What a great video. I'm a 65yo serious DIYer... I have just spent 4 weeks digging 16m of 600x500 footing and built a 1.5m high wall, my back is raw, my right wrist is on fire, my neck and shoulders are throbbing and I have to soak in Voltarol every night. You video really cheered me up. It's not just me!!!!
Not just you mate pleanty of us out there unfortunately.
Hope the job went well now you deserve a break 🤣👍👌🧱🧱
Absolutely true, I'm being tortured at the minute , everything you say true ,disks gone ,hands done ,knees gone etc and now going through the medical route, consultant warned me about trying to carry on doing it will only make you. Worse , wise to think about that advice 👍
@juliaparker2683 it's difficult hope you'll be ok good luck 👍
63 now supposedly retired same as you arthritis everywhere told to change my job at 35 but what else could I do still doing dry stone walling to pay for my holidays just takes me an hour to get out of bed and another hour to get going but still loving life and would not change a thing
I feel for you Andrew but needs must a mate .Just keep going its all we can do.
Good luck mate 👍
I know the feeling Justin I’m 45 and the joints are aching now! I also know people that are sat at a desk all day with really bad backs
If i sat at a desk all day my back would be worse .Thats hard aswell sitting in the same spot all day .aches get you down but keep at it good luck
Justin 👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping did you go to the gym whilst you were bricklaying? I think training the back muscles themselves might have saved your back
@coachingconfidant2785
Yout right there i used to go to the gym a lot but four kids stopped it but your right bricklaying is hard so your body should be up for the task the gym helps that definitely 👍
Walking about in wet clothes when hosing down too not good
@@richardlanger4067 spot on 👍
Great video . I would say kettlebell workout (especially kettlebell swings) should be done if in physical work / trades. Kettlebells can be picked up for not alot of money and the swing helps keep legs , lower back in good shape. Also anyone needing inspiration in terms of being able to do physical work and stay strong should look at Britains strongman and plasterer Mark Felix . Well into 50s , still competing and on the tools!
@mrt4145
Thanks for the tips I think your right a work out for the trades should be design it would help loads of people struggling in all trades .top tip thanks and spot on 👍👌
With you all the way Justin, nothing gets easier as you get older. Apart from falling down, thats a lot easier. Thanks for the video. regards G.
You take care Gareth mate 👍
Hit the nail on the head Justin 🔨
Hi. I know exactly what you mean. I've been a Landscape Gardener for over 30 years. I'm 53 now and when I get home my back when trying to get up out the chair is so dame painful. I have slight slipped disk to. I get tierd quickly to. That's so annoying. I agree 100% that these type of physical trades does in later life, affect you. Great video's. Awesome bricklaying. 👍. Take care.
Hi Peter
I think its difficult especially those who dont admit to it and dont manage thier work load .
Good luck peter mate i feel for you 👍
Great video I myself found giving up the grog has worked a lot also listing to my body. I tried changing jobs but missed it to much
Yea you do miss it dont you Darren institutionalised mate .

Spot on good information for the new generation you will take over the game
No one advised me Danny so if it helps 👍👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping that's the one mate if it helps one person then it helped someone
@dannyhogi4953 very true Danny
Spot on Justin 👍👍 On the subject of trying to position yourself to lay in tight footings, my old boss used to say he wanted to find a one legged bricky to do all the footings work 😂😂
😂😂 i no that feeling 😂😂👍
Ahh Justin, feel your pain buddy, I'm 51 now, groundwork all my days, both knees are gone, awaiting a left knee replacement now, it's all I can do to get my feet on the floor in the morning. Cold days are the worst
Feels like my work days are over currently. 😮
Its a killer mate good luck with the knee i here it all the time .Groundwork is a hard game ive a lot of respect for Groundworkers.
Justin 👍
dude i feel ya, i was a chef for 10 years until 27......my knees are fucked, and left shoulder is fucked, and sounds like a cement mixer into my neck (used to use my left hand to do pan work, and also I'm left-handed so use knife left-handed) ... i changed career into landscaping and even more aches and pains at the ripe old age of 37 lol but the thing is, i my self love the physical work and the outside work too. keep up the videos mate. always good to listen too,
Everyone is different bodies take a beating. Chef is grueling like this job is .
I hate to here your pain i wish you well and work smart to what your body can cope with mate dont work to hard 👍💯
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping you too mate! 👍

