love and in a relationship with her..
"in the absence of light, of hope, we sing!"
I watch this a lot. Thank u for editing it

@@whoisspinox I've like more than just the video 😏
🤨
I’m confused about one thing. Who poisoned him when he died and then transformed into a vampire? Did he do it purposefully?
I don't remember exactly but wasn't it the Vampire himself?
Bev Keane
The last scene where he threw his collar I wonder what’s the abstract? Did he stop believing in God?
i don't think so, he was choosing to live his final moments not as a priest but as a man, together with the love of his life and their daughter.
