My wife and I have lived in our doublewide manufactured home for about a year and a half. Bought it new from Clayton. It’s got full Sheetrock throughout, even in the laundry room and bathrooms. It’s nice and definitely cost a pretty penny for what it is, about $150K for setup, block foundation and all. But there are a few areas you can see they cut corners, especially in the kitchen. I’m gonna have to seal the seems along the countertop where it joins the wall, especially behind our sink. It’s already starting to look like it will give us issues soon. Hopefully I haven’t waited too long to fix it. Things like that shouldn’t be an issue for what they cost. The Sheetrock has held up well though. We had some cracks at first while the house settled, but they came out and fixed them while our home was under warranty. Haven’t had any new issues since. Someone else here mentioned how they’re all white throughout now, and that’s exactly how ours is. Even though we’re pretty clean people, these walls get dirty easy. We’ll be painting some of them a different color soon. Paint is also chipping off some of our cabinets.

@ ours was half the cost of what it would have been to build a barndominium of the same size. And as quick as developments are going up in my area of Tennessee, I’d say the detail to craftsmanship wouldn’t have been any better. Our home is solid. 2x6 exterior walls. Definitely no regrets. It will do us for 5-10 years until we’re ready to buy or build our dream house.

Grew up my whole life in mobile homes . In mid 40' s husband and I purchased an older stick built home. Biggest thing I've learned....fixing and upgrading is easier in mobile.
Currently needing foundation repair on 1 corner. ...would be pretty simple in mobile. ..stick built - looking at $18,000.

I've always wanted a family compound with sister in laws and bro's and cousins all around, so I'd not have to worry about my place when I travel. I'd also have built in cat sitters! I want a huge greens garden ( I can't get enough turnips, collards 'n mustards! ) a catfish pond and big swings to get old and sit around and watch the world go by. I'd put 5 big 'n pretty mobile homes and let my relatives live there free as long as they wanted to. I cannot wait until Darlington Homes makes y'all affiliates! LOL. Why are these vids so relaxing? Bless.

Really nice mobile home. ❤ it. Ive been trying to convince my husband that this is gonna be the way to go for or next home. Use to see vanities like that in older homes for women to put on make up. Or could be used for clothes basket i guess.

I lived in two Trailers ... but I was under 5 for both. I find this series of videos fascinating. Knowing what yall know about these things and how they have changed over the years .. First trailer was in North Dakota 1972/3 Parents tell stories of snow up to the windows and frost on the walls. Second one was 1974/5 on an island called Kwajalein in the middle of the Pacific Ocean . Couldn't have been that comfortable by todays standards I would think :) Thanks for letting me ramble... you didn't have to do that ... not that you really had a choice :) (Dad worked for Raytheon.. worked on some funky stuff in funky places when I was young LOL )

Well, guys, you've shown us so many mobile homes that were rode hard and put up wet that today's video is a welcome change to dogs occupying the master bedroom. 😎 And as you just stated, you lived in mobile homes when you were young, and I've lived in older mobile homes when you weren't so young, but I guess the point I'm trying to get to is that mobile homes have come a long, long way. At $160K, with another (20K?) for set up, hell, it's hard to buy a stick built home these days for less than 250K. Places I've noticed big improvements over the models of yesteryear: windows-have you or your spouses ever tried to clean those double windows? Please. Ceilings. Much better. Doorstops on the walls. You know old MH didn't have that. A move to drywall. And between the 'pantry' and the laundry room, I was totally impressed with the storage. Master closet too, but not a fan of it being in the bathroom. Everything has gotten more expensive, but the mobile home still gives a good housing option to lower income families. The whole thing still boils down to whether they take care of it or not.

I used to know all the tricks of Fleetwood...especially in the RVs... The number one question was how can you fit all this in a 40 foot RV??? The answer is we can't... We make up for that by adding four feet to all the RVs... They might have added a foot to the mobile homes...

  • @1020mj

really like this double. my only problem is it has to much white in it. my double has oak cabinets in bathrooms, kitchen, utility room and oak molding thru out. I know most newer homes have white but sorry white gets to dirty and a person would have a lot of extra cleaning to do to keep it looking nice. Don' t like black appliance's but that could be changed out. I owned a fleetwood single wide MH once. It was built rather well. It was a 85 model and it had the sheetrock walls with the strips to hide the seams. Thanks for the tour. would like to upgrade to a newer home but still not finding what I want.

The new ones are nice, but the used ones have a story behind them. We may never know the story and sometimes it's a bad one but it adds entertainment value at least! My 'new' (used) modular surely has a story behind it, mostly about how people haven't got a clue when it comes to renovations. *LOL* I'll be fixing this place for years to come I'm sure.