Thankyou 👌
You should go round schools promoting brick laying, you certainly sold it to me 😂 thank f*** I'm 65 and retired 😂😂😂 👍
You no what Mark id absolutely love to do that mate always had a good connection with the youngsters 👍💯🧱🧱
Thought about becoming a gigolo, theres a niche for the silver fox? Time to use your brain and experience now mate. Im a 54 year old brickie but only on site 50% of the time. Trusting my son with customers. They love him. He prices way higher than i do too. Wasn't easy to let go but Ive worked hard to play golf 3 times a week while the boys keep me in golf balls. Keep the vids coming.
Im ugly with no brain so im screwed.
Good idea aboug the son dont stuff though
Fair play to anyone that makes it a bricky setting out it’s tough
Definitely a tough job Richard 💪 😅
I’m 22 done pointing self employed for nearly 4 years now been using knee pads and that but not looking forward to my 30-40s probably gonna change career path to a HGV driver or something
Eat well exercise and be sensible Rich but still it repetition that catches up with us all 👍
Honked at you a few weeks back on the m4 near Bridgend. Lol.
Did you i cant remember did honk you back 👍👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping nah, never even looked round 🤣 😂

In all honesty i loved it when i was a young man but i hate it with a passion now.
I still loved it heart says yes body says no now though 🤣👍 good luck to you mate
Hi justine
It's great when your young at my age my body tells me head to not do stuff now ! It's a great trade but it does smash your body!!! Youngsters coming through generally don't want it! You findcem they stick it for 3:42 18 months , the second winter comes and they must think fook it I'm off !!! ❤ you've been through the wars mate ! You forgotten mention what the weather dies to your body as well pal ! Focus on what you can do pal , organise ,set out , plan , price. Customer liason. Ordering , same job but different priorities, you xan fobit pal, ❤❤ keep safe and well and dry pal 👍
Always wise words from you John mate .
I no what you've been through and to be back at it is amazing. I also no you've had to adjust your work and what you can do thats frustrating.
I admire you mate one determined individual.
Good luck john 👍 👏 💪
Mate my hat goes off too you !! Your still at it , getting back up from the knick downs you have had mate , you are one tough individual mate determined and a proper quality tradesmen , a dying breed pal , will the youngsters live up to your ethics , I'm sure your son will be with you mate , ❤❤❤ not so sure about the rest though , keep dry my friend !
@johnward182

