  • Building my first 1:12 scale dollhouse - the Beachside Bungalow kit by Real Good Toys. In this episode, I dry fit the pieces using painter's tape to be sure all the parts actually fit together and nothing is missing before permanently securing them in place with glue. Read the assembly instructions carefully before doing anything, and take notes while dry fitting which pieces you can prime and paint beforehand. It will be easier to prime, sand, and paint on a flat surface.
Come along on my misguided, but fun journey into the world of dollhouses and miniatures - this could be a long series - depending on how my progress goes...

😂👍 I'm 72. My sister bought me that dollhouse because I love miniatures. I'm still gathering supplies. Your videos are so entertaining. You make me laugh. I know I'll build this dollhouse through trial and error. 😂

This is neat to watch. I’m currently waiting on my first house from RGTs.
I have a whole town of houses. At the moment I have a Post Office, Vet Office, General Store, a barn, and two houses.
I also have a gas station and a giant stable (4ft x 3ft) in the works!

That sounds really neat! Do you still have your town? You should film it!

I am 70 and I am into dollhouses. I was into it 40 years ago and got away from it. Did a little in my 60s and now that I am retired I am trying to get back into it. It is good you got a quality dollhouse.,(Real Good Toys)

Janet, I am glad I just read that from you because my mother just turned 70 and I got her this house for her birthday. She also used to do the little dollhouse stuff with me when i was little (48 now and empty nesting as well). She doesn’t know yet that i got this for her. She’s never done this size one before though but she’s very artistic and her husband works on clocks so they will have a lot of small tools. I am hoping that the construction itself isn’t overwhelming for her. She’s an attorney and still practices law some but is a bit ADD too, lol. I hope this will be a fun past time for her and my stepdad and i am about to start renovating mine from my childhood so we can all share a hobby.

Loved dolls, doll houses, and paper dolls when I was younger. As far as I'm concerned, you're never to old to enjoy doing what you love... Looking forward to seeing each phase of you putting together the Beachside Bungalow!

Thank you for the info. I got one for Mother's Day. The Vermont Farmhouse. It'll probably take forever to built, but I love doll houses & I'm willing to give it a shot. I'll be watching the rest of your doll house videos. Thanks for the inspiration.

I am so excited to follow this project! :D I made a DIY dollhouse as a kid but from like cardboard, newspaper and wallpaper glue. Then I painted it with hobby paint and really horrid wallpaper that was out of style already in 1995 (got an old sample book). A while later I got a beautiful wooden doll house that I still have at my parents. When I moved back to Sweden at age 29 I stayed with them and while looking for work I decided to finally paint the dollhouse exteriors. I still have all the rooms to style - but I am imagining it being a project I can do with my future kids. :p

You are never too old in other words! I think there is something very appealing with miniature things. Also there are so many fun things available today that we didn't have when we were kids. 3D printing and LED smart bulbs for example!

This is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! This is exactly the video I was looking for. I want to build my own dollhouse, too, but I just didn't know how or where to get started -- all I knew was that I wanted to start with the bungalow. So you can say that your video and me are a match made in heaven. :) I'm really looking forward to the follow-up videos!

If you ever want to get rid of your dollhouse and build a different one, donate this one to a shelter for abused women and children or to Toys for Tots or some other Children's Charity that collects children's toys for Christmas. I am on my 4th such dollhouse for our local charity in our community. Our churches verify the families' needs and whether the children are of appropriate age and maturity. It is a win win. I get to indulge in a hobby that I love and am able to assist in my community at the same time.