I twisted my knee last week pouring concrete. I've still to lay 30 flags & I can't walk on it. Just as the weather dries up too. Onwards & upwards!
Always something tony a mate .Hope you recover quick and get back to it .
Good luck Tony hope your ok pal 👍 👌
Mate I know exactly what you’re saying I’m 66 now and really paying for it I’m on morphine for the pain, but we we’re young and naive,if someone said when we started how much pain we would would be in would we of chosen the career we chose ? Probably, great videos,keep posting them
Sorry to here that Salvadore i definitely think more needs to be done at apprentice level to educate people on ways to work smart and take care of the body .I wish you good health and sorry to here of your pain.
Justin
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping problem I’ve noticed also kids of today don’t want to do our line of work my 3 kids all went to university,same as my brothers and sister total 12 kids so the building industry will suffer massively in 10 years time in my opinion,your lucky with your boys,same problem with labourers up here in Surrey,take care
@@salvatorediprima943
Spot on i agree and to add to that the college causes are so watered down now a lot of lads finish the course and leave the trade because the courses aint teaching em enough to go on site and do the job.
Think we could have a good chat over a pint me and you or at least a good moan 🤣🤣🤣 take care mate great comments 👍
I know all about the doctors telling you to change jobs 🤬 I’m lucky I’m only 25 Justin and learning a lot now before it’s too late but my back has already started giving me grief and has been since around 21 years old. I go for a sports massage every 6-8 weeks on my lower back, glutes, hamstrings. I’ve played rugby since the age of 6 too so that of course doesn’t help. This will be my first season of not playing because work is too important.
All that being said, we’d never change it because we love the job 👍
The idea of a sports message sounds good dylan .You have to be very careful with that back now as you get older it gets worse .
Look after yourself. Mate .
I think city will come good early days yet 👍💯
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping I hope so Just, otherwise we’re in for a long season 😂
@d-jones i no defo got some better players now by name but the have to show it leeds i thought we were way better qpr we were off the pace big time .lets see but they got to step things up ccfc 💕
Oi! Stop stalking me, Justin.....You've just described me 100%. I'm a couple of years older than you but you would literally think it was me you were talking about with all the ailments, creaks and groans.......but like you I wouldn't change it for anything! Hope you are all doing well, bud.👍
Just keep going and manage it all correctly and im sure you will be ok .
I wish you good luck 👍
As a young lad just about to get qualified have to say I’m in Bits from laboring and bricklaying. Doing two men’s jobs at the same speed to get somewhere with the tradesman jobs is toucher. Getting my papers and quitting it’s not worth it. Dunno about the older generation but it’s a lonely life these days. Also I haven’t been fortunate enuf to meet actual brickys iv met low self esteem gowls. I meet the kind of bricklayer who tell me I’m going to the gym with the wasters being called a waster for trying to better myself rather then being with the low life’s who haven’t studied there craft or some math formulas
You keep at in mate dont ever let anyone bring you down .rise above it get your papers .
Then move on and run your own gang the way you want to.
Some arse holes out there but some really good pationate lads out there .
You'll find your way just stick it out until then mate
Good luck to you i can tell you my apprenticeship in the 80s was help now i run my own business so keep going 👍💯💯🧱
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping cheers for your words of encouragement.laying Bricks can be relaxing it’s not the worst gig at all. Only decent humans iv seen as bricklayers are on RUclips ha. All the best
Decent people are out there trust me
Your doing well if you have that form of arthritis I do the same work as you with this form of arthritis and it’s a killer I have to inject myself every two weeks and take many other medication
The things we have to do to work .sarah i wish you good luck and thanks for sharing on here.
I'm on Biological injections for Psioratic Arthritis but they have stopped working. Rheumatologist is changing the medication to a JAK Inhibitor let's hope that helps.I was diagnosed about five years ago and they told me I had had it for at least 30 years, I thought waking up every morning feeling like shit was normal,apparently it isnt😂.Psioratic Arthritis is nothing to with work it's an Autoimmune disease anyone can get it and it's horrible.Another problem ifound with biologics is that I have no tolerance to heat anymore.👍
@bricklayersworldwithandy6277
Andy i new you were struggling with arthritis.
I was diagnosed with reactive arthritis my wife tells me after an operation not psa .They said it was something you get after surgery sometimes. Then after about 6 months and back to work i was told your ok now carry on as normal. I Dont really no what normal is anymore mate to be honest .
Do i still have it i dont trust them .i do take anti inflammation and pain meds so i dont no Andy dont no much about to be fair i just get on with it .
Your a tough guy so fair play to you its not easy bricklaying especially as we age .
Good luck mate hope your ok 👍 👌 💯
Does yours move around your body at different times mine does I have been on Humir injections for the last 12 years which help but it still affects me
@sarahwilliams496
Sarah my wife tells me it was reactive arthritis i thought it was psoriatic arthritis so i may be wrong.i do get pain which sometimes is more painful at various times sometimes ive felt not bad but it doesn't last .
I have to keep moving or its worse .
I do take meds for inflammation and pain but i just keep going .so now im not sure which one it is lucy is usually right.
I wish you well my wife has chronic pain so i no what people go through.
Hope your ok and god bless 👍
Much prefer cold to boiling hot myself
Do you no way 😂👍
@@brickrightbuildinglandscaping when you're cold you can do something about it, when it's hot and stripped and still boiling hot you're naffed lol

Brick laying sounds like self inflicted torture
😂😂😂 yes i suppose it is .You love something thats slowly crippling you
Yep sat here and my hip is raging . Could have had it done toady but they only asked me 2 days ago 😳, it was a cancellation.
Same as you Justin school to YTS but as as I’m older than you I was on £26.25.
